  • "We decided to do something different this Easter, easy no stress. So we went to Il Fornaio, we really enjoyed ourselves. They had 2 specials Lamb and seafood. The resturant isn't quiet so if that is what you want this may not be for you but it wasn't so noisey that you couldn't talk with each other."

  • "Upscale setting filled with wealthy, upbeat looking folks. Good solid food. Lively bar scene. Good, friendly and helpful service people."

  • "Grab a chair outside or dine inside, either way this venerable place has it figured out. You'll be relaxed and have a nice respite from the shopping happening blocks around. While good, their cappuccino isn't dialed in. But if you take home some of their pastries or bread you will be happy as well. This locale needs a bit tidying up, maybe some fresh paint and some cleaning. The nice waitstaff makes up for any impediments. "

  • "Food and service were superior. Nice house wines....great bread and the Carpaccio was delicious."

  • "I dined here Saturday night here with my 95 year old Mom and 30 year old daughter. I am 66! NONE of us could hear comfortably, and my Mom is not hard of hearing, remarkably. We all leaned in as far as we could to converse and raised our voices beyond the comfort level. This made the dining experience exhausting and sadly, not pleasurable. I have been here before for lunch and might consider returning, but never again for dinner."

  • "We have been coming here for years for the pizza. My husband is European and only likes this traditional style of pizza. Il Fornaio does it best!"

  • "We used to go to Il Fornaio Burlingame a lot. Easter brunch was our first time back in quite a while, but now I remember why we quit going. It took 25 minutes for drinks and over 65 minutes for food to arrive. The eggs in my Benedettina were raw, runny egg whites. I was hesitant to send this back, but the waiter assured me it wouldn't take long to re-do. Soon, my family was all but finished, so I asked the waiter to cancel the order. Less than a minute later, it showed up via another waiter. Of course, by then, the rest of my table was finished, so I boxed it up. The shocking part was it was still on my bill. It will be a loooong time before we go back."

  • "A good meal each time but pricey for portion size. There are more "special" places in Burlingame but this is good if you want consistency. $8-12 dinner salad seems a bit much and is too big for a meal addition. I've enjoyed this restaurant in the past but pricing seems to have skyrocketed."

  • "I enjoyed a delicious brunch with my cousin, who is on a special diet. The server listened carefully to what he could eat and told him how the kitchen could modify a number of brunch items to meet his needs. The kitchen delivered an entree that fit his diet and tasted great. This was my first brunch experience at Il Fornaio. I've enjoyed many great dinners and lunches there. Now I know they do great brunches, too. I highly recommend them both for delicious food and excellent service."

  • "Our group arrived piecemeal, but this did not faze Francisco, our waiter. He was active in describing cocktail and antipasto offerings. When we were all seated, he efficiently took care of ordering and delivering the meals."

  • "Great dining experience. Our server was excellent, didn't rush us and the food was outstanding"

  • "We have been customers for years. Sunday night was disappointing. There were six of us with a pleasant, but very unattentive waitress. All of our food arrived barely lukewarm and the portions of veal looked like it was a child's serving. The minestrone soup was cold and mostly liquid with a couple of vegetables floating and had no flavor. Our entrees were cold and not enjoyable. The desserts were excellent and the coffee was good. I would have to think twice about returning to the restaurant after this restaurant being one of our favorites. The noise level made it impossible to have much of a conversation. Not a good night."

  • "The atmosphere is pretty, and the restaurant is quiet so it's a nice, comfortable place. However, the food is mediocre. My friend and I had the pasta special with clams, octopus etc. It was strange and lackluster. Service was slow, and the waiter didn't seem to know what he was doing. I'd return for a glass of wine, but that's it."

  • "I really like this spot they make a great Ginger Mohito!....BUT...They over fill a small glass with Ice (Old Fashioned size) and give you very little Mohito. I just felt ripped off, don't make your guests feel that way!!!"

  • "Had a pizza and my spouse had the Salmon entree. Both delicious and the service is always great. We love this restaurant because of so many factors, but probably because it's a Burlingame long-time favorite and the quality never disappoints. The staff there is great and we are treated well because we do our best to treat them with respect."

  • "My family of four agreed that we have never had such excellent, attentive, caring, professional but fun customer service. Been to this restaurant many times over the years. It's always good food/atmosphere and close to home. The trip was exceptional in that the food was sub-par (seafood very good but pasta mushy, the strangest grilled cheese sandwhich for kids I've even seen and a mediocre bolognese) the desserts (we tried three which were complimentary when our sons grilled cheese was hard and a little black) and they were all good. Mgr took our son's sandwhich off the bill, made him a new one, checked in with my son (age 8) to be sure it was satisfactory and sent us a dessert sampler. The waiter checked in as well. We'll be back!"

  • "I had family in town with a 2 year old and a 92 year old, party of 8. I was able to get a reservation no problem, same day. Parking was a breeze with a lot across the street. And the food and service was great as usual. I love their fresh baked breads, and the bruschetta was amazing. They also accommodated two vegans among us, with several options from the menu. They were happy to convert some of the dishes to their liking. I would highly recommend this place for family night out."

  • "I always return to this restaurant. The food is consistently delicious, the service is good and it's good for lunch AND dinner occasions."

  • "The pros: Nice decor, perfect for a business lunch. Good service - cordial, knowledgeable, timely, not intrusive. All ingredients nice and fresh. Amazing bread! Great desserts! The cons: Too noisy! Had lunch on a Monday with three friends, and we kept saying "what?" And the food (except for bread and desserts, which were great) was kind of bland. The chef that day was definitely too timid. Overall, would I recommend it? Maybe, not sure. The noise is the deal breaker for me. I can live with bland food, but it's hard to enjoy a meal with friends when you can't hear each other."

  • "Unfortunately disappointed! The caprese salad was dreadful, it's italian dining, basically it turned out to be a salad for one. The tomatoes were soft and served warm above room temperature. The sole was over cooked, the vidka sauce was watered down, not even sure that was even heavy cream. The bacon overpowered the entire dish. Please send your chef, to italian culinary school. If you're looking for a high priced middle of the road italian, this chain is for you Cheers"

  • "My family eat at Il Fornaio often and we enjoy the restaurant. The service is friendly and the food is very good. This last time 3/16/14 was a celebration of my wifes 50th. We had a lovely time everyone enjoyed the food. The service was a little rushed this time however and our waiter never offered to bring us coffee!! I had to ask another waiter to assist. It wont turn us off Il Fornaio we have been going here for 15 years. Just didnt feel good to be forgotten."

  • "Table of 4 to celebrate daughters b'day. Liked that they offered children's plates- however was very small portion-not enough food (cheese ravioli) for a 10 yr old. Staff also forgot to bring a side dish until we asked. Variety of bread in the basket was delicious. Lamb was excellent, eggplant ravioli was flat- loved the sauce however could barely taste any eggplant. Excellent salad and wine, and overall had a very pleasant dining experience."

  • "Enjoyed eating here. I had the prix fixe meal. My salad, ravioli, and chicken were good. My husband had the seafood meal, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We finished with dessert coffee that was delicious."

  • "Went for lunch, went early for lunch. Greeted and seated by friendly staff. Excellent service, they gave us time to sit and talk and order at our leisure, were not rushed in any way, and were there when needed. I don't recall the guy's name, cuz I'm dumb, but he was young and tall with a slight white guy mustache. Great server. Was on a date, so I was extra awkward, but they put me at ease completely."

  • "We booked a table for 6 as 2 of my daughters' best friends are visiting from out of town. We showed up at the booking time and we promptly were taken to the back section of the restaurant behind the bakery and not far from the toilets. There were 3 other big tables; 1 table with a crying infant which didn't bother as much as what to come. Two of the large tables left right after we were seated. At that point of time, the bus boy started to dismantle these make-shift tables with all the noise of dragging chairs on the floor. We were left staring at this guy leaving half of the room completely unmade. The waiter had an attitude as if he didn't want to be there. The complimentary bread was late; the food was slightly cold...it was a disaster!"

  • "My date and I went to an early dinner to celebrate her birthday, and I was surprised at how many people were there besides ourselves. We had a great meal, and had a fun couple of hours.....there was no rush to leave."

  • "The restaurant, Il Fornaio in Burlingame, CA, was outstanding. Good value for the food, which is consistently excellent, and very high praise for our wonderful waiter, Willy. Only one complaint: The receptionist could not find our Open Table reservation (I did show her the confirmation in my email), and she was testy about the annoyance of not finding it. Perhaps there was a glitch in the system which needs to be examined? This is the second time that I have encountered this event with OT. Just thought that you should be aware. Thanks, RK"

  • "Carnavale celebration was a lot of fun. Festa Regionale menu offered specialities from Basilicata. The lamb shank was "fall off the bone' tender and flavorful. It was served with mashed potatoes and spinach."

  • "We have been going to Il Fornaio Burlingame for awhile now, despite that we live very close to the Il Fornaio in Palo Alto. Generally the ambiance and food in Burlingame are superior. Unfortunately, with a group of 5 on Saturday night, we were seated in a back room that lacked any ambiance and surprisingly, was extremely noisy. I will be sure next time to specify the main dining room. Our meals were slightly below the typically superb dishes that are served. My main course of freshwater scampi was hardly edible. the shrimp had no taste, but fortunately there was very little shrimp meat in them. I had a similar dish here last summer that was amazing. What happened? Very disappointing."

  • "Was looking for a place to meet for brunch while on the way to SFO. Have always enjoyed Il Fornaio for dinner and was looking forward to trying for brunch but was disappointed with the food. Between the four of us, we had an open faced omelette with shrimp, crab cake benedict, eggs, and yogurt with berries. The omlette was very bland and the shrimp had no flavor. The crab cake benedict was very fishy, though the potatoes and fruit were good. The eggs were fine, though the bacon was very good. The yogurt was OK. Really nice atmosphere, disappointing food."

  • "They spilled vinegar on our table, the waiter was insulting and the food was terrible. I will never go to this location ever."

  • "The food is fairly good, but since they are in a good location, they always get a good amount of clients. However, the service here is really bad. It seems that they don't need to work on the service since they will always have clients..."

  • "Waiter was best ever, hostess was terrible. Waited over 20 min. for table even though we had a reservation. When asked if something special was going on hostess said no. Found out later they we're have a special night for mailing list subscribers. Don't know why she didn't say so. When she came to tell us table was being cleared, I asked if I could go ahead and sit down because I wasn't feeling well. She told me in a very rude, haughty manner that they did not seart people at unset tables, we would be seated only when the table was set. If it hadn't been my daughter's birthday, would've walked out. If not for excellent, apologetic waiter, I would only give this place a one. Also heard bartender shouting and swearing at customers."

  • "I went to Il Fornaio with my girlfriends for a birthday celebration, and we had a great time. The service was nice, and it was a good atmosphere. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. I recommend the Margarita Pizza, which we shared two of between the four of us. I would definitely go back for another special-occasion dinner."

  • "I took two colleagues for dinner here, both Californians and familiar with the chain, but not the Burlingame restaurant. We found the service to be spot on. Two of us had the veal, which was fabulous and one had the seafood grill. The bottle of Amarone was amazing. The only slight negatives were that it was very crowded and noisy. Still a nice evening."

  • "The waitress did not check on the food after it arrived. I had the veal It was cooked right but was very bland. Broccolini was overcooked. My friends pasta was really salty. Not to mention the calamari was not crispy but soggy. Was not battered correctly."

  • "We did the same as last Valentine's Day and it was just a pleasurable. The restaurant does a nice job of making it festive and the wait staff does their best to have the right frame of mind. This is our "go-to" place for a nice night out in town. Only mess up was that the waiter brought my wife Petrali instead of the Salmon disk she ordered, but since she loves both she went with the change."
