  • "Staying in the area to fly out next day, found this very nice restaurant and loved the small portions in the menu. The carpaccio, the ravioli alla lucano, the pasta with pesto sauce and the dolce trio dessert were all fabulous. Service was superb. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Had the rare opportunity for a leisurely lunch and Il Fornaio was the perfect spot. I love the building and relaxed, open atmosphere. The service was attentive but unrushed and the food never disappoints. I had the Piatto Smeralda (grilled seafood on a bed of spinach and arugula, perfect since I watch carbs and thoroughly enjoyed my roll dipped in olive oli and vinegar), while my friend had Conchighle al Pollo (pasta with chicken breast, broccoli, sun dried tomatoes). We both cleaned our plates, and nevertheless ordered coffee and split the Tortino al Lemon Verde (key lime custard with amaretto cookie crust), which was to die for. Overall a wonderful meal and experience."

  • "This is a nice spot. Very attractive venue but the food is only so-so. I had the Canneloni and it wasn't very good. My wife had the seafood grill which she enjoyed. The service was very good but all in all it was a disappointing dinner and I wouldn't hurry back."

  • "Have been to the Burlingame Il Fornaio several times previously and enjoyed both food and service. This visit was disappointing."

  • "We were a group of eight and arrived at our reserved time. The valet service makes it convenient. Inside, our table was ready as we requested. The food was good and the service great. We had a wonderful time."

  • "We had a party of 10 including 3 children celebrating a couple of birthdays. The waiter was hard of hearing and very harried, they may have been understaffed as it was pretty crowded. One person order the Chicken and it was grossly undercooked. He sent it back and reordered a fish dish. Because they cook everything from scratch, it took over 20 minutes to get his new meal. The rest of us had finished dinner by that time. Kind of ruined the meal for the rest of us. The rest of the meals were good, nice place for children menu-wise and noise level wise. We'll give it another try, but getting the meal right the first time is pretty important to the overall experience."

  • "I ordered a salad that was in the daily lunch specials of the day. Greens w/ tomatoes and prawns. I requested lite on the dressing. Should have had the dressing on the side. My salad was soaked in dressing, the lettuce was soggy and had wilted brown pieces of lettuce as well. The presentation of the salad was an embarrassment to say the least!!"

  • "food was very good, salmon salad delicious. We had excellent service, better than usual."

  • "The waiter was not very attentive, he forgot things, didn't seem to know what he was doing, and when my food finally came out there was a noticeable hair on my plate. The waiter's first instinct was to brush the hair off and leave the plate sitting in front of me... After an awkward silence he took it back to the kitchen and had it remade. The food tasted great, but I was underwhelmed with the service, presentation, and noisy atmosphere."

  • "Last minute reservation on a Saturday night, we were early and got seated a few minutes after arrival. Hostess seemed a bit aloof but place was packed. The bread was good, the evoo and balsamic had zero flavor. We split a caprese salad, again almost zero flavor and the tomatoes were not caprese even though they are currently in season. The Capellini was perfectly cooked but could have used a slosh more evoo and white wine. I asked for added shrimp and got 4. The best part of the meal was dessert. The sorbet was the best, most flavorful I have ever had, so much so I got the name of it from the chef. Service was outstanding. Lots of the "old school" wait staff. The wine list was nice but did not have allot of Italian wine, oddly enough."

  • "Good atmosphere and food but too noisy to have a meaningful conversation."

  • "We haven't dined at Il Fornaio for several years and had forgotten how good the food was. As a byproduct of the increase of competition in Burlingame, the restaurant isn't as packed with customers at the bar making it less noisy. There was also was a favorable ratio of waiters to customers. I'd forgotten about the speciality events menu offered from time to time and this time took advantage of the wine paring suggestions. I am not a fan of rosé wine, but found the match delightful with my soft shell crab starter."

  • "Our bill was quite pricey and the service was mediocre. In fact, we were sort of neglected even though it was a slow night. It's good food and nice ambiance. But then you see what you paid and you're like "huh. not sure that was worth it""

  • "This was the best meal we have ever eaten at Il Fornaio."

  • "Loved the restaurant. However, if you make a reservation for a certain time, don't come any earlier. You won't get seated until your reservation time. I made one for 8:15 and arrived around 7:50 and had to wait while everyone else was being seated."

  • "great regular menu and a fun regionale menu if you want to try something new. Our favorite waitress Karina always give us a warm welcome as well as the manager Joseph."

  • "My husband and I had a very pleasant dinner here for my birthday. It was just the perfect casual setting I wanted and the service was very good."

  • "We could not have chosen a more enjoyable restaurant for a special occasion. First off, I must applaud the splendid service of our wait person, Andrea R. The restaurant would do well to keep her and advance her at all costs! The food was very delicious with an outstanding presentation. I had the special salmon with grilled vegetables, done to perfection. The birthday had pasta with assorted fish which she said was the best she had ever had. We finished off with three deserts that left us "licking the plates". Hats off to the crew at Il Fornaio!!!"

  • "We held a business lunch with four people and service was very poor. We could barely hear or understand our waitress and the service she provided was poor. We had to request refills of water and two in our party had pasta and we had to request cheese. Restaurant was not overly busy, but waitress may have been relatively new."

  • "I've been to Il Fornaio in SF and really enjoyed the dining experience. However, the Burlingame experience was much different. Although our waiter was very friendly he was not very attentive (never refilled our beverage glasses, never refilled our bread basket although said he would immediately, slow bringing our dessert menu after we asked for it). I was very disappointed that my entree was not hot and this was probably because it sat for a while before being brought to the table. My husband's entree was also not hot. I will probably give restaurant another change just to see if it was an off day for them."

  • "Over the years, we enjoyed Il Fornaio in Burlingame for the good food, warm atmosphere and reasonable prices. On two occasions, the manager did not resolve our complaints regarding over charges and the restaurant main office stepped in to resolve the situations. Hopefully, all goes well for future customers. Check please."

  • "We have been many times. This is the first time we had a horrible wait person. He was rude from the start. He tried to rush us thru every thing. He kept pushing to order. Then when we did he insisted on taking our appetizer and entree at the same time so he could put them in at the same time . He kept slamming the drawer behind him to the side of our table. I would.never and I repeat never have him again. He ruined a night we had planned with friends we had not seen in a long tome. What a shame for someone like this to work at your restaurant. What a larger shame we had to have him!!!"

  • "We enjoyed a birthday celebration with the lamb chops , pizza, carpaccio, as well as other delicious pasta entrees. The vibe is energetic and everyone seems happy. The service from Francisco was superior."

  • "They were very busy (as they usually are on a Saturday night), so the service was hectic/spotty. For the party of 22, we had only one waitress, which had she not had a few other tables in various locations of the restaurant, wouldn't be a problem. However, a few times during the service, even the other staff realized that we did not have timely service, so other staff members pitched in and corrected the situation. Otherwise, very accomodating and courteous service. The food is good (i don't think, people go here exclusively for food), but the combination of location, ambiance, and appropriate pricing, makes this place a good dining option. The noise level is high, so not very good for romantic dinners. Very kid-friendly."

  • "Not our first time. Great service as always. Had two kids in our party and they seemed to enjoy it also."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Our team had a very nice dinner here. We had 11 people. They combined two round tables somehow creating a nice 8 shaped table that allowed for an intimate feeling for such a large number. Great appetizers and entrees. Everyone enjoyed the meal and had a great time."

  • "We had booked well ahead a "day after" Fathers Day dinner celebration for 6 and had requested a table by the window. Upon arrival we were "greeted" by an unsmiling hostess. She curtly told us to "hold on". When she finally looked at us again I gave our name and reminded her of my request. She rudely informed me that we had a table in another location. When I expressed my disappointment she shrugged and spoke in a condescending and dismissive voice. There was no "I'm sorry, you should have been informed...", or perhaps "how about this nice round over near the window". Even though the service was five star and the food terrific, we will only patronize the Palo Alto location in the future. My son and daughter-in-law were flabbergasted."

  • "Whenever I have reason to schedule a business lunch, I always think of this Il Fornaio first. The food and service are reliably excellent, and the ambiance of this particular Il Fornaio is especially nice."

  • "We had a large group and they accomodated us well with our OpenTable reservation. Appetizers, main course and desserts were all good."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "We've had great experiences there, but this time we had mediocre service. Firstly, we had a 4 p.m. reservation made well in advance and the restaurant was fairly empty, but they tried to put us away from the main room, to a corner room that was temperature and atmosphere cold. Secondly, the servers seemed overworked and exhausted. Attitude was low energy and sarcastic with rolling of eyes after responding to our inquiries. The server was unable to hear and/or understand one of our guests' question, and didn't make any effort to understand, but seemed to be annoyed with taking our table orders: drink and food. It was definitely what we did not expect."
