Diner Reviews
  • "The food was fantastic. We had the duck breast appetizer, my wife the venison entrée, and I had the pork osso buco. Strawberry shortcake for dessert. The wine list was very good."

  • "Excellent restaurant! We shared the Budino Pecorino, a pecorino romano soufflé with oyster mushrooms, which is like a creamy was a custard or pudding. It was fantastic. My wife had the three mushroom risotto special and I had the pan seared venison medallions. They were both excellent. We shared a chocolate lava cake which was also very good. The whole dinner was $144 with tip and 2 glasses of wine. We eat out a lot"

  • "One of the best meals we've ever had at a restaurant. Wonderful service too."

  • "After wine tasting we asked around for a good dinner place and over and over were told to go to il cortile. We had no problem getting in as it was a Wed. we started with the veal tongue appetizer which was a first for us both and it was deliciously tender and served with 3 flavorful sauces, My husband got the Osso bucco, delicious and fell off the bone served with perfectly prepared Parmesan risotto, he cleaned the plate! I got the wild boar pasta which had homemade noodles-best I've ever had! Great service, amazing food, reasonably priced for the portions, would be confident ordering anything off the menu as everyone around us seemed completely happy with their food, we will be back for sure on our next trip!"

  • "If you are in Paso, don't miss this place. Unbelievable yummy. Almost like being in Italy. Fresh-creative-delicous. Great service and attitude."

  • "Reminds me of Emilio's, Highland and Melrose in L.A. from years ago. Really good."

  • "This is my 3rd trip to Il Cortile. First time was one of the most memorable meals ever. Second was good, but paled slightly in comparison. 3rd was a total return to form. The table (6 people), shared some appetizers, which included the amazing beef carpaccio with truffle cream sauce and the truffle risotto. I had the special, sea bass, my wife the salmon and around the table there were lamb chops, venison and squid ink pasta with lobster. Everyone enjoyed their meals immensely. We had 2 local CalItal wines, a Tablas Creek Vermentino and a Gironata Nebbiolo. Both were stellar. Our server was charming and attentive without hovering. I really can't find a thing not to like."

  • "There is lots of good food in Paso Robles but we always come back to Il Cortile. Beautifully prepared food with excellent service and a wonderful decorated space. We have never had a bad experience here."

  • "The food and wine list were very good; the hostess was very welcoming but our waiter was a bit arrogant."

  • "Went to an early dinner...6:30... restaurant was only 2/3 full.... ordered the salmon main course which was terribly overdone... like eating a piece of leather.... no excuse other than the fact that the cook was either inexperienced or failed to keep an eye on the grill.... very hard to justify the price for the quality of the dish.... very disappointed!"

  • "Not your typical pasta and sauce restaurant. The menu is filled with enticing blends of flavors and textures. The staff is knowledgable about each item and able to suggest an appropriate regional (local or Italian) wine to compliment your selection. Il Cortile is a pleasant escape from the standard fare."

  • "We had such a wonderful experience at Il Cortile from the food to the service! We ordered the Osso Buco which was a special that evening and the Pappardelle al cinghiale - both were delicious and perfectly prepared! The panna cotta for dessert was absolutely amazing! We had a wonderful server who made great wine suggestions to pair with our meal. We would definitely go back the next time we are in Paso Robles."

  • "Spectacular in every way. Server (Wendy) was great...she made a wonderful dining experience even better! A must when visiting Pasa Robles!"

  • "Chef Santos has a way with his Italian style that takes you on a foodie adventure. This is not your grandma's Eye-talian restaurant. Fresh, full of flavor and bursting with straight from the garden goodness, you can't go wrong here."

  • "The chef at this restaurant is great I love truffles and have had them all over the world and they are the best here. He is what I call the truffle master."

  • "We are from southern California and found your restaurant last year just by asking someone on the corner by the park. We made a point of stopping in Paso Robles on our way to No Cal just so we could eat at Il Cortile. We were a little disappointed that we couldn't get our favorite appetizer again - figs with prosciutto - but figs weren't in season. The pasta dishes are fantastic and different."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "We read some reviews of Yelp and trip advisor. This restaurant is one of the best. We ordered grilled octopus for appetizer, squid ink pasta (one for me and one for my husband) , and tiramisu. All are good. Especially pasta. I can see they are hand made and very fresh. It is a little pricey, but we are not disappointed. The service was excellent."

  • "Start off by thinking of the very best Italian food you can possibly imagine. Okay now you need to dial it back a bit and your expectations are right for this place. Set in a cozy, warm environment you will find a very well balanced and innovative menu, without it being pretentious or intimidating. Our waitress Vanessa was passionate about the food and the wine that was served and struck the perfect balance of being there for us whenever we needed something and not when we didn't. Notable was their black truffle specials that were surprisingly well priced, their gluten free pasta was the best I have ever had and even their ordinary salad was not ordinary by virtue of the sweet balsamic dressing. You won't go wrong here. Bonnie apetito!"

  • "Everything we had was magnificent. They even make a salad taste superb."

  • "Our dinner was delicious. We started with the mozzarella tasting: burrata, buffalo & fresh mozzarella served with toast. It's hard to go wrong there. My husband had the scallops on top of spinach and he thought that was an excellent dish. Then I had the ink squid pappardelle with lobster ragu. I never have had lobster ragu before and it was very good. My husband then had the quail appetizer and said it was just ok. We finished off dinner with the chocolate molten cake which was good. The service was very good and even though it was Saturday night, the noise level was low. All in all, a very nice experience and we recommend this restaurant."

  • "Asparagus appetizer was amazing, even my husband liked it and he doesn't like vegetables. I had the sea bass, which was full of flavor. We had a table of 6 and everyone was thrilled with their meals. Definitely the best restaurant in Paso Robles."

  • "The grilled octopus was a great start to our meal--very tender and delicate. There is a nice selection of wines by the glass (and bottle) from the Central Coast and from Italy. I chose an Italian Vermentino with the Octopus, and then compared the Tablas Creek Vermentino with my entrée (a grilled lobster special). The local wine was different but every bit as good as the Italian version. We had a great time visiting with the neighboring tables along the banquette. The Papardelle with Wild Boar was a favorite on either side of us. My friend had the Pork Osso Bucco which was delicious. We both had risotto with our meals, which was cooked perfectly."

  • "Nice ambience, good service, but the food was inauthentic and overly elaborate."

  • "If you are traveling to Paso do yourself a favor and try Il Cortile. We started dinner with a mozzarella appetizer with crostini. Excellent. We split a salad before the entree. Farm fresh and very tasty. I had the house specialty - braised pork with risotto. Awesome. My wife had fresh pasta which was outstanding. The wine list had local Paso selections, other CA regions and Italian choices. We splurged an a Linne Caloda - 2010 Overthinker - which was fantastic. Overall very good experience. Highly recommended."

  • "The food here is creative and delicious. We had four appetizers and shared. They were all fabulous. We had Osso bucco and the veal chop at our table for entrees. The meat was lean and tender and the sauces were wonderful. The teramisu was some of the best we have ever had. Our service was warm and helpful and the chef was engaging. We can't wait to return."

  • "Chef Santos is a fantastic chef and his staff is exceptionally well trained and knowledgable. The food is prepared and presented with care. Each dish is a delight. We were a group of ten and could not have asked for a better experience. We will return as often as we are in Paso!"

  • "We visit Il Cortile during each visit to Paso Robles. It the food did not disappoint it was right on, and the server was attentive and friendly."

  • "Our server was fantastic. She really "sold" the dishes to us and we were not disappointed. The asparagus wrapped in proscuitto topped with buratta and a balsamic reduction was excellent. We ordered two of the chef's signature dishes- Sea Bass with a light tomato and caper sauce with a side of pureed white sweet potatoes and the Pork Osso Buco with risotto. Both were excellent. We look forward to eating at Il Cortile the next time we visit PR."

  • "Il Cortile was by far the highlight of our trip! We were blown away by Chef Santos creations! The whole experience was outstanding! Eric was our server and he was so knowledgeable, professional and pleasant! And the food... every bite took as back to Italy! Seared Scallops over a bed of squid ink polenta and seasonal mushrooms Beef Carpaccio with parmesan cream sauce and shaved trufflesHomemade Pappardelle with Wild Boar Pork Ossobuco with herb risotto. Torta di Ricotta. Everything was amazing! And then Chef Santos sent us his Panna Cotta, OH MY GOD! I never had Panna Cotta like that! Not here, not in Italy, NOT EVER! Perfection is the only word that comes close to describing it! If ever in Paso Robles you MUST dine at Il Cortile! :)"

  • "..from the warm welcome to the fabulous food and the attentive service, such an experience - and don't miss the opportunity to eat the best Osso Buco outside of Italy. A place to remember and to visit regularly."

  • "After reading the reviews and checking out the menu, we were anticipating an exciting dining experience. It didn't happen. We were seated at the smallest table in the back of the house (OK, that can happen by chance), but the portion size for the pasta one of us ordered was tiny (that should never happen). The other dishes (two starters and another pasta) were acceptable, but nothing special. Given the well chosen ingredients, we think the chef could have done much better. The dessert menu was lacking imagination, so we passed."

  • "I read a few reviews on this restaurant prior to booking my own reservation. The food was spectacular! I had a taste of the quail, Tortellini with slow roasted rabbit, lamb chops, and chilean Seabass which was great and would recommend it to anyone. The service on the other hand did not match the food. Our reservation time was at 745pm but didnt get seated til 820pm. Once we were seated the server took awhile just to take our drink order and appetizer. The server did try to acknowledge his lack of service and apologized so i took that into consideration. I would go again, but hopefully its not as busy the next time i go."

  • "This fabulous restaurant is located in downtown Paso Robles, two blocks from the city park. Super ambiance, attentive service, and fantastic food! We can't wait to go back. Risoto with truffles was so tasty and the sea bass cooked to perfection, light and flakey and slightly crispy on the outside. My husband enjoyed the filet and we devoured the chocolate molten cake."

  • "Enjoyed my visit to Il Cortile. The dishes we had were exceptional. We shared three dishes: Mozzarella Crostini, Fettuccini with Rabbit and the Rack of Lamb. We took some of the fettuccini home. My wife thought the lamb was the best she had ever had. We had a large group next to us and the restaurant was quite loud. The service was excellent."

  • "We went Ash Wednesday and the 4 of us were able to select outstanding non-meat entrees. Good wine list with local stuff, which we like. Quick service and preparation. We'll be back."

  • "We had dined here once before, not long after they opened a few years ago, but had not been impressed -- can't remember the particulars, but we just never returned. We were in the mood for Italian this night, so tried Il Cortile again and were not disappointed at all. Server was great and the food was excellent. They used top quality ingredients and have a light touch with the preparation - no gooey, messy, cheesy (although they have lovely cheese course options!), over-sauced plates here! We will return much sooner than after previous visit, maybe even this week again!"
