    Our regular menu is not available for VALENTINES EVE dinner. Ichiban will be offering a fantastic set menu dinner cooked teppanyaki style for Valentines. The dinner includes filet mignon, lobster and teriyaki chicken with a shrimp appetizer, clear chicken broth vegetable soup, and a cucumber salad with kani-kama. Fried rice is included. White chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream will be served for dessert. All this for only $50 + tax + 18% gratuity per person. We hope to see you for VALENTINES!

  • Special Events & Promotions: Our regular menu is not available for Valentine's Evening. That night we offer a set menu dinner cooked teppanyaki style for $60 ++ tax ++ 18% gratuity. The dinner features our clear chicken broth vegetable soup, cucumber salad with crabmeat, shrimp appetizer, steamed or fried rice, and steamed vegetables. The entree is a combination of filet mignon, lobster and teriyaki chicken. For dessert we will be serving white chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream. A vegetarian dinner is available for $40. Childrens' dinners are $30. This is a night you won't want to miss!

  • Public Transit: The light rail stops between 4th and 5th on Nicollet. We are at 1333 Nicollet.

  • Parking Details: We do not offer validated parking. There is a public ramp for the Hyatt Hotel directly across the street from our entrance and a ramp available to the public for the Millenium Hotel next door to our restaurant. Both ramps charge $7 for the evening after 4pm.
A word from Ichiban Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar – Minneapolis
Ichiban features the 5000 year old method of Japanese cooking where chefs skillfully prepare the dinner at your table. "Iron cooking" or Teppanyaki is the heart of our cuisine. Our Teppanyaki chefs are wizards of the knife, each with their own style and showmanship. Ichiban also features an all you can eat for one hour sushi bar every night of the week. A full bar is available with beer, wine, liquor and sake. The main floor is handicap accessible, so please request if needed. Happy hour specials are available Monday thru Friday in the bar. Enjoy specials on beer, wine, sake and several appetizers and types of sushi in a quiet atmosphere. We also have Early Bird specials, including a discount on the sushi bar every day of the week and discounts on Teppanyaki meals Sunday through Friday. All special deals are from 4:30 to 6:00pm.




Reservations are only for teppanyaki and are not available in the sushi bar.

The chef was a riot and constantly playing with our six year old and two four year olds (As well as the two other families at our 12 top table). They were all mesmerized by his knife skills and tricks as well. Great value for a two hour dining experience. Everybody went home with a doggy bag."

  • "This was like the 6 or 7th time I have been to Ichibans. I love the food, I really like the atmosphere. My favorite part though is being entertained by the chef. Since the my first time experience, it seems like the 8 table around the chef ambiance has changed. The chef's are not as (for lack of a better word) "entertaining" as they once were. But high marks on their skill and the restaurant's delicious food and drinks. Oh, one other thing, I am not a fan of liver, so I usually decline their chicken liver. I took the substitute appetizer. What happened to their chicken wings? I don't recall them being "spiced" before. Oh well, I could be wrong. Overall, I had a great time."

  • "Good food and a great experience, but be sure you have plenty of time and don't arrive on a super-empty belly. You'll get plenty of food and have a good time watching them prepare it, but it takes about 45 minutes to get any food in your belly and about 1 1/2 hours for the full experience from arrival to finish."

(At least, not for a couple's date night) I had assumed that we'd be given the option to have a private table but was surprised to find out that we were seated with 7 complete strangers, including 3 children under age 10. I noticed later that there were no private tables in sight. I felt sort of like we were part of a huge assembly line....get 'em in, get 'em fed, get 'em out. Ichiban is very over-priced with poor, unauthentic, and at times, non-existent customer service. Food was edible, NOT great. The hibatchi chef was semi-entertaining (although his schtick was rehashed from the adjacent table that he'd just come from). The sushi was substandard. For $100, I expect quite a bit more."

  • "What started as a an evening of fun was soured upon entering the restaurant by the male host that greeted us. He was condescending, and did not offer any warm greeting, - it was as if he considered it our privilege to be there, rather his privilege to be serving us - our entire party of 7 experienced him the same way. We came in very joyous and happy after seeing the musical "Once", and the host poured cold water on us!. The young woman who seated us was very nice, and it seemed like even she was embarrassed for the behavior of her boss. Our server at the table was exceptionally attentive. Our chef was competent and pleasant. They use chicken liver appetizers as a bait and switch item; if you switch to any other you pay $4 to $6 extra."

  • "I reserved a table for three adults and was seated with a family with two children. It was my friend's birthday as was the little girl in the family. The little girl didn't seem too happy and was rather crabby and needed so much attention it was quite annoying to say the least. I think you probably know my suggestion not to seat adults trying to have a nice dinner without little children at the same table while the child is having a tantrum because she did not get what she wanted isn't a great combination. It would have been a better experience without the children drama."

I saw our whole table looking longingly at the other chefs around us. They were fun!The food itself was good, I LOVED the dipping sauces. They were all very good. The liver/onion appetizer was not good. I think they should just take that off the menu. The cucumber salad was really good - I enjoyed that. I ordered the steak and chicken. My steak was not done enough but the chicken had a great flavor. We had a party of 4 and our gratuity was automatically added on which I didn't like but I ended up tipping less than I normally would because it was automatically added."

At 8:17, we had not even received our soup. At 8:40, still no chef, we were just getting our appetizer. After having spent $21 on 4 beers for my husband and I, we should have left also and cut our losses. FINALLY, our chef showed up after WELL over an hour of sitting and waiting and watered down broth that was passed off as "soup". Our chef had little entertainment value to him other than clanging some salt shakers together, tossing a bowl of rice in the air and saying, "Japanese Ketchup" as he poured teriyaki sauce over rice. Finally left at 10:10. What a waste of $186.00"

  • "A Japanese Steakhouse with a 30 year history that believes in selecting quality ingredients to serve. When compared to their newer competitors the quality of the food served stands far above the competitors. The layout is a bit more cozy and in many ways more intimate than the competitors with the hibachi stations arranged in a more random pattern than the typical rows and columns layout. The service staff is friendly, but can become busy with other customers just when you would like something. The Hibachi chef's come from a diverse set of ethnic backgrounds. I would prefer that rather than try to imitate the standard Hibachi chef that they look for ways to personalize the experience with the customers."

  • "Had a 7:00 Rez on a Friday to celebrate a birthday. 6 of us got there about 10 min early and was told our party of 7 couldn't be seated unless everyone was there unless we ordered for our 7th, although she was 5 minutes away. At 7 the host said they needed more time. 20 minutes we waited in the lobby no one came by to offer a drink. Two hosts and a server stood at the host stand doing nothing while our party waited. The teppanyaki chef made a good effort to be entertaining, although courses were oddly served--we sat with plates of cooked vegetables cooling down when 10-15 minutes later the main protein was served. We thought it would be fun for our celebration but was an expensive let down. They add 18% gratuity to bill."

  • "The cook was very nice and kept a smile even when he was constantly dropping things. He tried hard, but when his spatula came flying at us, it wasn't so much fun anymore. I must give my props to him though as he was probably one of the most congenial servers I've had. Do not look up at the ceiling. Clearly there has been water damage and all I could think about was, "If this is how the dining room looks, what about the kitchen?" I could also feel crusted food on my chair. Ick."

Teens and up seem to especially enjoy the show. The multicourse meal is filling and uses good quality ingredients. The price may seem high, but is less then dinner and a movie."

  • "My wife and I came here for her birthday dinner for our two kids. We were sent over to the hibachi area even though she really wanted to be at the sushi bar and was more interested in that. While the restaurant has unique decor and ambiance, it also is a bit worn and my wife thought it wasn't as clean as she would like. Our waitress was fairly attentive but she did not bring the free green tea that is supposed to come with each meal. Our cook did a decent job with preparing the meals with some flair since the cooking is part of the entertainment. The food was just so-so. I've had just as good of hibachi at places in the suburbs that didn't nearly cost as much as Ichiban does. Skip this place in lieu of closer fare."

  • "I made my reservation for 9:30 on Valentines day. We arrived at 9:30 and were told that they were a little behind schedule and that we would have to wait. We did not get seated until a bit after 10:00. We were givin a soup and salad, but our chef did not come out until nearly 10:40. This was upsetting as it was late dinner to begin with, and we were now not getting our meal until nearly 11. The food itself was amazing and the chef was a lot of fun and was very welcoming. I have not had this issue before, but the nearly hour and a half wait to get food was definitely unsettling."

I will never go here again unless it was about half the price, even then it would be questionable. It did not meet my expectations, and they are not that high at any means.I could of went to Osaka and had the same or better experience for around $70."

  • "I went with my 3 teenage sons for dinner. All 4 of us drank water. We had steak and lobster ($38), steak and salmon ($30) , steak and shrimp ($30), steak and chicken ($29). Flavor-wise it was no better than any other Hibachi place I have been to. It includes an appetizer of chicken liver, which they so kindly allow you to substitute any edible appetizer for 1/2 price avg $4-$5. "Hey, here is some nasty chicken liver. If you don't want this, pay another $5 per person and an addtl $4 per person for fried rice." All told, tab was $175. $40 tip (yes, I overtip), $2 coat check, and $8 for parking. We will never be back. I feel ripped off and like a total idiot for spending over $200 on a meal I could have got anywhere in town for less than $100."
