Diner Reviews
  • "Best steaks in Austin. Great wine list. Great service. Will visit again."

  • "We clebrated our son's 25th birthday at III Forks this week and it was wonderful. Our server was attentive without hovering. The coctails were good and the wine with dinner was fantastic. The steaks were cooked to perfection. No one said a word about theirs being over or undercooked. We were all too busy eating the wonderful food. Thanks for a great experience. The only thing I could say is that we had to use flashlights on our phones to see the menu but that was kind of part of the ambiance."

  • "Had a fabulous time with my g/f on our 1 year anniversary. Service, food, and the management were all top notch. Would love to dine again. Note: Manager knowing it was our anniversary brought out a very nice alcoholic seasonal beverage free-of-charge. A+"

  • "I had business in Austin last week and asked around for a recommendation for a great steak. Several friends recommended III Forks. They did not steer me wrong. The steak was perfect and included very tasty sides (unlike most upper end steak houses). It was a classic traditional steak house with nice unobtrusive live jazz and a solid wine list. I've also done Eddie V's, Sullivan's and Perry's on prior trips to Austin and frankly you can't lose with any of them, but for the money, III Forks should be on your list."

  • "We came during a visit to Austin and were staying at a nearby hotel so this was convenient and had good reviews so we decided to splurge and go for a nice meal. We came on the late side, only to find the restaurant pretty much empty (maybe 3 other tables there). By the time we were done, we were one of two tables left. And yet, we still had to wait for everything, including the bill. We weren't offered dessert (the other table was) so I assume they were trying to move us out, but the service was still slow. The food was very good. My burger was very good and my friend's steak was also very good. No complaints with the food at all, but the atmosphere was a little dead, and the service might be why."

  • "As usual, dining here was a pleasure. The food and service were perfect. I almost never eat dessert but can't resist it here. It's a great place to make someone feel special or just to enjoy an excellent meal."

  • "We were early for reservation and were treated grandly they seated us immediately. We were not rushed to free up table. We had a very enjoyable dinner. The food was excellent and cooked to our specifications. I will definitely choose this restaurant any time I am in downtown Austin"

  • "This restaurant is a fantastic restaurant - great food, great service, great ambience."

  • "I took my fiance her and had a great dinner and experience. The only things that I didn't like as much as every thing else was the creamed corn and the sweat pea medley, but I'm not a fan of creamed corn or greens. Charlie was a great server and the ambiance was perfect for our situation. There was a jazz band playing, the lighting was perfect, the service was friendly, and most importantly the food was great. We each had the filets, 12 oz. for me and 6 oz. for her, both cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was our first time here and we loved it!!"

  • "We went on a Saturday night. There was a singer in the bar, her was really good. The restaurant was sour smelling when you walk in the door. We had a reservation for 2, they sat us in a booth which had place settings for 4. The hostess was reaching around us to pick up the other 2 settings. Clanking the glasses and silverware as she went. Could've cared less we were sitting there, just sloppy. The Tomahawk Ribeye was the only thing besides the bread and the server that we really enjoyed. Lobster bisque was dark and had a burned taste. The Shrimp was way overcooked and dark as well. For $240.00 it just wasn't up to par on what you'd expect."

  • "I took my fiancé here for her birthday and it was the best meal Ive ever had. The steaks were amazing along with the sides. The service was on point.( I never had to fill my wine glass myself, nor did I have to ask). Wonderful atmosphere, very romantic. "

  • "The service at III Forks was outstanding. My wife and I went for our anniversary. We mentioned that to the hostess, in passing. All night, the wait staff and even restaurant management acknowledged the special occasion. They were so pleasant and loved to talk about the food. it's nice when the wait staff is really proud of what they serve. On top of that, the food was outstanding - don't miss the bone-in ribeye steak. Perfection!"

  • "The service was amazing by the manager and the wait staff. The food was very good for a steakhouse, but I did not give it more stars as it wasn't more special than any others. The desert and the lobster macaroni were not special, but our main courses were quite good."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "The ambience was rich and distinctive yet comfortable. Each course was excellent in quality and quantity. The best surprise was the additional offering of fresh corn and beef steak tomatoes with our entree. Wow! I can't wait to go back!!!"

  • "I love this place! My mom flys in about 1-2 times a year and this is always the place she requests to go in Austin. The whole experience is always amazing. I highly recommend and have recommended this place to all friends and family."

  • " We had the steak and lobster, both were cooked to perfection. Crab cakes were amazing also! Will definitely go again. "

  • "All was excellent from the service to the steaks. The place is dark in a prestigious way, not musty or dated. Prices only slightly above peers and worth it."

  • "Took my wife and 6 year old to 3 Forks for dinner on Mother's day. Limited menu, but staff was able to accommodate our off-menu requests. Restaurant was a bit dark...no windows and very dim lighting, but really wasn't a huge factor. Plates which the meals came on were EXTREMELY hot, and made it a bit awkward to eat, but again wasn't a huge factor. Staff catered nicely toward my wife and child. Actually giving my daughter a high five toward the end of the meal. Manager dropped off a Mother's day red rose which was a nice add to the experience."

  • "Normally we love a "steak" restaurant for our family with two kids 16 and 18, They love steak, but mother's day at IIIForks was not up to par. I ordered med rare and it was over done and my son ordered medium (looking for pink throughout as the waiter said) but it was grey and he said too hard to cut or chew. No one asked us how the steaks were. Not the best experience for us in Austin, we'll go to others next time."

  • "First, we were seated and did not receive any attention from wait staff for twenty-five minutes. The water girl came by three or four times before our waitress acknowledged that we were in her section. Second, our entrees were not enjoyable. Three out of four of us got the beef tenderloin that was steaming hot as if it was just broiled, too hot to eat or to enjoy the taste. Also, I had to send mine back the first time since the beef was purple, when I ordered medium. Then, when my entree came back, it was even hotter and overcooked. I'd like to note here that I am not picky about my steak preparation, it was just way off here. "

  • "We went to III Forks for our anniversary. The food was amazing. Best filet I have had in a long time and love that sides are included. The III Forks and Wedge salads were also great. Our server was one of the best we have ever had. Highly recommend going! "

  • "Each time we come here we are reminded of what a wonderful restaurant and dining experience it is at III Forks. This time my wife had the Scallops and I had the Chilean Sea Bass and both were excellent."

  • "A group of us were down in Austin for a bachelor party and decided to do a nice dinner out on the first night. We were not disappointed. We got the Tuna appetizer, and the dressing on the salad was very good. The Ribeye, Bone-in-Filet, and the New York Strip were all cooked perfectly. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable of the food and drink menus. Definitely worth the money."

  • "Food was outstanding, service was good, table stuck in a back room that looked like a converted storeroom - killed the evening and our anniversary dinner. Will not likely return."

  • "We had a lovely time. They had a jazz artist sing, which a delight for us. The food was delicious!!!! It cam out like the had just made it for us. Nice and hot. We will be coming back. "

  • "This place is good for groups. I expected more than what I originally thought. I liked the one in Dallas better. The food is not all there. At a restaurant like III Forks, I was not expecting that you have other foods on the plate. Usually everything is separated and at the center for you to serve. "

  • "This was a special visit to III Forks as our children gave us a treat to visit a Texas Steak House. We are here from Bangor Maine to meet our first grandchild. The restaurant was lovely, with elegent finishings. The food was very good and satisfying. Our waitress was second to none and attended to all our needs. I must also complement the other staff members on their professionalism and attention to detail. My only negative is that there was a private party in the room next to our table and they were standing very near by discussing business and other issues. I wish we had a table more out of the way. "

  • "I like fine dining, and I love a yummy steak even more. Decided to RSVP at this restaurant from reading all the reviews here and other sites. Very busy intersection/location, but food worth it! My husband & I got sat at a table instead of at one of multiple empty booths, but decided not to push it. Our server greeted us and was very polite and professional--nothing extraordinary, though. We ordered the food, and when it arrived, I had some mixed feelings on the presentation. But one bite of my steak and I was in love! The steak (ribeye) was very flavorful and tender--just delicious! The cheesecake is outstanding--one of the best I've tasted. The orange mandarin cake was also very delicious! "

  • "Nice, fairly traditional look with live music that did not drown out conversation even though we were only 30 feet from the band We went with steaks all of which were perfectly cooked ranging from Rare-Mid Rare. Unlike most high end Steak houses you also get 3 sides and they are very good. The skin on mashed potatoes were excellent, the creamed corn was superb and I don't even like creamed corn, I did understand the tomato and green onion side. Would recommend their excellent burrata and tomato appetizer. The only negative for the whole night was the creamed spinach, they leave the leaves whole which end up being just a creamy mess. Overall, not a Peter Luger steak but one of the top 3 or 4 steak houses I have ever been too."
