The crust on my pizza Christina was so soggy--wet really--in the middle I couldn't pick up one piece. Had to cut and eat with a fork. Almost as if the plate had water all over it when they dished out the pizza. Not the best pizza I've had. Caesar Salad was good, but croutons were also soggy! Place is lovely and inside the Pine Inn. Beautiful interior.

we were treated wonderfully at this fantastic restaurant, a short walk from our hotel.. Fantastic service, food, and ambience. very busy, so the noise level reflects that, would be the only possible detractor.. Even a lovely patio, where dogs are welcome...love that!

A favorite spot in Carmel for lunch turned out to be a great disappointment. The quantity of lunch entrees have reduced by nearly half, yet, the prices increased by at least 20%. Service was fair. Bread as good as always!

I was not so impressed by the food. This restaurant could be a bit more authentic with: - Other italian dishes like parmigiana and caponata (not on the menu) - real tiramisu: how can you claim to be an italian restaurant if you don't do a tiramisu with real mascarpone :-(

I've been to Il Fornaio's in multiple locations including just recently in Beverly Hills where I had an excellent lunch. I've always thought of Il Fornaio restaurants to be a high-end Italian (small) chain that provided very good food with very good service. However my dinner in Carmel on the night of October 10th was Outstanding. My dinning companion and I both ate off the Lombardia Regional Festival menu and I have to say it was some of the best Italian Food that I have had in the US in a long time. When we told them that they should put the Spinach Gnocchi on the menu as a regular item we were told that they would be back on the menu next summer - believe me, it's almost worth the long trip to Carmel!

The service was horrible. The food was left under a heating lamp for at least 30 min. The bar spend the night yelling "I don't have glasses'. The waitress was useless and spent her time talking with friends. In general il Forniao has been one of our favorite restaurants. The Carmel example needs a major revision, probably beginning with the management.

We were looking forward to this restaurant based on the reviews but were very disappointed by the food. The bolognese sauce was extremely salty, and the pasta itself tasted liked dried pasta even though we were told that it was fresh. On the plus side, the bread brought out before dinner was delicious. The service was fine, and our food came very quickly. The best aspect of the restaurant was a very nice, spacious room, so even though most tables were full, it wasn't too loud and didn't feel crowded.

As a local, this is a go to restaurant when you just want a casual no nonsense dinner or lunch. It's has a busy, trendy atmosphere and the food is always good. Il Forniao always delivers great pizzas, (if you like thin crust) and home made pasta, and fresh baked breads! We always see families and groups, so they obviously deliver there. It's very casual dress. Their Happy Hour is great too. Matt the manager is very friendly and will make sure you are well fed and satisfied.

From out of town, read Open Table, which I have used many, many times. The restaurant reviews and menu were to our liking. Upon entering, we were immediately shown to our table, water was poured, bread serves and drink orders taken. A short time later the waiter came by took our order. 45 minutes later the food arrived. My dish was ice cold, no exaggeration. I called waiter over. He took my plate without an apology and said that he would replace it. 15 minutes later when the rest of my party had finished their meals, my dish had still not been replaced. I had to get up and find the waiter to tell him to cancel the order and bring the check. No apology. The bill came followed by the manager who was apologetic and comped our party of 4.

I am a local regular here. Always good. Service with a smile and helpful. The bar is fun on a Friday afternoon because their HH is one of the best in Carmel. Wood fired pizza, carpaccio, calamari, etc.....and drinks for $5.00. Matt the manager is very kind, and gracious and knows how to please this crowd. The food is pretty consistent. The wine dinners are fabulous. I do recommend.

Went with my husband and son. We had the calamari as an appetizer, and the sea bass, roasted chicken, and bolognese as main courses. All were average. We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but wouldn't recommend it now. Service was slow, and the waiter inattentive. Definitely not worth the prices. Also, there was a very strong, sweet fragrance throughout the restaurant that was unpleasant. This may have been coming from the Pine Inn, which is adjacent. Given that many venues and companies in CA are embracing fragrance-free policies, it made the place seem dated.

While attending an evening concert in Carmel, on the spur of the moment my husband and I decided to go out for a late night dinner. From the concert venue, using my iPhone, I made reservations through OpenTable at Il Fornaio, Carmel. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table was waiting, we were immediately seated and a beautiful basket of fresh baked rolls and bread was placed on our table. Our server was friendly, very helpful with our menu selections, and nonintrusive -- we don't enjoy having a server who "hovers" over our table, constantly interrupting our conversation! Our food was absolutely delicious. We have been to Il Fornaio many times, but this evening's experience was the best ever. Well done, Il Fornaio!!

Il Fornaio was a last minute dinner choice after attending the Pebble Beach Concours. We knew the food would be excellent and comforting and the service dependable and it was! I ordered a small portion of butternut squash ravioli with brown butter and tomato sauce. It was perfectly balanced and the crispy sage leaves made the dish. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were lacking in taste but the mozzarella was nice. I would recommend Il Fornaio to others visiting Carmel. We have had similar experience in San Francisco.

We have attended most of the monthly regional meals for several years with mostly great pleasure. But we attended the last two, Veneto and Sardegna, near the end of their presentation dates and in both cases, several dishes and wines were "no longer available." They are obviously under-ordering food for these Festas, and are not even offering comparable substitutes from the regular menu. We had to order them at a la carte cost. Not good.
