Pear, walnut & Gorgonzola cheese salads are on many menus so what makes Il Bosco different? Real dolce Gorgonzola just like Italy as is the atmosphere, service & menu. The owners are there overseeing all aspects of your dining. The wine list is excellent & advice is always available if you ask. We have always had wonderful food & service. Il Bosco is just the right size not too big and NOT noisy as are so many restaurants today. If u have never been. Make a reservation today

Good ambiance and service. My veal piccata had way too much sauce. My wife had the gnocchi (small dish) which still was too much to eat and also had too much sauce. Inside room temperature was cold. There is an attractive outside dining area under cover. The wine list is almost entirely Italian. White linen table cloths changed for each diner. Good place for a hot date.

  • Northern Italian Cuisine??

Il Bosco, once the clear top purveyor of Northern Italian cuisine has fallen into the the garlic trap, certainly not northern Italian. The restaurant smells like and food tastes like garlic everywhere. Very disappointing unless you are a garlic lover, and clearly many are. But it is as clearly not northern Italian cuisine any longer which rarely uses much garlic. All of the service staff and owner are totally pleasant, attentive and wonderful, and the ambiance is the best north of Charlotte.

My most favorite place to eat! I have never ordering anything I absolutely didn't love. For appetizer the mussels a must, to go with the homemade bread for dipping and when the season permits the octopus! You can't go wrong with any of the homemade pasta dishes as well as the rest of the entrees all with fresh seasonal ingredients! Everything is well planned out by the Chef. The wine selection is also very nice with a nice recommendation available if needed. The family and staff all round out the entire dining pleasure to an absolute must! Reservations are highly recommended.

In addition to having outstanding food this restaurant has made a point to have some distance between tables. The décor also absorbs noise rather than amplifying it as most restaurants seem to do these days. It is so nice to be able to have a conversation with your tablemates while enjoying a great meal with great service.

My wife and I had dinner here on Friday night - we'd been looking forward to trying for some time. Having moved recently from Boston, we are anxious to find good Italian food in the area. Cozy atmosphere, service and food were ok, not great. We ordered a caprese salad at the recommendation of the waitress, the chef forgot the basal and they didn't bring any even after we mentioned it. I had a veal dish which was good, my wife had a chicken dish which was also good - the food took over 40 minutes to arrive after ordering. The menu is ala carte and a side of potatoes were $6 - they were mixed with cheese and leeks and very good. 2 dinners, 1 salad, 1 glass of wine and $85 - it costs more than I thought it worth. I will try again though.

First time here. Started with the cheese plate. Really nice, 4 cheeses, sauces, etc. They also start you with this delicious bread and bean combination. Beans in olive oil to spread on the bread, fabulous. For entrees, my daughter and myself got the fettuccine with mushrooms in a creamy tomato sauce. It was great and came out piping hot. My wife ordered the chicken which she liked a lot. They also give you a few cookies to end the meal. We also ordered kale, which was sauteed and drizzled with olive oil, and the mashed potatoes. All the food was excellent, tasty and the service here is second to none.

Food was great and so was the service. I will be back to try pasta dishes. Making reservations was simple. I also appreciate the special request that I put in for dessert and candle for my girlfriends birthday. I didn't have to remind anyone. Thank you so much for great service and food. My girlfriend really enjoyed her birthday dinner. -Paul-

Disappointed that the menu had just changed and we couldn't get the grilled octopus app we were looking forward to, but were quite pleased with the duck comfit app instead. Very nice salad selection. I would recommend splitting a salad for two people having apps and mains as they are generous portions. The wine list was wholly Italian, but a nice selection with knowledgeable staff. The staff was friendly with just the right level of attentiveness. Both veal dishes were quite good. We noted on our Saturday visit that many tables were repeat customers that the staff knew quite well. We too would recommend this restaurant and will return.

We had no idea Il Bosco had been open for 3 years! Boy have we been missing out. The hardest part of dinner was deciding what to have as there were so many great choices. They have just switched over to their early fall menu. We opted for the Italian sausage with creamy polenta appetizer -- wonderful. My husband had the duck with a side of carmelized leek mashed potatoes and I had the Gnocchi Butterra. Both were excellent. I ate the leftovers for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day! We'll be back very soon.

We have dined in this restaurant at least five times in the past six months. WE have brought four different couples to dine with us and each time the service has been progressively worse. Extremely slow, despite the fact that they were not crowded. It is such a shame, especially since the slow service detracts from the quality food, and makes everything appear substandard. All of our guests, subsequently have complained to a point where it would be difficult to recommend, or bring visiting guests there again. The people are friendly, and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, they either do not care, or do not realize how poor the service has become.

Excellent. While we had a rather a staple for Italian restaurants, clams with linguini, the clams were very fresh and the broth complementary, not overpowering nor weak. Our wine choice came with a personal story from the owner about the winemaker . We'll be back.

We had a truly enjoyable experience. The restaurant was very busy but quiet and romantic. The owner Jimmy picked a bottle of wine for us – Tignanello 2011. It was spectacular. The king prawn and arugula appetizer was amazing and my rib-eye cooked perfectly the way I like it – medium rare. My wife had a great salad to start and the roasted salmon with capers, baby tomatoes and whole olives for dinner. We finished with a few home made pignoli cookies. Can’t wait to go back….

Our party of 4 was promptly seated and asked for our beverage choice. The wine list is adequate with Italian wine prominent. The food service was timely with nice presentations. My only gripe was the warm bread with a bean and olive oil garish was a little late arriving at the table. Also, I would appreciate the management allowing guest's to provide their own wines with a corkage fee.

Intimate, yummy, and local are three things I look for in a restaurant and Il Bosco has them all. A great neighborhood place with good food and great service. Pearls not required, but the crowd looks and acts respectful to the fact that they are in a restaurant. Seems obvious, eh? But so many places don't have that vibe. Italian menu, and always some wonderful specials. Good wine list and a full bar. Davidson is a college town so the crowd can dwindle in the summer at most restaurants. On our recent visit, Il Bosco was almost full on a summer Friday night which speaks to its popularity. If you haven't visited yet, please do so! You'll enjoy a great meal and will be supporting a local business.

Elegant dining in a very cordial and comfortable atmosphere. Food was classic Italian--pastas, veal, chicken, duck, steak, fish--and the freshness of all ingredients was the crown on the delicious entrées. Creative and delicious appetizers as well as a dessert like no other I have ever tasted, really. The owner has been present and interacting with customers each time we have been there -- it's like dining in his personal dining room. It is evident that many customers were regulars. The wait staff is customer attentive without being intrusive. The wine list included California as well as Italian wines.
