This Monday I had a reservation for lunch, but got caught on GG Bridge Traffic...... Il Fornaio was great about communicating my situation to my lunch guest, and then accomodating us nicely, given my late arrival...

The food was incredible as usual, but after waiting about 20 minutes, our food was served and both orders was totally wrong. They had to start our order over. We were not thrilled having to wait again. We love the restaurant and will continue to go.

  • Table service was attentive
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 3/27/2008
Table service was attentive and pleasant and the bread is as good as ever. The kitchen disappointed with delays and very inconsistent food. Among the starters only the beet salad was well received at our table. In contrast the tomato soup lacked character, and the mixed seafood grill appetizer featured prawns that were tired and overcooked. A “risotto sample” was served, perhaps to mitigate a delay in service, and it was surprisingly chalky and poorly executed. Among the mains the squash ravioli and the fillet of beef were excellent. The fillet of sole was uninteresting and the polenta on the plate was cold. The beans servered with the beef were also cold and so hard and under-done as to be inedible. For dessert the bread pudding was burnt.

Met an old friend for a casual lunch. Location was convenient with lots of parking. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Antipasti selection was good and the assortment was delicious. Calamari batter good and greaseless, but squid was a bit rubbery. Pastas good and seemed like homemade. Bit too much sauce. Otherwise, pleasant dining experience and would return.

I say special occasion because I found it to be expensive. 2 appetizers, 1 entree and 1 dessert...we each had 2 glasses of wine and that was the killer...with tip $102. I think their wine/champagne by the glass is too expensive...so I only go on special occassions.

Normally Il Fornaio in Corte Madera is worth a visit but clearly not when I went. The food was just okay, with one piece of fish clearly no fresh and a wait staff that was painfully robotic. I am not sure I will give them another try...the jury is out.

  • Il Fornaio has nights when
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004
    Dined on 3/15/2008
Il Fornaio has nights when they add cuisines for specific Italian regions to their menu. The regional menu changes each month. If you participate in their Passport program, you also get a charming free gift that changes each month. At the end of each 6 month period, turn in your passport and you enter a drawing for a trip to Italy. The regional specialties comprise a full menu by themselves and are almost always very good or memorable. The food at the Corte Madera restaurant gets better and better over time. Seating is comfortable, the place has a nice look for bringing friends and colleagues. The staff is very accommodating to such needs as restricted diets or quiet seating. Parking is free and convenient at this location.

  • I have dine at Il Fornaio
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/15/2008
I have dine at Il Fornaio several times before, this time the service was terrible. I had to ask for cheese and a spoon for the pasta dish. The pasta was under cook for even dente lovers; the sea food on the pasta did not taste freash except for the scollops. The waiter was not attentive. I was disapointed this time.

love it. I am a regular at this place and love everthing about it from the poeple to the food. Even the other customers always seem to be great! You are treated with warmth if you are known or a first timer and whether you are there for dinner or just coffee. The homemade bar olives are dangerously addictive. Penny Macphail

Great management team, great service. Food reliably good. Sophisticated, upbeat atmosphere, conducive for parties and groups, as well as couples. Very nice enclosed patio seating with great fireplace. I haven't been there for brunch, although I am there often for lunch and dinner and always have a good time/good meal/good wine/good cocktails.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012VIP
    Dined on 3/9/2008
We usually find the food of high quality and enjoy our experience very much, which is why we go back often. This last time, the food was not at the same high standard on two of the four dishes - specifically, the roast chicken was dry and the angel hair pasta with tomato was flat, two of our favorite dishes. It was late and we were too hungry and tired to send anything back and have to wait longer for our meal, so we didn't say anything to our waiter. But, we realize restaurants have off nights.

We had a fantastic dinner at Il Fornaio. From appetizer to dessert, it was just perfect! The hostess was friendly, the waiter was fantastic! We had a great table where there was lots of ambiance and the restaurant was very quiet considering the amount of people there. They do it right! We will definitely return!

This place is always busy probably because the food is consistent and flavorful. Nothing to write home about, but for Marin, about as good as you can get. The roasted duck and the spit roasted chicken are their best dishes.
