A word from I Monelli Trattoria Pizzeria
When I first Opened I MONELLI my intention was to share the cooking style, flavors & recipes that originated from my hometown.

Our ingredients are always FRESH to achieve the best taste, just as my mother used to back home. By using SIMPLE & FRESH ingredients, I prepare various specials every week from salads to main entrees that are not found on the menu.

To me, it’s all about the TASTE & QUALITY! Since we can't take you back to Italy, I have brought these dishes here to share with you.

Really wanted to like this place. Nice cozy atmosphere and close to home. Not sure if we caught them on a busy day, but our server missed the mark on a few things. Server was friendly and offered recommendations, but he forgot a couple things. We never received our appetizer we ordered, and my wife asked for a half order of one of the pasta dishes but we given (and charged for) a full instead. She ate all the pasta so we certainly didn't mind paying for the full amount, but we were a little disappointed we didn't get much of what we asked for. We'll probably try it again to see if this is a one-off, and bring some wine with us next time too!

This is a great Italian neighborhood Italian restaurant! I found it online because we needed a place to meet coming in from the burbs. What a great find!! We will definitely bring our family back. The potato rosemary pizza was delicious!!! A different take on pizza. The half is in the shape of a rectangle and the crust is between a thin crust and deep dish. Excellent pasta and salads too!

The food is quite good, and well-prepared. The specials and house-made pastas are usually the best. Salads are sizable and best shared. Pizzas have a nice, buttery crust. Not quite what I expect from thin-crust (a somewhat thinner, more floury crust), but very tasty. It's a small space, so it can be a bit noisy when fairly full...but BYO Italian that is of good quality and variety that also takes reservations is a great thing!

This is one of the best finds. We shared calamari and bruschetta apps and continued on with communal dining with pizza and arugal salads so lightly dressed with a little EVOO and lemon...so good. Crust was light with such a great crunch, topping were well proportioned. Only "complaint" was not enough pineapple on the Hawaiian. Service was fun, informative and so inviting. All guest were having a great times for yet another snowy, slushy night. No room for dessert & will save some for next time. It is a BYOB which somehow I missed; liquor is available across the street.

We live around the corner, and this is one of our favorite restaurants! Fantastic pizza, especially the I Monelli! It's a cozy atmosphere and BYO, making it great for a casual, affordable date night or out with friends and family. But it's also great for pickup or delivery. If you're not in the mood for pizza, there's good salads, apps and pasta too, but pizza is the standout. Recommend the suppli! We went for Valentine's Day, and were disappointed that we were restricted to a $35 prix fixe menu (that did not include pizza), but for the other 364 days of the year, it's a must!

We enjoyed a very nice evening celebrating a family birthday. I Moneli set a big table and served up a hearty fare of traditional, Italian specialties. The BYOB policy meant that we had the wine we liked at an affordable price. I think the server could have been a bit more attentive but this is a place where I'm sure we will return.

This place is Fantastic! I've lived in the neighborhood for years and this place is so inconspicuous so it's easy to drive/walk right by it. But once you go in, you will keep going back. The people are lovely, the food is amazing, the ambiance is delightful. The menu is so reasonably priced and with BYO you can't go wrong. I almost didn't want to write a review for fear that it will start to get too crowded once tons of people check it out - but it's too good not to share. Enjoy!

We sat outdoors on a warm fall evening. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. Shared a bottle of wine with a $2/person cork fee - reasonable. We had the margherita pizza and gnocchi, both very tasty. Loud with Western Avenue traffic, but the partition blocks most of the noise.

My son and I were in the city for a community service project, and needed to find a quick and tasty place to have dinner. We found I Monelli on opentable, and gave it a try. He loves Italian, and likes trying "gourmet" (meaning not chain) food when we go to the city. We both loved the pizza (Mozzarella, Roasted Potato and Rosemary), enjoyed the marinara lasagne, and I loved my salad as well. The food was all quite good for a neighborhood storefront. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow (took almost 40 minutes to get our main course) despite the restaurant being less than half full, and when it came time for dessert, we learned they were out of about half the items listed, even though it was only 7:30pm when we got there.

Been here many times (almost weekly). This is a really enjoyable family operated place with daily specials that are always fresh and creative. Vittorio, the owner /Chef, takes great pride in all of his offerings. My wife and daughter love his Carbonara. I love his Chicken Saltimbaca (not always on the specials list, but well worth a try when he has it.) Even his Pizza is incredible, especially if you like a thin, crunchy crust. We haven't found this kind of crust anywhere else. The whole place is run by family. (Mom,Dad, Sister, brother, nephews and a great serving staff. Absolutely worth a visit !

While technically, this trattoria is in Lincoln Square - it's off the grid of LS charm but has it's own small-scale charm- despite being right on busy Western Ave. The pizza was especially delicious, the service was attentive, and the food is lovingly made by a Neapolitan family. The european lemon icecream is delightful and the pasta is homemade. This is BYOB and accommodates large groups.

There were five of us so we sampled a good number of menu items. By far the favorite was the all cheese pizza, and especially the thin, crispy pizza crust. An appetizer of stuffed portabella was impressive in size and flavor as were the two salads - one with beets, candied walnuts and gorgonzola, and the other the house. Both were large enough to share. A linguini dish with shrimp in a cream sauce was good, but not as good as the pizza, nor was the spaghetti and meatballs. The orecchette con spinaci was a hit. Servings were generous enough that we brought home leftovers, and that without having to empty our wallets. I should add that our waiter added a great deal to our visit. He - and the pizza - are worth a return visit.

My boyfriend saw this place while driving down Western Avenue a few years ago when I moved into West Ridge and we went for lunch. We loved the place so much, that for the next two years we went at least once a month. We're now living in Hyde Park so there are fewer trips but we really miss I Monelli. We visit I Monelli several times each month. It is a family operated place with the Head Chef, "Vitorio" running the kitchen along with his cousins/ brother and others. His father and neice take care of the dining room and the rest of the staff including "Manuel and Nathan" take care of the customers. The menu changes almost daily with always fresh items. I definitely enjoy the ambiance and the friendly atmosphere. On top of everything else, it's a BYOB place. Can't beat it !

I love the food at I Monelli and they are BYOB so that's great, esp for groups. We had a great time there on Sat but for one incident. The waiter spilled 2 glasses of champagne all over my friend. Accidents happen, he apologized and we got over it for the most part but he should have comped a dessert or something since we were out the drinks and my friend had to sit in wet pants the rest of the night...

This was our first visit to I Monelli. We had seen it on "Check Please". Parking is fine on Western Avenue. The place is small and quite comfortable. We ordered the bruchetta and the crustini with goat cheese and prociuto (sp) for appetizers. The bruchetta was the freshest i've ever had. Delicious !I beleive the chef made it fresh as we ordered it. We then ordered 1/2 pizza for the both of us. This was more than enough. The thin crust is my wife's favorite. It was teriffic. The BYOB policy makes it even better and very affordable. Our server was great. Friendly and helpful with the menu. We will definitely return often.

An overall terrible experience. After being seated, it took 20 minutes for our waitress to appear. We had to ask for water. Our salads appeared 40 minutes later...powdered parmasan dumped all over the top of my caesar salad. I ordered chicken lemon...the sauce was brown and salty....no trace of lemon....not even a garnish. The panne cotta was inedible.we will not be returning.
