A word from I Sodi
Rita Sodi grew up on a little farm North of Florence, Italy, and almost everything her family ate was made from the farm, prosciutto, salame, wine, vegetables…and this food was very important for the family. They were not allowed to miss any meal. Rita's mother, Elena, always told her to drink wine because it “makes good blood” and do not eat Prosciutto without bread. When she finished art school she began to travel for my work in the clothing business and at that point she really started to appreciate the simplicity of her mother's food and the way she cooked. For ten years she traveled from Florence, Italy to New York, Los Angeles, Asia and Australia. Year after year, wherever in the world Rita found a kitchen, she began to cooked my Mother's food.   • "It's so nice to be in a small cozy restaurant. Menu is unusual - the special was legato of veal with Mash potatoes very simple but good - My husband loved the fried artichokes- I couldn't eat them - they tasted off to my- He is the fussy eater so no explanation. Husband had artichoke lasagne - also good - Chocoate cake was outstandingI would go back because of the ambience - this is comfort food"

  • "Early Friday dinner before hitting The Village Vanguard. Knew to expect crowded seating. Not a great place for groups or families. Excellent chocolate Martini that was made with fresh melted chocolate. When we left the place was packed and a tight squeeze to move around but not impossible. If you are not fond of crowded seating it is not the place for you. Ravioli is terrific but presentation of main course was lacking, made up for it in flavor. Dessert was nothing special so grab something sweet from any one of the delicious bakeries around. Fairly priced for the location, service and food. Strong attention to detail and ravioli makes this place a possible repeater for this village resident, but not a place I would recommend.."

Thankfully one evening a friend and I stumbled upon it and were lucky there were a few seats in the bar area available. The food is outstanding! It is so fresh and beautifully presented. highly recommend! Just make sure to make reservations as it is small and seating is limited"

  • "Very authentic. When you're seated at I Sodi, it feels as if you are in a neighborhood trattoria in a Tuscan town. We enjoyed everything about our meal. Be aware that it is a very small place, which does not work for larger groups. The wine list is not inexpensive, but it is well curated and not overpriced for what your get I wish I lived nearby."

  • "I Sodi manages to impress every time and has easily become my favorite restaurant in the city. Every bite of food I've ever had at I Sodi has been delicious. Favorite dishes include the Antipasto (selection of high quality meats and cheeses), all pasta dishes (especially Cacio e Pepe and the Rigatoni in meat sauce), and the Cornish hen grilled under a brick. But really anything you order here will be outstanding. Come hungry because you will not be able to stop eating!! Service is also impeccable, waiters are very friendly and attentive. My one negative point for I Sodi is the wine cost--pretty much all of the options on the wine list are now priced over $40, it would be nice to see them reintroduce a few bottles in the $30s price range."

  • "Was looking fwd to eating here for 3 months. Bones in the ragu, tasteless artichoke salad and tough rabbit/pork roll made for an unfortunate experience. Also the dessert was really overwhelmingly sour - and seemed like it was laying around for a while. I won't go back again. The restaurant itself is really nice and the bar area was fun - if you wanted to go there for a drink."

  • "Pasta was very good. I had a potato ravioli w eat sauce and my girlfriend had an artichoke lasagna. The pastas are not outrageously expensive but they are expensive and the the other "meat" entrees are overpriced. The wine is EXTREMELY overpriced. There is not much affordable there. You'll pay a lot for just a glass or two. Even the half bottles are overpriced. Overall a good experience but you can pay less elsewhere."

  • "Wonderful, personable, attentive service (from Chris!). The portions were much larger than expected (and not quite traditional Italian sizing), but the quality was very nice. The negronis were excellent and very interesting! The wine we tried was great, and the rest of the wine list looked impressive (if expensive). The portion size was actually a negative for me because I would like to have the antipasti, pasta, secondi, and contorni in one meal, and it was actually impossible to finish the food, despite ordering only a half order of the pasta. I had one bite of the secondi and then got it to go. It must be difficult running a restaurant, especially of higher-end dining, but smaller portions for for slightly less price would be a win."

  • "I made a reservation several weeks ago to celebrate a friends birthday. We were seated right next to the door on an extremely cold night and requested another table and were told that all the vacant tables were reserved. We were forced to keep our coats on during the meal and several times had to ask that the door, which did not close properly, be closed to keep us from being more uncomfortable. We enjoyed the food and as we eating our waitress spilled an entire glass of red wine on the table next to us and on to my friends coat."

And getting to I Sodi is a bit cheaper and easier to get to than to Florence. A place to return to again and again!"

  • "I sodi is my boyfriend and my favorite restaurant--after the one at which my brother is chef, Franny's. But we go to Franny's regularly, and think it wonderful each time. I Sodi, on the other hand, we have declared, to each other, our special place. The place we go and follow a pattern of ordering that feels special and free. We sip our negronis and order the special antipasto, then the caccio i pepe, then a secondo and peas and anything else that strikes our fancy, always with a wonderful wine. My only complaint, this time, is that because we had a 6,30 reservation, our slow pace was speeded up--or there were attempts to speed it up--by waiters who needed to turn the table. But they were gracious when we ilngered."

  • "the experience was very disappointing! our table was not ready when we arrived and waited at the bar for 15 minutes. at the bar we ordered drinks and the bartender never gave my friend her soda. once we were seated(which was in the front next to the windows it was EXTREMELY cold). our server was not attentive at all. we spoke to her when she took our order and than she forgot about us for the evening. my friend ordered another drink which never came and I was charged for it. The food was EXCEPTIONALLY! SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! my final complaint about my experience I had called 2 days in advance to explain it was a birthday and I wanted to know if we could put candles in a dessert(they said yes). our dessert came and no candles."

  • "We started with a beautiful and fresh vegetable credit platter. This was accompanied by a beautiful olive oil. Charlie, our amazing waiter, told us that this oil was recently harvested in Italy by the owners relative! We then enjoyed spaghetti cacio y pepe, rigatoni with meat sauce, and a special dish. The special was a meatball with mortadella and prosciutto, fried potatoes, and a relish of parsley,hard cooked eggs ,and capers. This was so fresh and rustic and was so delicious. We ended with affogato, hazelnut mousse, and the BEST EVER tiramisu. If you are in NYC and can't get to Italy, I Sodi will make you feel as if you are visiting a tuscan farmhouse. You will be happy that you did!"

  • "I didn't want to break up with artichokes. I love artichokes, truly. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that someone could make me second guess them, but that artichoke salad was terrible. I don't even know how to describe it except that I'm pretty sure that artichoke was grown in the subway and then cut into wild pieces and cooked(?) to taste terrible. It's unfortunate that we had such a horrendous appetizer, because the rigatoni with meat sauce and lasagna with meat sauce was really quite good. Granted they both had a bit too much salt, which is saying something for this salt lover. It just seemed like the dishes were trying a bit too hard to live up to recent press."

  • "We went to I Sodi for our anniversary and were treated to a quiet table and one delicious dish after another. Everything started out on the right foot with fresh bread accompanied by fresh-pressed olive oil just arrived from Italy. The tagliatelle with truffles were emblematic of Tuscan food: simply tossed with butter and topped with a generous amount of shaved truffles. The risotto ai funghi porcini was rich with mushroom flavor and cooked al dente. For entrees with had the branzino and the rabbit — both outstanding — accompanied by fried artichokes. If you've never had fried artichokes in Tuscany, these will surprise you: the very tenderest parts, deep fried and crispy. The top dish of the night: steak tartare. Don't miss it!"

Lasagna and cacio y pepe spaghetti satisfied our need to be warm and comforted on a cold Sunday evening! A prefect ending of affogato and tiramisu(BEST EVER) and we were off to return to Long Island dreaming of our return to I Sodi!"
