Il Fornaio - Corte MaderaMenu changes are terrific....loveMenu changes are terrific....love the added variety along with the popular mainstays. Restaurant is always fun and upbeat! We love going their with a group of friends and family, but lately the food coming out of the kitchen is marginal. The execution of the dishes sometimes questionable!!! Need to pay more attention to the pastas and pizzas....been mushy and soggy lately. The ambience of the Corte Madera version is very pleasant (much better than the Palo Alto version where we last ate at an Il Fornaio). The minestrone was very good and my short ribs were excellent. My wife had a warm version of a capricio salad, and enjoyed it. The house wine was pleasant (my wife had the pinot grigio and I tried the chianti) and only slightly overpriced. One of our guests had food allergies (celiac), which were accommodated for beautifully. The waiter was nice, and attentive. I did however see a change in his attitude when he noticed that the table was not drinking alcohol. The food was very good and the service was even better. The restaurant has a very extensive wine list. The kitchen is open style so you can watch the cooks in action...quite impressive. We have both been there many times and know what we like but always enjoy the food and the relaxed atmosphere. We both started with the minestrone which I love because it is a broth soup with a lot of fresh vegetables. My friend had the Caprese salad as her second course and loved it and I had the butternut squash raviolis which are delicious. We relaxed over dinner and the service was excellent. The grilled salmon was superb. I changed the potatoes to spinach as I am low carb gal. Fabulously seasoned spinach and the veggies were amazing. It has a lovely ambiance. I was surprised at how delicous the food was. The spinach ravioli was as good as I have had in Italy. All the other pastas were completely consumed - allo the plates were empty! It is a great place for lunch or dinner and the ambiance is very nice. They have an outdoor patio that is nice but they had the doors open on Tuesday night and it was cold in the restaurant near the doors. We had the chopped salad which was OK not as good as in the past. The entree was really wonderful though - it was a sampling of three pastas that were all wonderful. It consisted of the vodka sauce penne and the two raviolis. I loved all of them and would recommend this entree to anyone.
