A word from Ibby's - Washington University
Ibby's is nestled at the heart of the campus of Washington University in St. Louis in the Danforth University Center. The unique campus bistro offers foods that are simple, fresh and inspired by the seasons; focusing on regional products prepared with classical cooking techniques by Chef David Rushing.

With a focus on sustainable and locally-sourced ingredients, Ibby's offers a delightful, fresh, daily-changing buffet that encompasses all of your lunch needs, whether you have time for just a quick stop or a leisurely meal. During dinner hours, the seasonal menu includes soups, salads, starters, entreés, alcoholic beverages and coffee. Creative, house-made desserts are popular as well!

The space was named after Chancellor Emeritus William H. Danforth's late wife, Ibby, in honor of her dedication and support of WUSTL!

  • "The items on Ibby's menu are great, and the service has consistently impressed me. But I wish there were more options on the menu"

  • "Really great food and service in a come from the atmosphere right on campus."

  • "Everybody should go to Ibby's at least once. It's the best"

  • "Not one of my favorites. The last group I took there decided to go somewhere else when they saw the menu. There was only two of us today, so we did stay. The food was good, but just kind of weird."

  • "The waiters were very pleasant and attentive. The food was pretty good. The chicken dish was great, especially with the sauce. Even the breast meat was juicy and well seasoned and the skin was pleasantly crisp. The sides were okay - the quinoa dish (i think that is what the grain was) with orange was okay by itself as was the cobb salad, but tasting orange and bleu cheese in succession was a strange sensation. The soup was tasty though salty. The rice dish and the broccoli were very good. I think that this meal was not quite as good as most of the lunch buffets that I have had at Ibbys but all of my experiences have followed the trend of the protein being quite a bit better than the sides."

  • "We like to eat it Ibby's before we go to the Edison Theater. We had dinner for 5. Dinner was good. Server seemed frazzled. She knew we had theater tickets. After we waited more than 20 minutes for dessert, we told her to cancel the order. We were going to be late. Unfortunately, she took an attitude with us as if we had done something wrong."

  • "Obvious my food had been left under a heat lamp. Was soggy and gross. Did not enjoy. Need a new chef Ibby's used to be great but the past few times I've fine they've really messed up my food. The service is great. Food is lacking."

  • "Ibby's has become a valuable alternative to the faculty club for hosting visiting guests. The food is fresh and creative and it's nice to expose visitors to a mix of customers that includes undergraduate students."

  • "First time at this restaurant. We weren't sure whether it would be very good; it's located at the student center on the main campus of Washington University, so we thought that Ibby's might be a typical college-student sort of place. But it's not. It's a beautiful little restaurant, in a relatively quiet corner of the beautiful Danforth campus center, with a very good (but small) lunch menu and buffet, and attentive service. We'll have to go back and try it for dinner sometime."

  • "Very pleasant staff, food was good and service was excellent Pricey $$ for what it is."

  • "Delicious salads and sandwiches. Lunch buffet a good option for variety. Lot of university students and administrators so it can get noisy."

  • "Ibby's is wonderful. I have never been disappointed in the food or the service. Whether you're dining alone or with seven other people, Ibby's is a great place to spend an evening. And best of all, they take meal points! (Oh and if you do eat there, you absolutely must try the gnocchi.)"

  • "I made reservations for Ibby's as a surprise for my boyfriend who was visiting from out of town. He was pleasantly surprised by how nice of a restaurant it was for being on campus. We both enjoyed our food and the setting (which was great for couples). It was a great first experience for both of us, and I will definitely be going back."

  • "Food was excellent, with a healthy and creative touch! I enjoyed the kale salad as well as the white bean and sausage soup! And of course the dessert menu with the fresh ice cream and sorbet selections was terrific!"

  • "Ibby's at Washington University is the only restaurant in St Louis that you might sit next to an elderly Ladue couple going to a show or a college kid in pajamas eating tuna carpaccio and writing a term paper on their MacBook. To say the food is upscale for an on campus restaurant is an understatement. They feature a seasonally changing menu, nightly burger and entree specials, and their house special gnocchi. All in all, a great place tucked into Wash U's campus."

  • "All of the items at the Lunar New Year lunch buffet we're truly not enjoyable. Super disappointed because I eat there a lot. Had to have bananas foster as the main part of my meal."

  • "First time I've had a salad made with Kale. I thought it would be bitter, but tasted great. Darrius Hudson (who joined me for lunch) drinks Kale in power drinks, and he loved another purpose for the Kale he has at home."

  • "We consistently eat here before we go to the Edison. Debbie is a great server who is attentive, knows the food, & goes the extra way. The fried calamari was outstanding & the pork over risotto wonderful. BUT... food was inconsistent. The hamburger for one guest was cold! A request had been made for more pita to go with an appetizer & it was brought to the table long after the food was gone. And, sadly, the coffee took a VERY long time to arrive. Having said all this, YES, we will return. We still enjoyed being there even though it was inconsistent."

  • "We tried Ibby's based upon a recommendation from a family member. Service was prompt and attentive and the food was delicious. I like a good steak but try to eat organic beef, which is hard to find in restaurants. The one at Ibby's was prepared to order and the accompaniments were good. I love roasted brussels sprouts and these are no exception. My dining partner had the kale salad and the vegetarian option both of which would have satisfied even a meat-eater."

  • "The food was sub-par and way over priced. I would not go back. Good service though."

  • "The quality of the food in this restaurant has decreased severely over the past years. I ordered Burger- it was burnt. We ordered calamari- they have changed the sauce again, we were expecting marinara but they brought some mayo sauce, also no seasoning on the calamari. Sauce on the gnocchi was super creamy and cheesy! As for desert, because it was the end of semester before they went into holiday, they served vanilla ice cream instead of banana in banana's foster and salted caramel in apple crumble- both deserts lost their edges. We really likes the Bistro fries tho!"

  • "The food and service at Ibby's was fine but the table that we were setting at was terrible. We were at a very small table in the corner of the room no more than a foot away from the table next to us. There was no room for a private conversation. My seating area was very cramped and I had to share my space with the purse of the women sitting at the table next to us."

  • "The buttermilk, crispy fried chicken is amazing. The soups and vegetables choices are very complimentary to whatever the main dish is. A really nice places to dine on the campus of Washington University."

  • "We had a lovely meal and the waitress made sure the service was quick so that we could get to a play. Only drawback was the noise level. It was very loud, but the Restaurant was full."

  • "We enjoyed our meal, a bit noisy for "Young at Heart Senior Citizens". Best creme carmel dessert. Good chef and cheerful server who accommodated our specific requests."

  • "Our group of old guys eat here on a regular basis. We never know from time to time whether the group will be 8 or 15 or somewhere in between. We make a reservation for 10 -- if we have 15 they set up extra. If we have 8 they aren't upset. The buffet is a great value and the lunch menu is broad enough to satisfy us all. The college crowd makes it exhilarating."

  • "As a faculty member at Wash. U, I come to Ibby's with colleagues frequently. It is the best choice on campus for a sit-down meal, because the Whittemore House is members-only or business expense only, and because the buffet option helps you to get in and out quickly. The Knight Center is a more upscale choice, but often filled with participants doing programs in that building. It is best to make a reservation, because the students can use their meal points at Ibby's and often fill the place. It is hard to see a reason to travel and park for Ibby's if you don't already need to be on campus."

  • "Although I enjoyed myself, having gone to Ibby's in the company of friends, I honestly preferred last year's food--especially since the flatbread, always my favorite food to order, got "updated." Last year's was a warm, delicious, toasted bread base with thick aged Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and assorted greens on top; this year's has gone cold (literally and figuratively), with a somewhat-slimy topping of eggplant, olives, and goat cheese. The s'mores "jar" is, I admit, quite delicious. However, having tasted last year's s'mores tart--a warm chocolate tart full of thick, dark chocolate mousse, topped with vanilla ice cream, marshmallow fluff, and a Pirouette cookie--the jar is definitely lacking."

  • "Restaurant was mostly empty yet we were seated at the end of a banquet near the serving area. The Calamari tasted fishy, the trout was tasteless, though the Quinoa with which it was paired was good. The Mezze was good."

  • "As a student at washU, which has astoundingly good food, it is still a treat to be able to eat bistro fare that we can't get regularly. It's also really convenient, since Ibby's takes meal points, is right on campus, has great service and food, and will doggy bag everything upon request. I recommend the cornbread in particular, as well as the chicken-- worth the expenditure. Don't miss out on the s'more in a jar or you'll be sorry."

  • "Notwithstanding the fact that this is a restaurant run by a university dining services program, this restaurant is amazing! Their food was great, service was helpful, and they helped celebrate by birthday. I really, really like it!"
