A word from I Trulli
Opened in 1994, Nicola Marzovilla's warm and welcoming restaurant has been a favorite for more than 18 years for those in search of hearty, delicious Italian specialties. Its celebrated menu draws on the regional cuisine of the Marzovillas' homeland, Puglia. Nicola's mother, Dora, prepares hand-rolled fresh pastas daily. The restaurant is famed for its all-Italian wine list (expertly selected by Marzovilla), and the adjoining Enoteca offers lighter food and by-the-glass choices as well as a nightly happy hour from 3-8pm. I Trulli is a popular destination all-year round: diners can sit by the glow of the main room's rustic fireplace in winter, while in the warmer months are treated to the lush splendor of one of Manhattan's finest outdoor garden spaces.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I Trulli has consistently proven to be a very good restaurant for good Italian food. I like to take visitors from out of town, personal friends and business associates, because the food and the service has been so consistent. I know I can get very good Italian food and good service whichever night I go."

  • "Exceptional food, warm, welcoming ambiance, a reasonable noise level, fantastic wine list, & impeccable service...all on East 27th where they'll know your name! Don't miss this local gem. It's "Trulli" the best!"

  • "I always like this restaurant , beautiful outdoor patio and inside in the cold weather charming farmhouse atmosphere. The menu shown on the restaurant week dinner made my mouth water which is why I chose it to take two friends. However, the artichoke salad was not on it( waiter said that's another season but it was on this summers season dates included menu and the short rib had Brussels sprouts which I always choose also not available instead cauliflower which is ok but not my first choice so the meal was quite disappointing. Desert which was a chocolate cake with coconut ice cream was the winner and I never eat dessert but I would go back just for it!"

  • "Generally one would rate every aspect of a restaurant on food and customer service. However because there is an authentic and ever so heart warming atmosphere in iTrulli you have to rate the view, the smell, the bar keep or even their pizza bar and to top it off the ambiance of the entire restaurant as not just good but absolutely amazing. Then when it comes down to the food and service.....By God and sweet baby Jesus is it amazing. My best friend and I ordered the bristaco(beef with an amazing sauce and cauliflower) and the oriechetta (ragu) both amazing dishes. The tiramisu was stunning cause you can taste the espresso however the other desert was an overdose of chocolate. Never got to try the wine though. Otherwise it was amazing."

  • "I have been dining at I Trulli for at least 20 years, and it has been one of my favorite restaurants in the City. However, this time Our waiter was terrible. He mixed up our drink order, then brought the wrong appetizers. After the appetizers we never saw him again. However, when the new brought the bill, we were overcharged by $60. Also, it was restaurant week, and they were out of most everything on the restaurant week menu, so we very willingly ordered from the regular menu. Each appetizer and entree was mediocre at best, and not prepared in the usual way. I always loved their menu and the food was always delicious!!! Will never go there again!!!! It is sad because I always loved it there!!!"

  • "Attentive staff and solid Tuscan cuisine explain why after all these years I can still say this understated, Just off Park Ave S., Italian works well. For what it is, it is simply marvelous."

  • "The best food experience we had while visiting Manhattan. The food is fresh and delicious. The service was perfect. We sat outside and felt like we were transported elsewhere...it was so tranquil. I had the bass and it was amazing. Must try!!"

  • "A former NYC foodie recommended I Trulli and I went faithfully forward. Lucky call; the food, space, and service exceeded our expectations. Even the prices were, for Manhattan, not out of line. Ambiance was tough to judge as we arrived at 10:00 pm on a Tuesday and the place was winding down for the evening. In fact, our only gripe was that our waiter, with whom we felt an instant connection, disappeared once we'd ordered our entrées, without even saying goodbye. The nerve! We plan to return and request his full-time attention. The patio looked (from afar) inviting, and the fireplace (unlit on a summer's eve, understandably) is probably entrancing and romantic in winter. Highly recommend; but let's keep this between us, shall we?"

  • "hands down, the best italian dinner I've ever had! The service was exceptional, it really enhanched the dining experience tremendously. Food was cooked to perfection. Someone very talented was cooking in the kitchen that night."

  • "Good Italian is hard enough to find but good gluten free Italian is almost impossible in US. (No problem in Italy - ironic.) I Trulli achieved a delicious pistachio pesto gluten free broad noodle that was spectacular. Now add some GF bread to sop up that sauce and it would be perfect. On top of making me happy they 100% accommodated my picky emerging foodie 10 year old as well as my crazy (in the best way) 70 year old aunt. What could have been an evening of challenges turned into an wonderful evening. We will be back!"

  • "And we asked for a table in the garden. It was just perfect. It was private and open and comfortable and exactly what we were looking for for a Sunday night in the city. The food was a little bit disappointing but good nevertheless. Our appetizer of calamari was lukewarm. My two friends enjoyed the Bolognese and I had a whole fish which was perfectly done. Our peach tart was very disappointing. Hard peaches in a not very flaky pastry. But the atmosphere in the garden was just perfect and the waitstaff couldn't have been better. I recommend this for your summer nights."

  • "Over the years, I nurtured fond memories of i Trulli and enthusiastically recommended their food and the back garden. While the garden is still a beautiful out door spots, the food and service was disappointing. The flavors were insipid and execution was lack luster. While we are all familiar with the long recitation of specials at Italian restaurants, our server's accent got in the way of regular communication and made the daily specials incomprehensible (we all heard that "goldfish" was on the menu and we never really found out what was stuffed into the grilled calamari). I hope it was just a bad day because I would love this place to stay around."

  • "For a low humidity night, you can't beat the lovely garden. Puglia authentic food and wines. It was a bit crowed with parties and kids but we always have fun there."

  • "Hadn't been to I Trulli for years and was truly pleased to see that it still is terrific. The service is simply outstanding from the moment you walk in the door. The pasta dishes were so memorable that the next time perhaps we'll have just a series of them to keep our mouths happy. Ate too much great food, drank too much great wine and didn't care about anything else for two hours. Happy, happy, happy with the choice. Can't wait to go back."

  • "An outstanding restaurant. We have been there many times and prefer to come early and sit in the garden room when the weather is decent. The food is excellent with a superb wine list. The service is exemplary from the maitre d through the bus persons. The owner is always there to greet you and there is a fine family tradition that has kept the restaurant up to its high standards."

  • "Excellent in all respects. Atypical Italian menu with Puglian specialties, perfect service. Only quibble: please put salt and pepper on the tables. Some people just want to add their own, and this is no disrespect to the chef. "

  • "Returned after a lenghty hiatus and found everything just as fabulous as I remembered. Great regional food, amazing wine list (especially when combind with the wine bar next door). I won't wait so long to return next time!"

  • "The orracchetti with rabbit ragu would have benefitted if there was some visible "rabbit". Waiter was annoyingly aggressive in pressing us to order, even interrupting a conversation, and started clearing the table even though several of us were still eating. "

  • "In a city chockablock with Italian restaurants dishing up irresistible varieties of pasta, I Trulli more than holds its own. The menu's secondi aren't as reliable as its primi, but if you stick with an appetizer followed by pasta for your main course, you'll marvel that you were lucky enough to snag a table."

  • "This isn't the first time at I Trulli and it certainly won't be the last. I have never been disappointed in the food, no matter what I've ordered. Always had a longing for short ribs and this time, it was on the menu. Mouth-watering good! Additionally, the service has always been outstanding. Can't ask for me. That plus the fact that it's in the neighborhood, makes it an even better restaurant."

  • "I have eaten here before and really enjoyed it. This time, I was bringing a friend for her birthday and although the restaurant was 95% empty, 1st they tried to seat us near the door to the kitchen, when we protested, they moved us. The waitress was okay and only okay. We order the prix fixe, and the dessert was sad. The food was generally good, but I am disappointed in the overall experience - it is not an inexpensive experience."

  • "I hadn't visited in a long time but was happy to find I Trulli just as I remembered it: warm and welcoming, quiet enough for conversation, and presided over by a doting host. The garden has always been the attraction for me, but this time we savored the fireplace--and the great food. Appetizers, pastas, and fish all perfectly done, generously portioned, and lovingly served. We won't wait so long this time for a return visit."

  • "I always enjoy the Italian fare at I Trulli. I used to think its meals were overpriced, but rivals have been raising their tariffs, so now I Trulli is, unfortunately, typical. Also, I usually make a main course out of pasta, which is often better than the restaurant's secondi. A pasta dinner at I Trulli is invariably delightful. "

  • "Use to go here years ago. The quality of the staff and the food has gone down hill. Though polite they seemed not to know much about what they were serving. Some of our dishes were just meh, when one considers this was excellent to outstanding it hard not to just say, open table people, so many places near by with better Italian food. They just nned to shake up the kitchen a bit. ( example the prosciutto in the bueratta was dried out bait- the lamb chops were extremely fatty, large vein of fat in the center part of each medallion of the chops. ) In my open table request I asked for a quite table ( it was a business dinner) the other party arrived first and were seated next to the serving station which is in front away from the garden room."
