Il Buco Alimentari & Vineriagreat place to go for an excellentgreat place to go for an excellent festive meal or a small dinner where you want a vibrant atmosphere
food is quite good and service is excellent5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeIl Buco Alimentari was truly spectacular. Warm setting, and the gnocchi with mushrooms and the short ribs were world class. Food doesn't get any better than this!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and creativeMy sister hates Italian food but she loved il buco. The dishes are inventive, flavorful, and tasty. Not to be outdone by every other hip spot, ramps are rampant on the menu. The only thing that was disturbing was the level of smoke in the air. My eyes started to burn towards the end of our meal. I left smelling like the Italian version of Korean BBQ. Despite this, I would definitely go back to il buco!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredibleWent for a friends birthday. The food was amazing. The most authentic Italian food I have ever had in the US and in some places even in Italy. Will definitely go back!
Major treat!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBest New Dining in A Long TimeWhat a delight. Great restaurant, great scene. Can't wait until I get back.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMItaly in NohoGreat spot for grazing on salumi, cheeses and
Pasta
Italian wines and crunchy breads make it a meal
Whole Bronzino is perfect as are salads5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe porchetta is a dream :)This was the second time I dined at Il Buco. Just as good or maybe even better this time! Great selection of wines and every bit of food is to die for. My favorites are: Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, and the Porchetta! But everything was delicious.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic dinner at the barFantastic dinner at the bar with Jessie, the bartender.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIl Buco A&VGreat ambience, great food, great wine list. Was seated about 15 minutes after our reservation, and was given a seat at the bar. Would've expected a proper seating, but it 8:30 on a Saturday so I suppose they were quite busy.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMRespect.Dining is all about an experieince. The point is to enjoy food that you wouldn't or couldn't make for yourself at home. Respect for the food, quality and care, is the halmark of fine dining. Food at Il Buco shows LOTS of respect.
Service is again a matter of respect. Everpresent, but not in your face. Wine selection (counselling) is not a test of knowledge or an opportunity for a sommellier to show off. The front of house has the right attitude to care and attention of the dining guests, with the utmost respect.
The ambiance is relaxed, informal and has a casual comfort only in appearance. I understand it to be unitimidating and allow the diner to take pleasure in the food an service.
All to be said, Il Buco wins my respect.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat authentic trattoriaSo good...dreaming of the crispy artichokes, the bucatini, and the orichietti....oh and of course the salumi!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousThe food was devine. No complaints!! There were 4 of us and everyone was happy with the choices. Pasta was outstanding.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat experience!I went for my birthday dinner with my family and had a really great time. Beautiful setting, very lively and hip inside but not too loud to overwhelm them. Amazing pasta dishes all around - we tried 4 different types to share and a number of appetizers, really delicious all around. Next time we will definitely be ordering an entree as well - we were perfectly full from what we ordered but sitting near the kitchen, we saw far too many go out to pass up next time. Highly recommend!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFANTASTIC!AMAZING...always! This restaurant never disappoints.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our dinner...We really enjoyed our dinner... We just love love Il buco.. Great food, laid back and great atmosphere!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food and serviceFantastic food and service (Cody Steele was great! as was the brussel sprouts salad!)4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMone of my top five favoriteone of my top five favorite restaurants in NYC - and that's saying a lot in a city of a million good restaurants4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIl Buco Alimentari & VineriaIl Buco Alimentari & Vineria continues to be one of Manhattan's best restaurants. It's noisy but the food is delicious. We sat at the bar which was very comfortable. We were full after 5 appetizers and contorni without any main course. The dessert was also delicious.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall great. A bit noisy,Overall great. A bit noisy, and the one hostess was unfriendly and abrupt, but the rest of the staff were great. The food is excellent.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOther then that they keptOther then that they kept us waiting 30 minutes post reservation time for a table in a misereable claustiphobic area, very nice .4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent. PortionsThe food was excellent. Portions were generous without overindulging, and the service was attentive and our waiter knowledgable and efficient.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAll enjoyable. Short ribsAll enjoyable. Short ribs just a little too much fat content. I'll return4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere! We sat atGreat atmosphere! We sat at the bar and had great evening. The food was outstanding!! The artichokes were beyond delicious and everything we ordered was amazing!! We felt like we were on a side street in Rome, but better!! So happy to find such a gem4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is why I live in New York.Spectacular in every way. I am running out of friends to bring for a new experience. The fish! Oh my, the branzino! The staff is lovely, the vibe is fun and the ambiance is great.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious pastas. ServiceDelicious pastas. Service was prompt and friendly. If it wasn't for the fact that it was so noisy, this would be an excellent place to go all the time.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food but it's veryExcellent food but it's very loud on the 2nd floor!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love bringing lifelongWe love bringing lifelong New York friends for Il Buco's wonderful food and service. Every single person we've introduced to Il Buco walks out the door saying they cannot wait to return with other friends. We have great memories and fun, too, from dining there.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHow can one complain aboutHow can one complain about to overcrowded entrance and hostesses that demonstrate favoritism over first-timers with reservations when the food is so outrageously tasty. Short ribs & fried artichokes are as other reviewers stated - simply fabulous.
While short rib serving was huge, the pasta serving should have been about 20% larger since some of us are there for the pasta!
A busy, somewhat noisy restaurant often signals good things but with hardwood floors, brick walls and shared tables with other diners, the noise level was a distraction from the fine food and may be a question should I think about returning.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is wonderful andThe food is wonderful and staff is very nice- especially for such a busy restaurant Great menu! And very well designed.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for food, not communal diningThe food is outstanding in quality, authenticity, and taste. My only reason for giving it an overall less than five stars is the unexpected long table (communal) seating which provides no privacy in dining. On the other hand it is quite lively.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was absolutely delicious,The food was absolutely delicious, the ambiance terribly charming, and the service quite accommodating. I was transported right back to Italy!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food - Bad SeatingI understand it's a busy restaurant, however if I go through the process of making a reservation I expect to be seated at a table with a chair that has a back to it - Not a bar & a bar stool for 2 hours. Now, the area was very nice and the food amazing, however a heads up should be given in the reservation process. I understand it's a lot of communal tables so parties of 2 are hard to sit there, but I saw many parties of 2 spread out among them. Again, a heads up would be nice.
Our server was amazing. Friendly and smart. However we lost her for over 20 minutes while we waited for our dessert to arrive. We flagged down another server for the check. Our server realized the error and took desert and coffees off the bill. Good Recovery.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic DiningDining here was a high-energy experience. The food was fabulous, especially the ricotta, spaghetti bottarga and the porchetta. The waitstaff was outstanding and really treated us well. We can't wait to go back and try the short ribs.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent italian food. WeExcellent italian food. We tried three pasta dishes and the mushroom risotto. All were refined and perfectly cooked. Great service. Communal seating and charming decor.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen here for both dinnerBeen here for both dinner and brunch, and loved both. For brunch, the egg dishes are great, but their short rib and porchetta sandwiches are both amazing. Also, this past Sunday for brunch, I was the first one to arrive at a table of 10, and they let me sit at the table by myself, something that is becoming increasingly rare in the city.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBest braised Short Ribs everOne of the best spots in NYC. Friendly staff and fun menu with unique ingredient selections. Braised Short Ribs are unbelievable! Our waiter was attentive and very knowledgable. They even gave my wife and I free gelato tasting platter!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely restaurant, great breadLovely restaurant, great bread and authentic Italian olive oil! The kale minestrone was delicious and so was the home made ricotta! Went for brunch on Sunday, will definitely go back!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMJust as good as all the buzzJust as good as all the buzz says. Amazing short ribs, fantastic salumi. Great dinner.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant food, serviceThis restaurant food, service and ambience is so great, that we went for the first time on Wednesday and went back on Saturday to treat a special guest from out of town !!!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWow! Really impressed withWow! Really impressed with the cordiality and charm of the staff. A creative and interesting menu with choices for the most 'selective' eaters. Wine a bit pricey, but that's expected. Would like to see more ambitious desert selections. And, the chairs could be a more substantive. Overall, very good food, friendly and fun.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived early for our reservatioWe arrived early for our reservation and sat in the front area. We had wine and cheese and were very comfortable waiting for our table. We sat upstairs and everyone order pasta. Each dish was excellent- the Cacio & Pepe and Lasagna Bolognese were wonderful. We will add this is our list of great NYC restaurants!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experiance. Food outstandingGreat experiance. Food outstanding and all of the staff from the owner on down very friendly and spot on service. Would return there in a minute!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy stuffThe cured meats were not special, but items from the regular menu were both original in preparation and excellent in taste. My party enjoyed the razor clam ceviche and grilled sausage appetizers as well as the short ribs (amazing and huge) and rabbit. Eat upstairs if you can as it is a terrific room. One odd thing I found was that we were charged a nominal amount for our tables' basket of bread. I find that a bit unfortunate, especially when my party of 3 spent like we did on cocktails and wine...3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA touch of Italy .Such a great to feel like you are walking into an Enoteca in Italy. Noisy, busy, upbeat. Lots of different kinds of seating. Lots of bar areas to drink or eat at. Rustic decor and great food. Wonderful vibe. What more can I say . Loved it.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat room and lively scene,Great room and lively scene, rich ambiance. Food was inventive and beautifully presented. Impressive wine list. Super wait staff (even for a first time visitor).3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, tasteful & colorful.great food, tasteful & colorful. The portions are not big - especially the pasta - but you really want to try so many things that you end up very satisfied. not cheap though.2/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was tasty! TheEverything was tasty! The buccatoni was delicious. Service was very good and the portions were ample. Seasoning on all the dishes was excellent. Worth a visit. Make sure you have a reservation on the weekend.2/2/2013 12:00:00 AMgo. now!Love this place! decor is warm, inviting and cool. food is amazing and excellent service. has a great lunch and try the panna cotta for dessert. best I've ever had!1/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful restaurant withA wonderful restaurant with high energy, lots of young people relishing really good food, and a warm and friendly waitstaff. We ordered the artichokes and the salumi plate for 2--it was plenty for three people. We then shared a lasagnette pasta among the three of us--generous enough serving for three, perhaps the safest of the pasta choices, and it only made us want more! Finally we had the short ribs--absolutely outstanding, transforms your conception of short ribs--and the rabbit, which was fun and good, way exceeding your average rabbit course. Very generous entree portions. We ended with gelato--the salted caramel is terrific.
For groups, it seems ideal. The menu seems designed for sharing, and the communal tables are great.1/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal. UnusuallyExcellent meal. Unusually simple but expertly prepared Italian.11/24/2012 12:00:00 AM
