A word from Husk Restaurant
Occupying adjacent spaces on Queen Street, Husk’s structures date back to the late 1800s. The main dining room, constructed in 1893, evokes the grandeur of Charleston, and speaks to the transformation of the city over time. Victorian details and turned columns were layered over the original Queen Anne-style façade through the years, and the buildings fell into disrepair until discovered by Husk ownership. The Neighborhood Dining Group President David Howard set into a motion an extensive remodeling effort of both. Although both buildings retain their antique charm and stately character, the renovations imbued each with a modern, minimalist theme. Like the reinterpreted food served within, each space has been laid bare, revealing reclaimed floors, original windows, and exposed brick throughout. The main house features an open kitchen with a wood-burning oven and dining room.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The entire concept not just the food is world class. I mentioned on the res I was interested in vegetarian options and the waiter followed up on that request as soon as we sat down. Service is well trained not stuffy but not exactly a warm or conversational style. The food is outstanding in flavor, technique and execution. No hype just real quality good food. Brought our kids who are young 3 & 4 and although other younger babies in the room would not say the restaurant necessarily wants kids there. No kids menu or kids non breakable cups. Only thing not inline with the great food, service and ambience experience is the hostess. No hello no thank you goodbye and at this level it should be happening. Just head down uninterested demeanor."

  • "This is a real gem that hits all the spots for a great restaurant. Excellent service and food. If I'm Charleston , don't miss it."

  • "The menu is very meat heavy. As a non meater lover this was a turn off, however others I dined with loved it. They have some really interesting dishes and a lot of care is taken to cook them just right. Our service was a bit spotty, but this was due to our waitress trying to accommodate a last minute large party request. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the Charleston area. Be sure to book a table in advance!"

  • "I was really impressed with Husk. The food was fantastic, fresh and tasty. Drinks were delicious and every dish that came out was just amazing. Love that the menu changes and highlights seasonal, local food and produce. Also really interesting dishes! Love the ambience of the old house feel."

  • "From the first time we went to the preview opening of Husk, I knew that this was one of my new favorites! We always enjoy our meals and can't wait for the next excuse to dine with Husk. Luckily, we made reservations about a month in advance, so that we could catch the early dinner hour on a weekend. Always a great meal and impeccable service."

  • "Had a booking 2.15pm, was seated 2.30pm (when lunch service stops), so the restaurant was un-expectably empty. We had a wonderful bloody mary (served with a proscuitto slice on top!) and fried pig ears for starters. Delish! I had the catfish which was perfect size for me but would be on the smaller size for a man, and my friend had the shrimp and grittle. Both dishes were amazing. The only downer was the bathroom was broken upstairs and a plumber ran back and forth in and out. And the line to the ladies was long downstairs when we arrived."

  • "We really enjoy dining at Husk, every time we dine at Husk we really appreciate the whole experience. This time we were surprised to find the Bloody Mary`s with a piece of country ham and dash of hot sauce that really made a big difference in flavor and presentation."

  • "After a week of experiencing different restraunts in Charlston, we loved Husk the best. From great service to incredible detail in every dish. The bread rolls with just the perfect salt and sesame seeds, the grits and sausage with shrimp entree and the amazing peach turnover dessert. We just loved our experience and would recommend it 5 stars!"

  • "The food, service, and ambience created at this restaurant are impressive. This was the second time that we ate here, and as much as we enjoyed the first time the most recent was even better. The presentation, taste and creativity of our food was outstanding as was our excellent server who knew exactly when to arrive at our table with beverage refills and to entertain our requests for additional items. She was knowlegable about the ingredients an preparation of our food."

  • "Very personal touches from the name of the 'birthday girl' on the menu to complimentary cider. Always delicious cuisine and the meal was paced very well. Service was professional and personable."

  • "The experience was well worth the visit. From the cocktails & appetizers to the entree - it was a culinary delight! Glad I didn't miss the opportunity!"

  • "I took my mom here for her 50th birthday dinner and it was fantastic! We had drinks at the Bar at Husk before dinner - both the cocktails and service were terrific. We let the bartenders know that we were there for a reservation and the hostess called the bartenders when our table was ready - the process was seamless. When we sat down for dinner our menu was personalized with a special birthday message (and dessert also came with a candle), which was an unexpected touch that made our meal even more special. The food was delicious; I loved that all of the ingredients were locally sourced...you could certainly taste the freshness in everything. Dining at Husk while in Charleston is a must-do!"

  • "As Charleston local, I often bring out of town clients to Husk for lunch, explain how the restaurant is nationally, highly ranked (including interior design done by another local friend) and how it contributes to the "food vibe" of Charleston - where there's tremendous competition among all the chef friends Nicely done, as always"

  • "Went for our anniversary. When seated had pre printed menus wishing us a happy anniversary! The very friendly & knowledgeable waitress brought out cider made in house for us to toast with. Excellent food selection. Everything treated amazing. Walked away fully but not feeling heavy! Very great night!"

  • "We loved our evening at Husk! What a lovely restaurant! The drinks were delicious and so was our meal. I had the arugula salad and the chicken with "purloo." It was perfect!"

  • "My husband and I had lunch here and it was amazing. We started with the pig ear lettuce wraps - so yummy. He ordered shrimp and grits which had plenty of shrimp and the grits were extremely creamy with a deep flavor. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was very moist. The sandwich was fantastic."

  • "What an amazing Resturant. Even the spare table adornments were awesome. The food was fantastic. Make your reservations we in advance- everyone wants to eat at Husk. Now we know why!"

  • "We went to Husk expecting a great dining experience, but came away disappointed. In general, the food was good but not great, with the exception of the sweet corn chilled soup, which was excellent. The kitchen needs to tone down the overuse of salt, which was pervasive in virtually every dish."

  • "A lot of the menu is a bit too cutesy for my taste but what is clear is the passion the staff has for their work....it comes thru"

  • "We were recommended to eat here while in Charleston, plus we read about it several places, in magazines. The food was incredible, first and foremost, but we were also extremely impressed with the decor, the handmade pottery dishes that they are using made by a local potter, very impressive. Most restaurants do not pay attention to details like that. We love eating off of handmade dishware so it made our experience that much more enjoyable. A beautiful restaurant with great food!!"

  • "Our second time here was as good as the first a few years ago. Service was great and included all the little details celebrating our engagement including hard cider "champagne" and great attention paid to us by the staff. Food was excellent as well. Thanks!"

  • "Visitors from out-of-town were anxious to dine at this highly regarded restaurant, based on excellent reviews in national food columns. They were disappointed in the luncheon menu. They also found the amount of time it took to be served very long, extending way beyond the amount of time they had anticipated in planning the remainder of their afternoon. They all ordered a variety of items from the menu and concluded that the best thing ordered was the grilled pimento cheese."

  • "We celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary with dinner at Husk. We had heard great things from friends, but even they couldn't do it justice. You must experience it first hand. The details and the service were phenomenal. We never felt rushed or hurried. We enjoyed every course and had an amazing time. Our waiter, Travis, was great and really knew the menu and pointed us in the right direction. I highly recommend the CBWS punch to start the evening. The heirloom tomato salad was perfectly seasoned, and so ripe! My husband had the pig ear lettuce wraps. That would not have been on my radar, but I tried them and OMG! Thank you for one of the most amazing meals and a celebration to remember!"

  • "Husk is fabulous - one of the very best restaurants in the south."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Since we were early for dinner, we went to the bar for a drink. The wine list was expensive with not much of a selection. Whiskey, Bourbon, cocktails seemed more likely to order due to the variety. The restaurant had limited choice...the majority of the food low country. Our service was just okay, noting a table of five receiving their dinners before us even though we ordered first. Both our dinners were in their selection of five. My husband ordered quail. Our waitress did not provide a discard plate like the two tables next to us. The beginning biscuits were fabulous - enjoyed the bacon infused butter. This restaurant was our least favorite on our visit - not likely to return, except possibly to the carriage house."

  • "Husk lives up to all the hype. It was our 10 year anniversary and they actually printed us menus that said "Happy 10 year anniversary" on top. The food was amazing and the service and presentation was perfect. This restaurant is worth the wait. I had reservations before I even knew where we were staying! I can't wait to go back!"

  • "From the moment you walk in, this place gives you a wonderful experience. The wall with the list of ingredients and from which farm they came starts you off. Then the service is outstanding and the menu that changes daily is highly intriguing. We had a corn soup, steak dish and a pork dish. All of it was very tasty, great blend of ingredients with new to me flavors. Highly recommend!"

  • "Husk did not disappoint. The ambience and service treatment made it a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We had the pigs ears appetizer. It was unusual, crispy and delicious! The slow roasted pork was specially prepared and it showed in the melding of flavors- delicious! My husband had fish which looked and he said tasted delicious. We had the peach tart with peach sorbet. It looked beautiful but hardly tasted like peach, a little bland. However, all in all it was worth going there."

  • "Had a great lunch at Husk. First time visiting and went on recommendation from friends. We had one of the best Cheeseburgers ever- 3 different types of ground beef, bacon, shaved onions on a homemade bun with homemade pickles- YUM! We also had a delicious catfish entree over a fresh veggie broth that was delicious! Great service and atmosphere. Will definitely go back for more!"

  • "Maybe our expectations were so high because of the stellar reviews and Bon Appetit applause. And maybe because we are from the south, we perhaps expected something really new and different. There were lettuce wraps made with pork skins and pickled onions. This was fabulous! For dinner, I had catfish over corn. It was okay. My husband had grouper. We had too sweet cornbread. Butter beans with no seasoning. We skipped dessert. Because the place offers seasonal items and the menu changes often, I would probably recommend that you try it. We might, if we visit at another time of the year. There were many other places, during our week in Charleston, that we enjoyed much more."

  • "Whatever you think you know about Husk - whatever you've read about Husk - whatever you sense you might be about to experience at Husk - don't even try to prepare because Husk is beyond any expectation. Husk is going to blow you away. Everything is fresh and flavorful and beautifully presented. Don't forget to get a pan of cornbread for the table."

  • "We went to three high end restaurants while in Charleston for three nights. This of course being the Charleston "must". However for us it was a Charleston bust. It was the most expensive of the three and most disappointing. The wine list was lacking. Being known for it's southern influence, we were quite surprised after ordering 2 apps and 2 entrees, that only one of them actually tasted southern. The others all screamed Asian. No big, I'm fine with Asian food, and it was all well prepared, just lacking pizazz. Nothing we had was memorable or made me want to run home and recreate it. We left wishing we had gone back to one of the other two significantly more memorable restaurants."
