This was our third time at Il Canale and we are never disappointed! We always request the outdoor seating upstairs which makes the evening that much more festive and it's fun choosing from over a dozen individual pizzas… each one better than the next! You can't go wrong! Delicious!

I am italian living in the US since long time. Il Canale is a REAL italian restaurant!! Outstanding food, outstanding service !! I can swear, Il Canale is much far better than many restaurants and pizzerias back to Italy. Please, don't go there if you think that "fettuccine Alfredo" is an italian food or if you expect to have "spaghetti" as side dish. Il Canale is THE italian restaurant indeed! Highly raccomended!

The service was good but the atmosphere and the food was not as great as compare to price. The noodles from the pasta was hard and the sauce was bland. The restaurant was small, at first we were seated right by the stiarway, where it was really inconveint because I was wearing a skirt, and I had to becareful because people who were coming up could see beneath our table. Therefore we moved to different table. The server was very nice to move us. If the food and the seats were more comfortable, I will come again, but the food wasn't too great!

We're from California moving our daughter to Arlington for school. Our hotel had recommended a different Italian Restaurant, but my daughter and I decided to try Il Canale....OMG! It is our new favorite restaurant! We tried their meatballs as an appetizer, shared a pasta dish and had their amazing pizza. We still talk about this dinner. We will be returning over and over again, We'll be bringing family and friends. This place is a gem.

Best pizza outside of Italy (maybe ever better) and the other foods are great too. We had appetizers of Calamari & Zucchini and Polpette (meatballs) both of which were great. For mains we had pizza, eggplant parmigiana and bistecca which were equally as good. Everything is authentic right down to the waiters. Go and enjoy!

The restaurant is very noisy. Our waiter was not very good at managing his time between tables. And he took umbrage when I ordered 2 desserts to share for 3 people and asked for 3 plates. He wanted to know why I asked for the plates. I explained that the last time we had dinner at Il Canale and ordered desserts to share we didnot receive plates and had to wait for them. Supposedly folks from the Italian Embassy come here -- but the restaurant is overrated. There is no warm, gracious atmosphere. It's my third time there, and probably my last .

I made a reservation beforehand (6 years in the industry taught me to always have reservations on Saturday nights) and they sat us right by the stair to go to the bar. Though the table placement was definitely cramped (more of an add-on), the food and service more than made up for it. I didn't even have a chance to look through the wine book (not list) before our appetizer came. Even my picky eater of a mom (it was her birthday dinner) loved it. Summary: weird placement of tables, wonderful food (Gnocchi and pasta), wonderful wine, and full of people who love to eat, drink, and enjoy. Definitely one of my favorites- I'll be back!

We really enjoyed our meals, the food was delicious. The service was quite good too. The kitchen was also very accommodating for special requests, which I really appreciated. But, I didn't expect the restaurant to have large screen TVs going. I thought the menu choices indicated a classier place. Not only that, but the TVs were showing boxing. Not something I'd ever want to watch, especially during dinner. Please consider getting rid of the TVs.

Everything was great about Il Canale! I got a pizza and it was delicious. The service was quick, we were in and out in less than an hour. The menu had numerous good things to pick from and it is located just off the main path of entertaining Georgetown. It is midway between the main street and the water, so the perfect place to stop after a day of shopping before we head down to catch the sunset by the water. The environment was fresh, good lighting. Would definitely eat again!

The ambiance in the restaurant is bustling but quaint and comfortable. The outside terrace is great when the weather is good. I had a pasta dish with shrimp that was delicious. My friend had the gnocci and raved about it. We both had a side salad full of fresh veggies but the dressing was a bit bland. The wine was also good...served in an 8oz portion so you won't need to order a second unless you're drinking up quickly ;-)

I love the pizza at In Canale, and have also enjoyed some of the pastas. However, several things this about this restaurant have consistently disappointed me: their salads are tasteless, the service is mediocre and I never get a table in a location that's comfortable or pleasant. This last time I made a reservation well in advance and hoped for a table outside on the terrace. I understand that they cannot guarantee an outside table, but a table next to the busy service station and near the restrooms, with inadequate room for the chairs for our party of 3, was downright offensive. The next time we try this restaurant I better get a decent table, or I'll probably settle for pizza at some less heralded restaurant after that.

I have been to Il Canale at least six times and I will keep going back because they have the best pizza in DC. That being said, every time I go I am disappointed by the service. The servers are always rushing you to order before they even ask you if you want something to drink and very rarely check on you once you get your food. The one time I went there with a large group they clearly couldn't handle it and took forever just to get drinks. If you're going there for dinner make sure to have a reservation or be prepared to wait.

Great food, excellent service. I made a note with my OpenTable reservation that I had a very special 12 year old guest who I needed to impress, and would appreciate them treating her like a VIP. They certainly did. When she arrived, she was acknowledged as their most important guest of the day. They sent our table bruschetta, and at the end of our meal, she was served cannolis on a plate that said "You are awesome!" Foodwise - very good pizza. My young guest her entire margarita pizza, and her mom and I split the tuna salad and a pizza with zucchini, spinach, and prosciutto. Tuna salad was fair, but we expected something with more green. I'd order the house salad next time and will try their pasta.

We enjoyed Il Canale very much. The service was great and the food even better. We ordered the mozzarella and tomato appetizer, which was a perfect portion size to share. Next we had the pizza Margarite. This reminded me so much of the pizza we enjoyed in Italy! Will definitely go back next time we are in the DC area just for the pizza! The table next to us had an order of meatballs that looked too good to resist, so we had an order too, with some bread for getting all the last bits of sauce. So yummy! And I must mention the light, crisp Italian wine that our server recommended…perfect for a hot summer evening after exploring DC all day. I really wanted to get the cannoli for dessert. Next time. Grazie Il Canale!

Ordered the seafood pasta and the build-your-own Neapolitan pizza; both were delicious. Being from Toronto, I was surprised that you can build your own Neapolitan pizza, since most of the Neapolitan pizza places in TO forbids you to do so, reason being that their chef knows best, and one best to obey their knowledge of food pairing and must not alter the ingredient list to ruin the authentic taste. Now I know those TO restos are just full of bull manure. I digress, loved the food here, service was too notch. Will definitely visit again if in DC.
