  • "We loved our lunch at Il Fornaio this past Sunday. I have enjoyed dining at Il Fornaio since I first found it in Berkeley, many many years ago. We often go to this location and enjoy it every time. Not only do they have wonderful bread, pasta, and pizza, the salads are delicious. I have never felt rushed there. The staff is warm and friendly, and they make you feel like you are having a beautiful, leisurely lunch with your Italian family."

Whenever my husband has business lunches, he picks this restaurant whenever possible. There is so much available for the private parties or a casual lunch or dinner."

  • "We have enjoyed Il Fornaio many times in the past, but had a particularly disappointing experience last Saturday night. We were seated near the kitchen, even though many tables were empty. Some of the dishes were quite tasty (e.g., the lentil soup), but something we ate from the Sicilian menu was much too garlicky. My husband, who usually does not notice garlic, complained about lingering garlic taste. Service was slow and indifferent. We waited a very long time to place our orders and even longer to receive the bill."

  • "This was a meal to forget before you even finished. The bread in the basket was lukewarm and rubbery. The fish linguini was so tasteless I had to add some olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper trying to spice it up a little bit. My wife's bronzino was so dry that I doubt it has ever been in the water. They gave us a complimentary tiramisu wich was a nice touch but unfortunately that too was dry and tasteless. A father's day to forget."

  • "great food, prompt, friendly service. cant wait to go back. only one problem. some server keep speeding up & down the isles with a big cart full of customers dinners. with that giant cart, there is only about 12 inched between your table and the cart. And, let me tell you, this guy is RUNNING!!! up and down the isles with this thing. don't stick your foot out from under your table or will be run over!!!...and if you want to get up out of your seat you better sent up a signal!!!!because you WILL BE MOWED DOWN!!! someone needs to address this problem. while we sat at our table, he passed us at least 4 times at a full run OH! the desert cart, which is smaller and much more professionaly handled otherwise, everything was GREAT!!!!"

  • "We were a group of six women with a few requests, and Chris was one of the best servers we've had at Il Fornaio. We loved the quiet and less crowded outdoor patio. The food was very good to celebrate Sicily. We all walked away with a beautiful hand-painted ceramic dish with a Sicilian scene. The artisan cocktail was also delish and we love the breadsticks in the bar."

  • "Okay, I haven't eaten at EVERY Il Fornaio, but this one stands out among a group of restaurants that is consistently high quality. It is the only restaurant I frequent on my 2-3 business trips to Orange County each year. This month features Sicilian cuisine (they feature different regions of Italy on a rotating basis) and it was wonderful. I had the calamari alla griglia con salmoriglo, expecting the usual not-on-your-diet fried rings and was delighted to be served whole *steaks* very lightly breaded, grilled and served on a hot plate. Best ever. My entree was the pasta chi purpetti, ribbon pasta with small veal meatballs and a double side of spinaci alla griglia (passed on the potatoes, gorged on the bread). All a delight!"

  • "I love the regional menus each month. The region of Sicily never disappoints. In lieu of the complete tasting menu, I opted just to have a bowl of Spaghetti Mazara with a nice glass of Purato Rosato 2012. Big tender mussels and sweet lobster..... A perfect meal for a warm summer evening. The Artisan Cocktail was a special treat, too. Such a great way to start off the evening. I look forward to the food and fun every month at Il Fornaio. "

  • "The first course came barely room temperature (it was supposed to be hot). The waitress took it back to the kitchen and when she brought it back again it was burnt on top (black). The 3rd time it came back it was acceptable....We will never go to Il Fornaio again! "

  • "A bit of a disappointment, not up to the standards of service I've experienced at their Pasadena and Sacramento locations. It was a noisy room and service was very slow. When our food was served, one of our party had cold food, and had to be sent back. Otherwise, the food was tasty and in adequate portions. I might try it again, if I was in the area but it was nothing special."

Daughter had pasta, hubby a chicken/pasta and I had a veggie pasta. We all loved our meals. They were perfectly cooked, seasoned and well presented. We will return."

  • "I really love the Il Fornaio in San Francisco. This one is a bit more corporate (the locale, of course), but I like it, too. Very Prego/open kitchen/Northern Italian 90s feel. The food and service is good--sometimes the waiters are a bit pushy with the dessert cart presentation. Other than that, good pasta (I love pasts) and a decent selection of Italian wines--try a Barolo or Valpolicella!"

  • "celebrating a special occasion with a party of 6. the restaurant was packed when we got there with big parties. It was a chilly night, and they walked us outside to a cold patio with two small round tables, (suitable maybe for 4) and wanted us to sit there! We waited for them to scurry around to find where to put us! We ended up sitting at a poor table on the chilly patio with a heater dividing us! it was just a super busy night and way too breezy and cold, inside and outside of this restaurant! Food mediocre. "

  • "I am part od a group of five guys, (friends and business associates), that have been going to dinner here about once a month for about (6) years. We have seen several changes in management during that time, as well as some waiter changes. The staff service is consistant in that they are very mindful of your table and often check to see if anything is needed. Several of the staff often recognize us when we are seated and come by to say hello even when we are not at their station... nice touch to make us feel welcomed. Another nice touch is when we are "comped" for corkage. We rotate whose turn it is and always bring a couple of bottles of our own wine. If you have't tried Il Fornaio your are cheating yourself out of a very nice evening."

  • "I have been here before and it was outstanding. Not sure what was up but it wasn't very good and service was lousy! We were a party of 6. Our waiter came by to get our drink orders. A little while later, he came back again and asked us for our drink orders!! Very ODD!! One person in our party had a soda. The waiter came by at one point to ask if she would like another, she said yes, he took her glass and she NEVER received another soda again! Food was very fair this time. Nothing so good that I would recommend coming back! Hopefully this was a fluky night but on a Saturday night, it shouldn't be this way!!"
