A word from Husk Restaurant
Occupying adjacent spaces on Queen Street, Husk’s structures date back to the late 1800s. The main dining room, constructed in 1893, evokes the grandeur of Charleston, and speaks to the transformation of the city over time. Victorian details and turned columns were layered over the original Queen Anne-style façade through the years, and the buildings fell into disrepair until discovered by Husk ownership. The Neighborhood Dining Group President David Howard set into a motion an extensive remodeling effort of both. Although both buildings retain their antique charm and stately character, the renovations imbued each with a modern, minimalist theme. Like the reinterpreted food served within, each space has been laid bare, revealing reclaimed floors, original windows, and exposed brick throughout. The main house features an open kitchen with a wood-burning oven and dining room.

Evening did not start well due to a mix up as to who would service our table. After that was straightened out, service was excellent. My husband felt the dorado fish he ordered was exceptional and I enjoyed my wood-fired tofu as well. The sushi appetizer and pumpkin cheesecake desserts were also delicious. And the live music was a nice surprise that made the evening more enjoyable. Great place!!

My daughter and I ate at Husk our last night in Charleston. We definitely saved the best for last. I never thought much about using fresh ingredients but wow could you taste the freshness. I had the flat iron steak and my daughter had the amberjack. They were incredible. And the pumpkin bread pudding and apple pot pie desserts were to die for. I don't usually write reviews but this meal was worth the effort.

If your travels are taking you to Charleston, SC, book your table at Husk well in advance so you can enjoy a wonderful dining experience. If you have ever watched Mind of a Chef on PBS, you may already know about Chef Sean Brock, who operates Husk and is a well-known spokesperson for traditional Southern cuisine. Husk delivers! Food was excellent, wine list was imaginative, atmosphere was relaxing and service was attentive. Prices are reasonable, and the restaurant is on Queen Street, an easy walk from the Market. Highly recommended.

The food was spectacular! We had the Rappahannock oysters to start then cornmeal catfish with gumbo and the pork belly. Both couldn't have been any better. We were too full for dessert but if they have the chess pie next time, I will definitely order it. Wine list was lacking -- I will call before next time to see if we can bring our own.

It's no surprise husk was rated the best restaurant in America in 2011. The ingredients are all local and the menu changes twice per day. The food was amazing. I had a piece of chicken that was so smooth and nearly melted in my mouth. The cheddar grits were fabulous and chocolate cake with peanut brittle was to die for.

Because it's hard to get evening reservations, we appreciated our opportunity for lunch at Husk. Our server was exceptional and described the menu and also portion sizes to help us order appropriately. The food is perfectly prepared and busting in flavor. Bacon and pork are prominent on the menu, including bacon fat and flavor in the cornbread. We tried a Southern ginger ale and Shrub for beverages. Shrimp and grits were delicious and the kitchen nicely split the entree because we mentioned that we would be sharing. Try Husk for lunch if you haven't planned ahead for evening reservations when in Charleston.

A true foodie find, Husk lives up to its reputation as a rare gem with artisanal, top-notch food. Unlike some contemporary restaurants, Husk has large portions and indulgent menu items, like the pimento cheese crostini or pork Roullettes. The burger at Husk is the best burger I have ever had in my life. Service is knowledgable, kind, and welcoming. Atmosphere is beautiful and earthy. I would return again and again, one of the better meals of my life.

3 starters (brisket, salad, and rice), 2 mains (catfish and duck), 1 dessert (pumpkin cake). Menu and sourcing are top notch, especially for a Virginia native who loved drinking cider from VA apples. Starters were creative and full of flavour - 5 stars there. Catfish was superb. Duck itself was good but the squash served with it was so overpowered by pumpkin it tasted like someone spilled pumpkin scent from Bed Bath & Beyond on the dish. The dessert was similarly disappointing, dry cake that tasted on par with a loaf from SBUX. Maybe that's a compliment to SBUX, but not tasty when that's your final impression at a highly regarded establishment.

Husk is Charleston's best restaurant. They have raised Southern cooking to another level. The corn bread was outstanding. The grits were the best I have ever had, and believe me I have tried them lunch and dinner in every restaurant I have been to in the south. They were made with cheddar cheese and the topping was crunchy like a good macaroni and cheese dish. The ribs were great as was the fish and everything else we tried. To end, the Butter Milk pie was outstanding, much better than the Hominy Grill. It had pieces of lemon peel in it. It is very difficult to get a reservation here, but now I know why.

I wanted to like it. It's hard to get into, ever one talks about it. But just did not love it, or even really like it. Caveat: I don't eat pork or drink bourbon. Our server told us 95% of every dish contains lard (pork fat). He couldn't have been more accommodating to me. But even the 3 pork eaters with me were less than impressed.

Husk was chosen by us as a place to host a young engaged couple from NJ. We chose Husk because it was central AND it was a restaurant in Charleston that we had not been to, but had heard much about. You can't judge a quality restaurant by Sunday Brunch, but this was really good, menu was interesting as expected and it will cause us to go back when in Charleston again. We live in Savannah and go to Charleston 3-5 times per year. Husk stands up to its reputation. Joy was a delight as our server. We had a "Joyfull" experience.
