A word from Husk Restaurant
Occupying adjacent spaces on Queen Street, Husk’s structures date back to the late 1800s. The main dining room, constructed in 1893, evokes the grandeur of Charleston, and speaks to the transformation of the city over time. Victorian details and turned columns were layered over the original Queen Anne-style façade through the years, and the buildings fell into disrepair until discovered by Husk ownership. The Neighborhood Dining Group President David Howard set into a motion an extensive remodeling effort of both. Although both buildings retain their antique charm and stately character, the renovations imbued each with a modern, minimalist theme. Like the reinterpreted food served within, each space has been laid bare, revealing reclaimed floors, original windows, and exposed brick throughout. The main house features an open kitchen with a wood-burning oven and dining room.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "What's to say?...this place is really one of the best restaurants, anywhere, period! My husband had the best pork chop of his life at our last visit...the only downer was the longer than usual wait even with our reservation. The service is also very attentive and knowledgeable. This is truly one of those places you want to come over and over again. We also love going to their cozy little bar next door in an outer building."

  • "Catfish, and shrimp and grits were absolutely delicious at good value for lunch. Best meal out of 4 different restaurants while in Charleson."

  • "Husk was everything it's talked up to be and more. The deserts are ah-mazing and definitely not to be missed."

  • "Great find - Chef utilizes only locally or regionally sourced food products. The ingredients were fresh, presentation was great and service was outstanding. The ambiance was great for lunch/brunch almost reminiscent to visiting your favorite relatives home for Sunday dinner. We will try to set up a reservation for parents weekend at C of C."

  • "While our party was very excited to dine at Husk, our experience was not what we had in mind for an expected four course fine dining evening. Food and beverages were exquisite for the most part, but our experience was rendered disappointing by our dismissive server. Brian tried to rush us through our meal from the moment we were seated. This behavior cont. even after letting him know we prefer to pace our courses, and he said "I appreciate that" when letting him know we were ready to order. The final blow came when a member of our party was served meat that was 50% inedible fat. Mgr. Jennifer came out to clear the table, clearly with intentions of addressing the issue, but failed to even speak to us, much less address the inedible dish."

  • "Except for the weather (hot, humid, what you expect for Charleston SC in mid-August) the Husk is a great place to grab a meal with a Southern flair. Easy to reach by walking from most downtown hotels, easy enough to find off of Queen street. Great shopping nearby (King street).Had made a reservation a week before and was led to our table at the appointed time. Menu was simple with less than 20 dishes being served. Service was prompt and attentive without being overbearing. Despite the bustle, you felt your table was your sanctuary. As for the food, great use of local produce and products. Southern costal cuisine without the grease and excessive starch. Make sure to get a reservation a week in advance for lunch, at least 2 weeks for dinner"

  • "We were able to get a last minute reservation and our experience was so much more wonderful than anticipated. We have had the opportunity to experience the best restaurants around the world and we would rate Husk at the top! The food was prepared perfectly, the wine list excellent and service friendly and efficient without hovering. We will definitely return on another trip to Charleston."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and when compared to other similar restaurants in this foodie town, this was a great experience. Service was excellent as well."

  • "The bar next door was a nice touch pre dinner!! Server was delightful and knowledgeable. The crab appetizer was a great choice. The fried chicken skins appetizer was heavy with parts ladened with grease. I would avoid this option The pork belly fish and salads were delicious. Despite the disappointing chicken skin option, the remainder of the meal enjoyable!"

  • "Despite the 30 minute wait after our reservation time, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal- the pig ears were fantastic as was everything else- when on charleston ale sure to make it to Husk!"

  • "This restaurant is coasting on its reputation. The vegetable base for the appetizer and a main course were identical, and the food was just ok."

  • "Husk is on all the top restaurant lists for a reason. This was our first time for lunch. Very reasonable prices for excellent food. I loved the fried chicken sandwich. Perfectly balanced. My dining companions had the beef brisket with a seasonal succotash and the shrimp and grits. Perfect lunch portions and preparation. Staff as always was friendly and attentive. Beautiful location just between Marion Square and the water front."

  • "The catfish (lightly dredged in cornmeal and baked in a screaming hot oven) was better than fried! Nice relatively light option for lunch. Our guest really enjoyed the shrimp and grits. Don't miss the cornbread!"

  • "As usual, the food was excellent.....but, also as usual, the portion sizes of different entres are a mystery. Two of us had too much food, two of us had barely enough......"

  • "Went to Husk on A Sunday for brunch. Had heard a lot about it so my expectations were high. It definitely lived up to the expectations. I got an omelet with the best tomatoes I have ever tasted and my husband got shrimp and grits that he said were delicious. The servers were so friendly and helpful and made you feel very welcome. The restaurant was very bright and quiet, considering most of the tables were full. Would go back for sure, but this time for dinner!"

  • "Eat here, you won't regret it. Not vegetarian friendly."

  • "Loved the updated interior in an 1800's house. The scene was vibrant and energetic but not too noisey, thus I said romantic because of the restaurant's energy. Plus, the lighting is not too bright and not too dim so it would be a place that I would come on a date. It was an "experience" because when you put it all together - the ambience, service and food - it was the best! Had the pimento cheese (best in the city after trying pimento cheese at 4 different spots), bibb lettuce w/ feta and chicken skins (what a salad! Crunchy chicken skins w/ the dressing, feta cheese which was smoother than any feta I've ever had), clams and ribs with peanut sauce. I don't love clams but I loved these. And the ribs with the peanuts - it was salty and sweet."

  • "Great good! Menu changes daily and offers excellent southern cooking and comfort good. A great mix of meat and seafood, they love pork here and offer it in several different variations. We will be back next trip!"

  • "This place is located right in the middle of Queen Street and worth the stop. All the food is sourced from farms in the south and change daily! We had the compressed watermelon salad, andouille po boy and pork, they are known for their pork! Try the bucket list and the punch!"

  • "We arrived ~7:00 p.m. for our 9:30 reservation and had a couple of drinks (and the cheese plate--highly recommend!) at The Bar at Husk. It was crowded, but we never had to wait long for our orders. The best part: since we checked in early, we were seated an hour earlier. Dinner--the quail, red snapper, and a side of Geechee Boy grits--was great. Our only "complaint" is re: the pork belly lettuce wraps (a first/appetizer). They were a bit too chewy; we expected better since pork is the restaurant's specialty. Still, it was a minor issue compared to the star quality of everything else--including our waitress, Candice (sp.?)."

  • "My husband and I recently had dinner at Husk while vacationing in Charleston. The location communicates old South charm perfectly. Rolls were served before dinner that were tender and delicious. The homemade pimento cheese on house-made crackers was a savory appetizer. I had red snapper and it was by far the best I've had. In all it was a wonderful experience."

  • "Couldn’t wait to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Local, fresh foods, interesting preparations and divine selections. If you want something unique, this is your spot. Even the simplest of choices is exquisite....e.g. the cheeseburger at Husk is the best ever, but be sure to try something different, like the pork belly. You will be thrilled. And there’s also a very cool cocktail menu! We can’t wait to return!"

  • "Returned to Husk because of the great meal that we had there in March and because their menu is so creative and interesting. We dine out in Charleston for the seafood and Husk always has a great variety and the preparation is perfect. Were not disappointed this time either. Also like the fact that the waitress/waitresses are very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Really appreciate the fact that out of all of the restaurants that we have visited in Charleston, Husk does the best job of spacing the tables so that you don't feel like you are packed in. Can easily hold a private conversation and enjoy the people that you are dining with. Will make it a point to eat there whenever we are in Charleston."

  • "we were recommended to come here by some friends and so I managed to book a reservation, sadly I had to take 5:45 which was a bit on the early side. I am so glad I did as our whole experience was fantastic. We were promptly seated and served water and lovely homemade bread. The food was delicious and nicely presented, the app of arugula salad was gorgeous , the dressing was drizzled over at the table. My main was the chicken with rice and asparagus, this was devine. My husband had the catfish which was also delicious. We do not usually have a dessert but as both app and main were so nice we did. I had the peach tart and my husband had the trifle, both equally delicious. We will return and definitely recommend to others."

  • "I have to say I really appreciated the knowledge the waitstaff had of all of the food and drinks offered at Husk. Many of the offerings are not very common and I honestly was not familiar with a few things. One of our party wanted to try an apple cider and he brought her a couple tastings so she could choose what she liked. Small things like that make me definitely want to return."

  • "My son and his girlfriend had dined at Husk and told us about it......we were on a girls' weekend and made reservations quite awhile in advance (which you absolutely need !) It lived up to the hype.....delicious !!!! We sat outside on the upstairs porch and it was lovely.....would highly recommend it !!"

  • "I had frantically searched multiple websites for the best restaurants in Charleston and found Husk at the top of many, if not all. I made my reservations a week in advance to the dismay of my picky eater husband. The ambience is very organic and romantic at the same time. Our waiter was so helpful with the menu and the Charleston scene. My husband even found something he could like! I was dead set on everything seafood while on this vacation (we don't live near the water so I don't get fresh seafood often) but chose the quail because it sounded so succulent. It exceeded our expectations!! We will definitely make this stop to Husk again when in the Charleston area."

  • "This restaurant was a recommendation from a friend who visited Charleston and told me it was a must! How right she was! I consider myself a foodie and this restaurant did not disappoint. The menu changes daily, with all fresh and local ingredients. If you do not appreciate fine food and cuisine, that's your loss and go get a pizza somewhere. The blend of flavors and fusion of tastes and recipes are remarkable. The Chefs are obviously top notch, it was one of the highlights of my trip! This place is popular, so I would make reservations."
