  • BBQ theme buffet needs improvement
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 8/24/2012
Our family had the buffet dinner during BBQ theme night. We thought for sure that BBQ in TX would be at least on par with other local BBQ joints around but we were wrong. The meats including the brisket was leathery and tough, and the rib was so dry that it was more of a jerky. Even the chicken was super dry and we were there for an early dinner (5:45pm reservations), so it was not even sitting there all that long. A major disappointment for us and our out of town guests. The dessert was nice and includes a chocolate fountain display. Service was great and we did receive an email from the restaurant manager apologizing for the poor quality of food. Omelette station staff made amazing omelettes at breakfast the next day.

We expected much better service. The kids had the children's buffet, the adults ordered an appetizer and entrees from the menu. No-one ever removed our appetizer plates, the children's buffet plates or dessert plates throughout the entire dinner. It took a long time to receive our drink order and we had to ask for more water at the table several times. Usually service is more proactive in a resort restaurant.

Dining at the Firewheel Cafe was very delightful. The food was fantastic...especially the seafood buffet offered on Friday night...as well as the service...best service I've had in a restaurant in a long time. I will definitely come back.

We're hoping our server was new; many mistakes throughout the evening, forgotten drinks, misplaced order, cold coffee, freezing room - but everyone was really nice and the food was very good!

Very good breakfast, lunch was so-so. Service was slow for every meal, even when the restaurant was nearly empty. Very disappointing from that standpoint. We liked that it was very kid-friendly.

We enjoyed Firewheel and we ended up eating from the buffet instead of off the menu. It was very good and had a good selection. Also, I enjoyed the dessert buffet which had everything from a chocolate fountain, to cookies, and cakes including cheesecake. The service was good, but a little slow at times and not quite as friendly as the rest of the staff on the property.

We were pleased with out lunch at the Firewheel. However, we had intended to eat at the Breakfast Buffet. Of course it had closed 5 minutes before we arrived. I had told our guests that it was the best BF we had ever gone to, a great family outing. On our previous visits we had always gone on holiday occasions when it had stayed open longer. Our suggestion is that you make it a brunch buffet and keep it open until 2 PM or so. Thank you for the feedback opportunity.

We were staying at this highly touted resort and this is the family oriented resturant for the resort. We ate there three times. We found the service staff to be poorly trained and unorganized. They had a tendancy to stand behind us and mumble which we found anoying. The food seemed to take a very long time to come out even though the resturant only had a few tables full. Little things like no bread plates for a dinner meal, no table cloth or place mats, or coasters for ice water or tea all made for a subpar experience. The food prices seem high for the experience. We expect more from a Hyatt facility.

We had a choice of ordering from the menu or trying the buffet. The buffet is the best deal, a good variety of food choices, especially the elaborate dessert table. The enchilada casserole was really good. Our server was friendly and attentive. It wasn't the most romantic setting for our anniversary dinner, lots of kids and noise, but we are grandparents so we enjoyed watching them.

I know I am only talking about a hamburger, but it was a very good hamburger. Nice up-scale but laid-back atmosphere. It was noticably louder at 8 p.m. from when we began dinner at 6 p.m., but we just moved to the bar for our after-dinner drinks.

The prices seemed high for the food you got. The only major critism I had was even with no line and being the only customers in the restaurant, we had to wait lenghty amount of time to get a high chair. So unless you went to get it yourself we are just standing there waiting so our child could be seated. The hostess said that our server would get it for us. I think the high chairs should be located somewhere closer to the hostess stand and the hostess could carry it back to our table. It seems silly to seat us when once we get to our table and our party cannot get seated. With the rest of the resort being so family friendly, I felt this dining experience for lunch or dinner was not.

Lost Pines is a nice excursion from Austin. After lunch, we walked around the grounds for three hours and enjoyed the beautiful gardens and river views for only the price of a lunch. The staff throughout the hotel and grounds is very friendly and act like they really enjoy assisting the guests.
