A word from Husk Restaurant
Occupying adjacent spaces on Queen Street, Husk’s structures date back to the late 1800s. The main dining room, constructed in 1893, evokes the grandeur of Charleston, and speaks to the transformation of the city over time. Victorian details and turned columns were layered over the original Queen Anne-style façade through the years, and the buildings fell into disrepair until discovered by Husk ownership. The Neighborhood Dining Group President David Howard set into a motion an extensive remodeling effort of both. Although both buildings retain their antique charm and stately character, the renovations imbued each with a modern, minimalist theme. Like the reinterpreted food served within, each space has been laid bare, revealing reclaimed floors, original windows, and exposed brick throughout.   • "Husk was recommended by many people and rightfully so. We made lunch reservations and were seated shortly after arriving. The decor of the restaurant was southern and cozy. The food was delicious and the service was great. I got the brisket sandwich and my boyfriend got the fried catfish, both were really tasty. We split the peach turnover for dessert and it was fantastic. I would definitely go back to Husk to try their dinner or for lunch again."

  • "Made these reservations months before our vacation based on a recommendation from a friend as a "must eat at" restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful. Service was efficient and food was delivered quickly. Dinner rolls were out of this world! Heirloom tomato appetizer was so delicious & flavorful. Food was excellent with beautiful presentation! Great place to splurge on a meal!"

  • "We are veteran foodies, always looking for the next best thing. We read the reviews, heard it was impossible to get in. We sat upstairs, in the back corner. If there was a view, we didnt have one. But our waiter more than made up for the seating arrangement. He was attentive and knowledgable.The bar menu was impressive! I loved the fact that wines were categorized by terroir - very creative! I had flat iron steak, my husband had pork. The steak was great, a little raw for medium, very tasty; the acompanying vegetables were savory and sauced just right. The pork was excellent - seemingly a southern take on cassoulet. The beans could have been pureed into the sauce to thicken it.Overall a very good meal. Lived up to the hype!"

I asked for more bread to clean my plate . From appetizer to dessert it was a wonderful gastronomical experience. If your in Charleston this would be my number one choice!"

Loved the presentation and veggies, too! Dessert (chess pie) was to die for. Nice way to experience great Southern food without the pretentiousness of other well-known Charleston establishments."

  • "My husband and I have been waiting to get a reservation for Husk because wd have heard really good things. We finally got one at 9:15 pm so didn't each much during the day to save up for all the delicious food. We were disappointed when we saw that the menu hadn't changed from the previous day. The pimento cheese was fair and the bread was something I could get at the grocery store. Both of our meals were too spicey and didn't have much to go with it. I couldn't even get a beer because all that was offered was local flare. Also, the bar waiting area was so packed that you couldn't even move. I'm glad we went so we could mark off our list but we won't be returning. Way too expensive for mediocre food and service."

We had shrimp and grits and Heritage ham for the entree, Arugula salad for the app, cornbread served in the skillet with pork honey butter and the sinful chocolate cake and milkshake for dessert. The atmosphere is nice, simple updated design,keeping the character of the old building.We liked the dishes the food was served on, heavy ceramic plates and bowls and a shaped wood bowl for the salad."

  • "Well.....if you are from the south you have had fried pork skins at some time in your life......the pigs ear lettuce wraps reminds me of that distinctive flavor but with a twist.....adding in pickles, peppers etc makes for a very tasty treat. Definitely taste better than it sounds... The friend chicken sandwich was wonderful......definitely not the fastfood variety and a huge portion - enough to share with a friend. Could not get a dinner reservation during our week in town so we opted for lunch.....a good choice all around."

  • "We dined at Husk the first time 2 years ago while staying at Kiawah Island. The first visit was truly enjoyable. The second visit we felt rushed so the restaurant could turn the table. The food was still good but not memorable. The Benton's bacon cornbread had no flavor of bacon. When we asked, the server said each of their cooks makes it differently. A great restaurant needs consistency, which apparently is not a concern here. We had the dining experience we expected at Chef Brock's other restaurant, McCrady's. We would return to McCrady's but think twice before returning to Husk."

  • "We heard a ton about Husk leading up to our visit, tough not to with the magazine articles and such, but this was our first time. The set up Is great inside and it has a huge selection of whiskey, IPAs and old fashioned drinks (non alcoholic as well). The Food was great, as to be expected, wood fired clams for app, as well as cold sweet corn soup that was amazing. Striper and flat iron steak both very well prepared and seasoned. Dessert was incredible, home made ice cream on a decadent piece of chocolate cake. Again, food was very good, although it was tough to live up to all the hype. With so many great Charleston dining experiences to choose from this is one to partake when you get a chance, although maybe not spectacular."

We booked the restaurant a month in advance from NJ to celebrate our anniversary in Charleston, SC. The menu was laid out differently with an interesting artistic twist. The wine list was also presented in a trendy manner. We both began with the fresh sweet corn soup with shrimp. For the entrees: The chicken was moist, slowly cooked, and had a delicious taste. The vegetables on each plate were perfectly done with interesting additions; such as carrot butter. We would eat here again and again if we lived close by. Well worth a visit."
