Il Cantinori, located in Greenwich Village, has been at the forefront of Tuscan cuisine in NYC since its opening in 1983. This old farmhouse with a rustic warmth, stucco walls, wooden beams and voluminous floral arrangements is very romantic and elegant. We combine the unique traditional flavors of the Tuscan countryside with a complete seasonal lunch and dinner menu.   • "I went with a total group of 7 people while visiting NYC for the weekend. It was great- they checked our coat when we got there and seated us right away. There was endless bread (fresh baked) & a ton of staff to help us at any time. The food was amazing- we did the prefix menu for restaurant week. It was delicious. It was really cramped in the restaurant though. My drink (whiskey & ginger) was just about straight whiskey too, which is great at a bar but not a nice dinner. Everyone loved it overall, though. I got a bunch of praise from everyone on my choice. Highly recommend!!"

  • "Our wobbly table was attended to (thank you) and became unstable again within a few minutes. When asked for a wine list the waiter replied there was none but he could tell us the kinds of wines available! What!?! Minestrone was okay but the kale salad dressing had enough vinegar to shine my hair. Filet of sole was poorly trimmed and served with dark edges. The sauce was a thick lemon flavored goo with capers. The accompanying string beans were nicely cooked but whatever coated them remains a tasteless mystery. Ice cream sandwich desert was yummy but the layers in the pear tart were indistinguishable. And why was a spoon the utensil I received with this instead of a desert fork?"

  • "Terrific service, but the food was meh. Overly tart lemon kale salad and grilled calamari drowning in oil By far the best dish of the night was pasta ala matriciana. Excellent biscotti and other cookies closed the meal. So sad though, because Il Cantinori used to be Italian in NYC at its best:("

  • "Perhaps this place has seen better days, but was I ever disappointed. An uncreative menu stuck in 1982 is one thing: If it's well-executed with fresh ingredients, then I can live with it. But this simply wasn't. The appetizer -- of a portobello mushroom -- was pretty decent. The "sauce" brought out for the bread was ... odd. A spaghetti sauce to dip your bread in? I've never seen such a thing; seemed a poor imitation of bruschetta. As for the main course: a rubbery, ill-prepared cod (that tasted frozen). What you could taste of it anyway! Mostly I just tasted more spaghetti sauce, which the fish was swimming in. Dessert was good. Drinks were standard-issue. Bill was overpriced. If you want a red-sauce joint, find a better one."

  • "Our family enjoyed our meal very much. We went there for my husband's birthday. The server was wonderful, especially in accommodating our teen daughter, who is a very picky eater. My only recommendation is that the restaurant should have some additional dishes available that are kid-friendly, i.e., plain pasta, sauces, cheese ravioli and chicken parm, or something similar. All in all, I would return in a heartbeat, as the experience was wonderful."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Il Cantinori as a result of a great waiter, terrific food, a nice large round corner table in the back room, great wines and a good atmosphere. The menu selections were very broad and many of the members in our party had trouble picking what to have - a good thing! Each course was outstanding and we were all very happy with the meal... hard to recommned any specific dishes since all were great! Even though the food was excellent, most notable, however, was the service, which was attentive without being overbearing, and our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and hard working-- we would definitely recommend Il Cantinori"

  • "The dishes we ate were absolutely divine! Started with insalata caprese then for my main course I had the pappardelle alla buttera. It was SOOO delicious! We also ordered one of the specials for the evening, the rabbit, which also came with little sausages and your choice of pasta. It was all such a great experience and very romantic with the dim lighting. It's a small restaurant, as are almost all in NYC, so the tables are a little close together but I didn't even notice because I was enjoying myself so much!"

  • "Went there for a first date and it was absolutely amazing. The Moscato was delicious, the pasta was to die for and was a perfectly sized portion. Enough to make you sufficiently full without hating yourself. The bread and tomato sauce was good. The tiramisu and sorbet were divine. The service was great plus all the waiters have thick authentic italian accents which sorta made me feel like I wss in italy. It's definitely expensive but very well worth the price."

  • "Ambience is fit for a sophisticated occasion or date night. Looks small from the front, but they have a big back room with a vaulted glass ceiling - very beautiful. We had a group of 9 and the service was great - waiter was funny and polite. The food came out promptly, wine glasses were always topped off. Food was good, just good.The menu seemed limited, but I assume it was because it changes according to season/market availability. Some dishes were on the smaller side (ravioli) and some were plentiful (boar fettuccine) so it was hit or miss. I had the duck which very deliciously tender, but only came with italian beans and was missing some sort of sauce. Grilled calamari appetizer was the best dish that night - fresh/fragrant/perfect char."

  • "have been there before when it's been great. this was mediocre at best. pretty clear from the get go that priority #1 was to turn the table over. better if you just let us know up front what time you need it. food was average. veal ossobucco special not cooked anywhere near as long as needed to be. it's a friday night during holiday season: plan a menu that can be executed. reservation request was to sit in the front room. sat in a corner in the back. why bother making requests if it's going to be ignored?"
