A word from Hy's Steak House - Waikiki
Hy's Steak House is an award winning restaurant in the heart of Waikiki. Open in 1976, Hy's has been a favorite of locals and visitors for 30 years.
Hy's specialties include Kiawe broiled USDA Prime Beef, succulent Lamb, great seafood as well as tableside preparations of many classic dishes. Hy's boasts an exquisite wine list with an emphasis on reds from the most reputable vineyards from around the world.
The ambience is Old-World, classic and very comfortable. Hy's is renown for its signature showcase steak broiler, where the steaks are expertly broiler over Kiawe wood. Kiawe is a Hawaiian hardwood that burns at a very high temperature and adds the perfect flavor to the broiled prime beef.
In Hy's library lounge there is live music nightly from 2 of Hawaii's top entertainers. Valet parking. Proper dress required.

  • "I took my mother here for Easter while she was visiting me in Hawaii. I love the menu because it is the only place I know that has chateaubriand on their menu, I also love the king crab legs you can get a la carte as an appetizer to share or added to your meal to make a surf and turf. "

  • "We returned to the Islands for the first time since 1990 and a dinner at Hy's Steak House was a must. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and Hy's was the perfect place. The food, service, and atmosphere were just as we had remembered it. It is refreshing to know that Hy's has maintained their high level of performance all of these years. How many establishments can claim that? The rich atmosphere, the friendly but not overwhelming staff, and of course the meal were outstanding. We hope that we can return soon. Thank you."

  • " Food was awesome, as always. Our server may have been new, he neglected our table for 20 minutes. We waived down another waiter to order drinks and appetizers. Other than that, everything was great. It's not a place to dine on a regular basis for average-income families."

  • "Birthday dinner with a small group of 4, may be a bit tight for space if our group was any larger. Not sure if they seat sections by number of guests. We had a booth so were able to keep our party a little more private vs tables in the middle area. Staff was very attentive to our needs, which were few as our servers anticipated our requests beforehand. Professional staff though able to laugh when my husband attempted to make jokes. Caesar salad was fresh and not too salty; crabcakes were also tasty. My prime rib was amazing, the fat was tasty and savory I ate it all though at other restaurants I would typically discard. Overall wonderful experience and we will definitely be coming back."

  • "The food was perfection Delmonico (boneless ribeye), fruits de mer, prime rib, spinach salad, lobster bisque, cherries jubilee, chocolate fantasy were the highlights of our dinner. All were perfectly cooked and served. Service was impeccable as always. Wonderful dinner experience and it was the first time to Hy's for one of our friend. He said it was the best dinner he's had in Hawaii!"

  • "My husband & I are such "STEAK LOVERS". When we can indulge we go to the finest restaurant that serves 'um. The steak is sooo mouthwatering flavorful that you'd think you'd die and step into heaven. The porterhouse steak!!! MAN.. You CAN'T find this anywhere on the island. I mean the real deal Porterhouse Steak, even though it was priced high it was 500% WORTH IT!! The juices melt in your mouth. The Medium rare still had a little bit of blood juice but cooked perfect in front of us that is where the Chef was in the see thru tube. The service is the BEST, even though your local they treat everyone the same from the hostess to the usher boys... LOVE IT & WILL ALWAYS BE BACK... MAHALOS FOR HAVING THE REAL DEAL!!!"

Ambiance was superior with respectful waiters who were effectively attentive without being "in the way". Our food presentation was exceptional, even to the point of honoring our splitting an entree and salad. The dinner was perfectly paced so when we finished we felt satisfied and cared for."

Compliments on the beef tips and steaks that were ordered by the other 5 members of our party, too.   • "Hy's is very expensive for the value. Steaks were excellent, mashed potatoes were just ok and the veggies were simple. Oysters Rockefeller were average. Watching the Q Chef grill the steaks on the huge open hot grill was nice. Some of the steaks are really huge, could feed a family or perhaps a lineman for the 49ers. We found other steaks houses we liked better."

  • "The enterance to Hy's is in a parking garage so it doesn't really look like much of a place, but when you get inside you are in an opulent wooden paneled steak house. While the mixed green salad isn't the greatest, the rest of the food is outstanding. The foie gras appetizer was the best I've ever had. The steaks are huge and cooked to perfection. It is a steak lovers paradise. Don't let the sign about proper dress scare you away. They just don't want caps, tank tops and swimwear."

I usually get the Filet and have never been disappointed. Our waiter talked us in to trying the ahi appetizer and I am glad he did. Absolutely delicious. Finished the meal with Banana Foster. I can still taste it. The service from start to finish has always been professional and friendly. Great atmosphere. Great food."

  • "My girlfriend ate at Hy's a long time ago and wanted to renew the experience. I made reservations on-line a couple weeks ahead of the event. We arrived on time, greeted with valet service and seated by the hostess. Table and location was great, ambience was something you would see in an old-world setting...service was immediate. Everything - drinks, appetizers and main course - nothing disappointed. Steaks were just the way they should be...perfect. A perfect place to start a perfect evening!"

The decor and tableware is dated, but you won't mind if fancy and sleek is not important to you. The live music was enjoyable and the staff was attentive. The food was prepared perfectly: delicious warm spinach salad prepared table side, filet minon seared with pink center, and excellent bananas foster. Overall, we enjoyed our meal; however, a romantic night out or gastronomic foodie experience might be best suited elsewhere."
