Diner Reviews
  • "I love this place. If you are looking for awesome food at a good price, this is the place to go. The pasta is made in house and the service is excellent. I eat here at least once a month with my clients and friends. "

  • "We have been dining at Il Corso for many years, particularly when we attend events at City Center. Food is consistently very well prepared, the service friendly and prompt and special menu items interesting. The ambiance is very pleasant and vibrant in the narrow street-side section of the restaurant and a little dreary (but quieter) in the rear section, particularly if you are the only diners. Il Corso is always considered when in the area."

  • "I have been a fan or Il Corso for years. This is s gem in the heart of mid town. The menus is always fresh and specials std always special. Perfect for lunch, a night on the town or pre/post a Broadway play. You won't be disappointed!"

  • "The lightly fried Calamari was served fresh and light. The lentils in olive oil and the fresh bread were very good. The drinks were a good size. My seafood Possilico - clams, mussels, fish and calamari in a zesty red sauce was good - calamari was a bit chewy and the clams very tiny, the Branzino was cooked lightly, deboned and was excellent. The Pork Milanese was tasty and not greasy. Coffee finished off the night."

  • "Waiter was friendly, strongly Italian. Full knowledge of menu and specialties. Lasagna in bologenese sauce was excellent. Priced right for a Midtown eatery. Great dessert option. Missed having the wife with me for this dining experience. Very good to eat alone as a travelling businessperson. Quick in/out, but absolutely no rushing me."

  • "Il Corso is small and unpretentious. It reminds me a lot of excellent little restaurants I used to go to in Rome, when the dollar was strong. The wait staff was superb and attentive without ever hovering. But of course the real star is the food: this is absolutely top-notch Italian cuisine, and the fresh pastas are divine. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Went there for first time. The waiter was great but the food was not. Eggplant parmigiana as special appetizer, you could get a better one in Sbarro Caccio & Pepe my pasta was not really hot and the parmesan tulip was not cooked well. It should be pepper, parmesan cheese and olive oil but my dish had a weird sauce with pepper on it. My friend ordered the special of the day, which was supposed to be cannelloni with risotto and sausage with béchamel sauce. Surprised when he found that the cannelloni were filled with ricotta cheese only, no sausage or risotto. We returned the order to the kitchen. Desserts were really lame as well. Will not return."

  • "We chose this restaurant for a reunion of Italianists who had studied in Rome together a quarter-century ago. There ended up being just three of us, but the staff showed no annoyance whatsoever. The service was first-rate, and the food top-notch, including the torta della nonna, much better than just about any we've had in Italy over the years. I expect to bring my wife to Il Corso the next time we're in New York. Certainly it is not cheap; but it is very fairly priced for the quality one gets, and in midtown Manhattan is about as reasonable as one is likely to find. Yes, I will definitely be back!!"

  • "My husband and I visit NYC often and we have eaten here before. Their pasta dishes are always generous and very tasty. Their salads are also big so split one if you can. Will eat here again when we come back."

  • "Our experience there is always wonderful. Gnocchi the lightest. The lasagna is incredible , light and fabulous taste. The staff is friendly and accommodating . The chef Gennaro was happy to make a special dessert that we requested. Amazing meal."

  • "We liked the restaurant but the staff was not very accomodating. We had a reservation for weeks, and when we arrived they put us right next to the order statioin and where it was very drafty. There were many empty tables but they would not accomodate us. That set dinner off to a bad start. The food was good, but nothing memorable. It is not a place we would rush to go back to but probably a good place to eat if you were going to City Center."

  • "Very consistently excellent, with knowledgable waitstaff and very good list of Italian wines. Food is always more interesting to see and taste than the menu descriptions would suggest. Can get quite noisy when busy."

  • "This charming Italian restaurant is a favorite of ours when we get to the city. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere, great food, and good drinks. Wait service is the best -- prompt, not overbearing, and a bit of old country."

  • "I took my wife on a surprise trip to NYC for Valentine's Day. After researching what seemed like hundreds of prix fixe menus I picked Il Corso based on the good reviews, central location, and reasonable prices on their ala carte menu. My wife could not have been happier with my choice. They have a quiet, dimly lit dining room up front that was perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was excellent (highly recommend the melt-in-your-mouth bufala mozzerella). The service was very good, if just a little impersonal, but as a young looking couple I find this happens often. Just a guess but I would think this would be a perfect restaurant for a first date. Nice and quiet to be able to carry on a conversation."

  • "We have been to Il Corso many times, and always come away feeling as if we've had a very special evening. Even during Restaurant Week (which is almost as bad as Valentine's Day), when things seem to be hectic for every NY restaurant, Il Corso manages to rise above expectations. When I ordered a Prosecco before dinner, my waiter suggested a dry Austrian rosé that I might like. After a taste test I was delighted. Knowledgeable wait staff is so essential to an excellent dining experience."

  • "looking for a good italian restaurant in midtown and found Il Corso. I recommend it to anyone looking for a dish of fresh pasta along with some seafood. i had short ribs that were a special item that night. they were excellent. the side of roasted potatoes were nothing special. my kids had gnocchi and they enjoyed them tremendously. Service was excellent, our waiter was very friendly and made sure we felt right at home."

  • "I love Italian food, so I've got a bit of a high standard, if I do say so myself. Il Corso totally impressed. Everything was fresh, which is not an easy accomplishment in mid February. The portions were perfect. The service was prompt, but not pushy. And everything just tasted wonderful. I'm so glad I took a risk on a place I'd knew nothing about. It really paid off."

  • "I love this restaurant. Love the food, the service.... One of the best affordable Italian restaurants I've been in NYC. And for Brazilians and Spanish speakers, having someone who can translate different ingredients is always helpful! =)"

  • "I wasn't sure what to expect considering I've never eaten there before and I booked a reservation for the busiest dinner date of the year. They managed the busy Valentine's Day dinner rush very well. Food was excellent and their service was equally great! I will make this a regular dinner spot going forward!"

  • "We ran across this restaurant when it was on the other side of the street and partnered with the "coffee" bar next door and when my wife wanted a special coffee and the waiter went next door and got it, they won us for life. It has not changed since."

  • "Took my wife for an early dinner after a matinee. It was her birthday and while I did not request anything special (it would have embarrassed her), the waiter kindly brought a complimentary dessert and coffee with sambuca. We will return for sure as my wife (a foodie) really enjoyed the food. Service was responsive and attentive."

  • "We enjoy Il Corso almost all the time. Great neighborhood place. This last time the food was just off--everything except the salad (which was great--fresh, tasty, excellent). All the entrees were "blah" like the taste had just been left out--or froze on the way back to our table? Dunno why! But, since you asked..."
