Hy's Steak House - WaikikiGreat ServiceErnie just makes you feel so special and just knows your every need, even before you do. Bob is a gracious host who greets you like you are family.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful restaurant offeringA wonderful restaurant offering excellent food. Keep it up.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointed by Food/ServiceOnce again we celebrated a birthday along with Mother's Day. We had a table close to Augie so we could listen to him or converse. Food was very good, I switched from my Delmonico to prime rib which was tasty. Hy's is a tradition in our family and our extended family. Mainland relatives are envious when we say we are going to Hy's.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHy's SteakhouseHy's Steakhouse is an excellent choice for well prepared steaks, lamb, and excellent service. The wine list is comprehensive, and the staff is extremely professional and courteous. The ambiance is enhanced with the musical talent of Audy Kimura. Especially delightful is the salad and dessert preparation table side. I recommend Hy's for a romantic dinner or as an opportunity to enable children to experience fine dining.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA ClassicGreat food, beautiful ambience, and an outstanding staff make you feel special as soon as you walk in the door. Pricey but worth every penny.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthdayHy’s lives up to its reparation as quality restaurant for celebrating special occasions. Mine was a birthday….Hy’s made you feel special with the family photo, the excellent service and fine dining.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet GetawayIt looked like a library with soft music playing. Audy Kimura played the guitar was very good and the music was very relaxing. The Lobster Bisque soup was very delicious. The steak was good but I think someone had a heavy hand on the black pepper. We come here at least once a year and enjoy their appetizers, the dinner menu is always the same, as they are known for their meats. The crabcake was delicious even though it was only 1 crabcake. Service was well-timed and friendly.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSTILL THE SAME GREAT PLACE TO DINE!4-29-2013 I celebrated my birthday at Hy's and it was still the same great restaurant I remembered it was some 20+ years ago! We had filet mignon--Steak Neptune and Hy's Garlic Steak. Both steaks were very soft and cooked to perfection. We had a salad and finished everything off with the Bananas Foster. If you never had bananas foster, you MUST try this. Our waiter, Neal, is a real pro at making the best bananas foster! He also brought me a slice of Hy's homemade cheese cake with strawberry sauce for my birthday. Oh, did I mention what a great waiter Neal is? Other servers were great too. I would definitely recommend Hy's to anyone celebrating a special occasion or just because. They know how to make you feel very special.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBestHawaiian version of fine diningIt was a little hard to find off the street but was the nicest atmosphere we visited in Honolulu. What you would expect for fine dining. There is no such thing as formal dining in Hawaii. Steaks were very good. We felt rushed but that is sometimes expected for the first seating. We don't like our courses to be served on top of each other while we are enjoying our cocktails. We could have requested that we not be rushed. Reasonably priced.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks Paul! Our server Paul was awesome, he really made this a memorable dining experience for my husband and me.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFor meat-lovers who want to splurgeHy's is the place to treat/spoil yourself and not worry about coronary artery disease for the moment. Expect to spend $100 for 2, probably $200 if alcohol included.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMEat at great steakhouse allEat at great steakhouse all over the world and this is a GREAT steakhouse.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMYou had him at "lobster bisque"It was our 29th wedding anniversary and my husband insisted on his favorite steak spot. We got to sit at our usual table and we were attended to by a very professional (yet friendly) staff. We threw caution to the wind and ate all the delicious things that our doctors warned us about. My husband got to indulge in his favorite - lobster bisque; you don't often see a grown man get emotional about a bowl of soup. You should have seen his face when he got his steak!
We live and work quite a distance from Waikiki, so we don't get to Hy's as often as we'd like, but we can always depend on them for a wonderful dining experience. Thank you, Hy's...hope to see you again real soon.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our new find whileThis was our new find while visiting Hawaii this year. It will be a must every year when we visit.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite fine diningOne of my favorite fine dining restaurants. A local favorite for over 30+ years.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday CelebrationThis place was GREAT! It was my husbands Birthday and from the second we enter they were wishing him happy Birthday. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. The Food was AMAZING! I had Prime Rib and I highly recommend it, the hubby had rack of lamb and said it was great as well. They surprised us with a dessert and candle for the hubby and then took our picture and it was printed out before we left and given to us. I am not sure which was better the service or the food. As we left the staff was still wishing my hubby Happy Birthday and they were quit busy! We will be dining at Hy's again, hopefully sooner than later!!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHIGHLY RECOMMENDEDGreat experience overall. The steak tar-tare starter was superb! Beef wellington is reason enough to go. My spouse really enjoyed her steak morsels / tips with truffle sauce. Great wine selection and our server, Jonah and the bartender were very helpful with the selection. We'll be back for sure next time we visit Waikiki.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the Best!Hy's always impresses. The quality of the food is superb and the service is exceptional. I highly recommend the rack of lamb. I have had this several times and each time it makes me look forward to my next dining experience at Hy's. I enjoy sitting on the downstairs level. With the artwork and the beautiful dark wood, it makes for an elegant dinner environment. This is one of the best restaurants in Honolulu. I highly recommend Hy's.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been going to Hy's probablyWe've been going to Hy's probably for over 20 years. As usual, we enjoyed the delicious food there--the filet mignon (for me)and the lamb (for hubby). We also ordered the lobster bisque and tomato/onion salad, which were both awesome, as was the bananas foster dessert. Of course, Audy Kimura is the icing on the cake. He's the perfect accompaniment to the wonderful food!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Notch - As UsualIncredible service - even greeting us by name. Several members of the staff stopped by to wish my husband a Happy Birthday. They were so attentive - and yet did not rush us, allowing a nice leisurely dinner together.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGood service and good food!Good service and good food! It's got it all! Pricey but worth the splurge.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe moment my sister and IThe moment my sister and I entered the restaurant we were greeted by the maitre'D and staff. We felt very welcomed and excited to be there for my sister's birthday. I believe the staff at Hy's are very efficient and have great customer service. I will definitely book her again for another special ocassion.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGo to Hy's for that old timeGo to Hy's for that old time steak house feeling. Watch them grill your prime steaks over keawe right in the restaurant. Tuxedoed waiters, ceasar salad prepared properly at tableside, lots of dark wood paneling and non-invasive local guitar music as background add up to a dining experience from the past that can be savored in the present. Our waiter, Ernie, has been waiting at Hy's for 37 years and is a true treasure of reminder of old Honolulu.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerAlthough we arrived early, a table was ready. Our waiter was experienced, professional and friendly. He and his support staff provided unobtrusive attention throughout the meal.
The house wine, Jordan's Cab, was smooth and enjoyable. We had escargots, done with a traditional garlic butter, followed by my wife's favorite, rack of lamb, cooked to our preferences, with a tasty crust. My time in Australia has tended to spoil me for lamb, but I enjoyed Hy's rack. The baked potato was as expected and the veg were excellent.
We left room for Bananas Foster, expertly prepared and served. Overall very satisfying.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLike the place, like the music,Like the place, like the music, like the food, all is great!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellent food andAlways excellent food and services, though valet services was a bit slow. Both drop off and pick up needed to wait a few minutes on thursday night. The restaurant was very busy ....only one valet guy.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWish there were more privateWish there were more private tables. We seemed to be right in the middle of everything.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food but where's the service??The food was delicious! It's been years since we've been to Hy's & it was a good experience. I loved the blackened ribeye. My friend's filet done Steak Neptune style literally melted in his mouth. WOW! We had to try the bananas foster flambe. Very yummy.
I was disappointed in the service. I remember great service 10 years ago, but this time we were overlooked as servers attended to non-english speaking groups.2/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA local favorite for greatA local favorite for great food, drinks, service and atmosphere. Our server "Troy" is always cordial and provides exceptional service. I highly recommend Hy's for any special night out.1/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. YourGreat food and service. Your consistency is exceptional and well received time and time again. Table side services are exceptional. You re a hidden gem.
