Il Fornaio - CoronadoGreat Great Great Place! WeGreat Great Great Place! We dined at a different location in Northern California and first time at the Coronado location. Jerry our server was very accommodating as well as everyone else. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and they made everything perfect.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial occasionThere are only hits and no misses at this restaurant. We have been dining here for years for all occasions. When my daughter got married we celebrated there. Anniversaries, birthdays and whenever we want to make an impression on out-of-town guests, we high tail it to II FORNAIO. It's truly a great dining experience with fabulous views, food, and service.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeI've been here three times and loved the food and service every time, and the large bay-facing windows give a view of the San Diego skyline to almost every table.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe view alone...Wow, I could have spent the ENTIRE afternoon there!!! The view of the San Diego skyline across the water, sail boats passing by, great food, amazing service (THANK YOU MARIO!!!), wine, another martini please... Up, two olives, and very cold... Ahhh, just another Coronado Sunday...6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGladys and a Great WineOur server, Gladys, was helpful, efficient, had a sense of humor, and recommended a great wine that was not astronomically priced. Food was great, as usual.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch in CoronadoIl Fornaio is a wonderful place to have lunch, dinner, or whatever. To start with, the view is phenomenal; there is LOTS of free parking just across from the restaurant, and is easy to find. The menu offers many interesting items, and I chose the special (Salmon with Capers), which was nicely prepared. Our dessert was a delicious, light Sabayone, stuffed with fresh fruits, and as it was my friend's birthday, the restaurant presented her with a tasty Chocolate Tiramisu. I don't think their selection of wines by the glass is very good; you might ask to taste before pouring. However, this is a very nice restaurant to enjoy.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Italian FoodLocated on Coronado just over the bridge from the mainland (downtown San Diego) this restaurant features a spectacular view of downtown San Diego and the harbor area, especially at sunset. After dining you can walk along the shore and enjoy the views, breezes, and sunsets. We were in town for a special event (college graduation) and Il Fornaio (the baker) was highly recommended. Pretty easy to find and get to. We were seated at a great location near the window with views. The bread is really one of the high points. The pasta dishes, pizzas, salads and soups also excellent. Service was quick and thorough. Prices higher than most chain Italian restaurants - more of a special occasion place. Salads & soups not included with entrees.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Place for Sunday BrunchAs a resident, I never found the food or service better. Keep up the good work!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic !!Our special occasion was complimented perfectly by the great food, excellent service , and amazing atmostphere of this marvelous restaurant. On my list of favorites, can feel confident returning anytime !5/25/2013 12:00:00 AM25th Birthday CelebrationMy daughter chose your restaurant as the place she wanted to celebrate her 25th birthday. She heard great reviews from friends and we were excited as a family to enjoy a new restaurant. From beginning to end it was one of the best dinners we have enjoyed together as a family. The view is spectacular, the service was fantastic and the food was so delicious. Our waitress was friendly and enjoyable to talk with. The servers who provided water and the extras were very friendly and helpful.
We actually ran into some family members walking on the boardwalk and some old friends in the restaurant.
Overall this was a great experience and we will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful family evening!!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGood FoodFood is excellent and service was outstanding. We were seated in a little private room which was both a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because we had privacy and our two kuds could move around, but we felt like in a separate restaurant and didn't enjoy the ambience and beauty of the restaurant.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic Italian!Il Farnaio features different regions of Italy every quarterly. All of the food is authentic and made on site. I especially love their homemade breads and imported Italian products. The waiters are always very knowledgeable of the menu and offer suggestions. The dinner menu is a bit on the pricey side, however their happy hour and lunch hours are reasonable. The brunch menu is to die for! I recommend the Omelette Con Salmone e Caprino, Bruscetta Al Salmone, and fresh fruits. For dinner I regularly have the anti pasti and finish it off with a cappuccino and Rosina al Cioccolato.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTraditional ItalianGreat water views, great traditional Italian menu..5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dinner!Great restaurant! Fantastic views of the San Diego skyline & harbour...would definitely go back and recommend to anyone interested in a special night to celebrate!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMRolling in ravioliWe had two outstanding ravioli dishes, the Italian names escape me but one was stuffed with butternut squash, the other italian sausage. We had the full order, so our lunch the next day was outstanding as well.
Excellent, attentive service, with a very nice visit from the manager, and gifts of tiramisu and orechette. We had a view of the harbor and skyline, sailboats and jetskis. Lovely.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing View with good foodCame here for Mother's Day and pretty happy with the place. Amazing view of San Diego, good service and great food. The only downside was that when they brought us the pasta we had to fetch down the cheese guy so we can have some parmessan cheese and when he came over he just seemed to be all over the place, but beyond that the experience was nice and I truly recommend this place for those that want to have a nice lunch or dinner with great view.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIl Fornaio is Not To Be Missed!!While we are from San Antonio, we never miss the chance while in San Diego to go to Il Fornaio and bring along a friend or 2 or 3+++. The food is always delicious. The only problem is there are so many choices. The waitstaff is excellent and someone is always at the ready to assist you whether it be the person who seats you, your waiter or the person bringing your food. We had a vegan in our group who does not eat dairy and they happily accommodated his request on one dish to prepare it without cheese. He loved it and the butternut squash ravioli and seafood pasta dish were raved about by all who partook.. Our only complaint is that there is no Il Fornaio in San Antonio!!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat all around experienceThe food was great, the service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMKiller view and great food tooAll too often restaurants in any city that have a spectacular view can easily be mediocre when it comes to the food and service. However, il Fornaio doesn't take anything for granted and serves up service and good on par with their amazing views of the bay and San Diego skyline just beyond its generous windows.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Impressive PlaceThe location is gorgeous on the bay looking at the city. The menu is full of detailed, artful surprises. Excellent wait staff. Some concerns: The wine list was extensive but seemed very pricey with NO "starter" priced selections. No dress code for diners means you and your sharply dressed date will dine next to hip-hop kid in sweats and a flashy baseball cap. Seems a little disappointing, but keeping your eyes on your plate or out the huge windows puts it all in perspective.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was amazingly servedFood was amazingly served very fast! Was really impressed! Great job! From serving the appetizers to the main menu, our server was excellent, even the bus boy was very efficient and quick to clear up used dishes..was here last year May 2012, then I already had an excellent service...had to come back as I know I wouldn't be disappointed to celebrate another, memorable occasion with my loved ones and special friends...and definitely, the food tasted so delectable..I definitely would recommend this place to others!!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was absolutelyThe service was absolutely incredible! We were celebrating a couple of birthdays, and they didn't care how long we stayed. VERY attentive. The food was great, too.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Notch!I had been planning this dinner for several years and it didn't disappoint! Food was excellent. Service was top notch!! And the view is unparalleled.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely, waterfront place thatLovely, waterfront place that we like taking visitors to. The wait staff was less than attentive since they had a large group to also attend to in the adjoining room so placing our order took awhile. I most pleased that aftt ordering my entree with gluten free pasta they took pains to ensure that all my food was completely gluten free. Nice surprise!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMDas Ambiente ist herausragend! FanDas Ambiente ist herausragend!
Fantastischer Blick auf die Skyline von San Diego,

und das Essen war super!
Ein MUSS für Romantiker4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous - we'll be back!Delicious meal, outstanding service, and a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline! We dined outdoors on a Friday evening. Hands down an outstanding dining experience! We will be back.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AM5 starsVery impeccable service.
Food and presentation was good.
Will definitely visit again on our next trip to San Diego.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great EveningWe had a party of 16, and rather than seating us at a long table they put several together side-by-side to form a square table with four per side. The result is that we could talk to anyone at the table without shouting and hear everyone at our table, too!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, great service,Delicious food, great service, spectacular view. We always have a wonderful meal when we dine at Il Fornaio. Pasta portions were a little small considering we ordered them as secondi. Other than that everything was great. Dessert (creme brulee with chocolate mousse) was outstanding!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate lunch before goingWe ate lunch before going to Lamb's Theatre for Damien. The waiter was helpful, and gave us lots of time to decide from the menu. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. We all agreed it was a good experience, and we would come again.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about this placeEverything about this place is amazing; the food, the scene, the staff and the location!! This place is truly a wow factor. We had a group dinner on Easter and everything was perfect. They took great care of us as the food was prompt and delicious!!!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our favorite San DiegoOne of our favorite San Diego restaurants. Great view,
the food is always consistently good, and this time -
we were served by a gorgeous waiter that looked like an
Italian John Hamm! How could you go wrong!?3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant has a magnificentThe restaurant has a magnificent view of San Diego Bay and skyline. Considering how ritzy Coronado can be, the menu items were reasonably priced. The only criticism I could offer is the "small" menu portions are too small. You either get the regular portion, which is gigantic, or the small, which is way too small. Still, this is one of the classiest, most personable restaurants we've visited in San Diego. We will definitely go back!!!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoyed the ambiance andI enjoyed the ambiance and scenic view was breathtaking. The service was good and the food was excellent. I had dinner with my sister and would definitely come again!!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI brought my daughter in forI brought my daughter in for her 18th birthday and were treated to delightful service and special attention. Thank you!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a realy nice eveningJust a realy nice evening for our guests from out of town. The sea bas special was great. Service excellent. View lovely. I think many San Diegans have forgotten or don't know what a lovely and fun restaurant it is.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived a bit early butWe arrived a bit early but the restaurant had no problem seating us right away. It had a nice ambience to it, including a great view of metro San Diego. Appearances at our table by our server seemed perfectly timed and unrushed. Our server answered all of our questions about the various dishes quite knowledgeably. Our entrees were absolutely fantastic(Cannelloni al Forno & Petto di Pollo). We asked our server to recommend a wine for each dish, and his choices were right on the money. He brought out the requested dessert tray, explained a couple in detail, then returned with our desserts(Crema al Doppio Gusto & Crespella di Mele -- both stupendous! Our bill was less than $100, which, given what we ordered, seemed like a steal.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThey easily hosted our groupThey easily hosted our group of 9, and gave us a choice of dining outdoors or in. We chose inside, as it was a bit chilly. Our waiter was helpful and friendly. The food was great all around, though I expected my lasagna to be more tomato-based. It was great none the less. The prices were very reasonable, and we were able to dine without greatly exceeding our expense limits.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMReviewWe had the best time. Our waiter was fantastic. We are Italian and so was our waiter, he treated us so nicely, attententive and thoroughly explained the menu options. We all had the three course options and they were very good. The homemade bread was delicious.
We will definitely be back....the food, the service and the view, you can't beat it!!!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, service and view areFood, service and view are always captivating. Butternut squash and walnut ravioli exceptional this time out.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTook a friend from out ofTook a friend from out of town. He thought it was a great place with good food; fantastic setting; and attentive staff. I like to take people here for the wow factor.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional dining and viewAlways one of my favorite restaurants! Especially for out of town guests and celebrations. I enjoy the variety of selections and their pasta is exceptional. I like the fact I can order half of a pasta dish and do not fret about calories. Service was great for our party of 8 and no one was left waiting or wanting for anything. The house chianti was pleasantly exceptional.Only one complaint- if you are having a before dinner drink during happy hour they won't let you take the drink to your table when your name is called (a just instituted policy). I'm guessing many people took advantage of the great happy hour prices. Still, it just doesn't seem right for such a fine restaurant. Felt sorry for staff having to tell us to go back to bar!!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMManager said we were in goodManager said we were in good hands with our waiter. Service started off fine. Then it took 30 min. to get 1 salad. Waiter said big groups came in after us & "salad maker" got behind. Hunh? When our entrees came, there was no offer of extra cheese. I had to ask for a knife that my waiter took. I had also accidently spilt some pasta. No offer to clean the tablecloth that was too close to wear I was sitting. Food was very good. I liked that there was pastas in half portions.2/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWedding DinnerWe had our wedding at the SD county clerk, and right afterwards we went to IL Fornagio. Spend a wonderful time with our families and obviously my wife and I were delighted.
The scenery of SD Bay is breath taken, the ambiance perfect and food superb.
