A word from Husk Restaurant
Occupying adjacent spaces on Queen Street, Husk’s structures date back to the late 1800s. The main dining room, constructed in 1893, evokes the grandeur of Charleston, and speaks to the transformation of the city over time. Victorian details and turned columns were layered over the original Queen Anne-style façade through the years, and the buildings fell into disrepair until discovered by Husk ownership. The Neighborhood Dining Group President David Howard set into a motion an extensive remodeling effort of both. Although both buildings retain their antique charm and stately character, the renovations imbued each with a modern, minimalist theme. Like the reinterpreted food served within, each space has been laid bare, revealing reclaimed floors, original windows, and exposed brick throughout. The main house features an open kitchen with a wood-burning oven and dining room.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I had lunch here and it was amazing. We started with the pig ear lettuce wraps - so yummy. He ordered shrimp and grits which had plenty of shrimp and the grits were extremely creamy with a deep flavor. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was very moist. The sandwich was fantastic."

  • "We went to Husk expecting a great dining experience, but came away disappointed. In general, the food was good but not great, with the exception of the sweet corn chilled soup, which was excellent. The kitchen needs to tone down the overuse of salt, which was pervasive in virtually every dish."

  • "A lot of the menu is a bit too cutesy for my taste but what is clear is the passion the staff has for their work....it comes thru"

  • "I have heard many times about the great food at Husk and somehow it still exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for an amazing meal and great service you can't beat what Sean Brock has created."

  • "Hands down the best shrimp and grits I've tasted in my life. Enough said."

  • "Our second time here was as good as the first a few years ago. Service was great and included all the little details celebrating our engagement including hard cider "champagne" and great attention paid to us by the staff. Food was excellent as well. Thanks!"

  • "Visitors from out-of-town were anxious to dine at this highly regarded restaurant, based on excellent reviews in national food columns. They were disappointed in the luncheon menu. They also found the amount of time it took to be served very long, extending way beyond the amount of time they had anticipated in planning the remainder of their afternoon. They all ordered a variety of items from the menu and concluded that the best thing ordered was the grilled pimento cheese."

  • "We celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary with dinner at Husk. We had heard great things from friends, but even they couldn't do it justice. You must experience it first hand. The details and the service were phenomenal. We never felt rushed or hurried. We enjoyed every course and had an amazing time. Our waiter, Travis, was great and really knew the menu and pointed us in the right direction. I highly recommend the CBWS punch to start the evening. The heirloom tomato salad was perfectly seasoned, and so ripe! My husband had the pig ear lettuce wraps. That would not have been on my radar, but I tried them and OMG! Thank you for one of the most amazing meals and a celebration to remember!"

  • "Husk is fabulous - one of the very best restaurants in the south."

  • "Since we were early for dinner, we went to the bar for a drink. The wine list was expensive with not much of a selection. Whiskey, Bourbon, cocktails seemed more likely to order due to the variety. The restaurant had limited choice...the majority of the food low country. Our service was just okay, noting a table of five receiving their dinners before us even though we ordered first. Both our dinners were in their selection of five. My husband ordered quail. Our waitress did not provide a discard plate like the two tables next to us. The beginning biscuits were fabulous - enjoyed the bacon infused butter. This restaurant was our least favorite on our visit - not likely to return, except possibly to the carriage house."

  • "Husk lives up to all the hype. It was our 10 year anniversary and they actually printed us menus that said "Happy 10 year anniversary" on top. The food was amazing and the service and presentation was perfect. This restaurant is worth the wait. I had reservations before I even knew where we were staying! I can't wait to go back!"

  • "From the moment you walk in, this place gives you a wonderful experience. The wall with the list of ingredients and from which farm they came starts you off. Then the service is outstanding and the menu that changes daily is highly intriguing. We had a corn soup, steak dish and a pork dish. All of it was very tasty, great blend of ingredients with new to me flavors. Highly recommend!"

  • "Husk did not disappoint. The ambience and service treatment made it a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We had the pigs ears appetizer. It was unusual, crispy and delicious! The slow roasted pork was specially prepared and it showed in the melding of flavors- delicious! My husband had fish which looked and he said tasted delicious. We had the peach tart with peach sorbet. It looked beautiful but hardly tasted like peach, a little bland. However, all in all it was worth going there."

  • "As always the lunch at Husk was great. Always an interesting menu with very good service. We continue to eat here on a regular basis on our frequent trips to Charleston."

  • "Had a great lunch at Husk. First time visiting and went on recommendation from friends. We had one of the best Cheeseburgers ever- 3 different types of ground beef, bacon, shaved onions on a homemade bun with homemade pickles- YUM! We also had a delicious catfish entree over a fresh veggie broth that was delicious! Great service and atmosphere. Will definitely go back for more!"

  • "Maybe our expectations were so high because of the stellar reviews and Bon Appetit applause. And maybe because we are from the south, we perhaps expected something really new and different. There were lettuce wraps made with pork skins and pickled onions. This was fabulous! For dinner, I had catfish over corn. It was okay. My husband had grouper. We had too sweet cornbread. Butter beans with no seasoning. We skipped dessert. Because the place offers seasonal items and the menu changes often, I would probably recommend that you try it. We might, if we visit at another time of the year. There were many other places, during our week in Charleston, that we enjoyed much more."

  • "Whatever you think you know about Husk - whatever you've read about Husk - whatever you sense you might be about to experience at Husk - don't even try to prepare because Husk is beyond any expectation. Husk is going to blow you away. Everything is fresh and flavorful and beautifully presented. Don't forget to get a pan of cornbread for the table."

  • "We went to three high end restaurants while in Charleston for three nights. This of course being the Charleston "must". However for us it was a Charleston bust. It was the most expensive of the three and most disappointing. The wine list was lacking. Being known for it's southern influence, we were quite surprised after ordering 2 apps and 2 entrees, that only one of them actually tasted southern. The others all screamed Asian. No big, I'm fine with Asian food, and it was all well prepared, just lacking pizazz. Nothing we had was memorable or made me want to run home and recreate it. We left wishing we had gone back to one of the other two significantly more memorable restaurants."

  • "From the pigs ears to the catfish to the cornbread Husk lived up to and exceeded expectations. A well-served reputation and a very congenial atmosphere, with friendly, knowledgeable servers and a good variety of wines. We brought friends from New Orleans here and they were impressed."

  • "After the many wonderful reviews I have read about Husk over the years, I was expecting an amazing experience. I would like to note that the restaurant is beautiful and the service was wonderful. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. All four of us agreed that our appetizers were the best part of the meal. We also agreed that our entrees were underwhelming. For the price of the meal, we will not be returning."

  • "Husk came highly recommended by a good friend and fellow foodie and I couldn't be more thankful. This place is in high demand, fortunately we were able to get a reservation for lunch. I'm glad we came for lunch because the crowd picked up later. While we were there, it felt like we received especially special service. Everyone was attentive and super-friendly. The food was also pretty darn amazing. Be sure to try the shrubs (vinegar and soda water drinks), it's a local Charleston great. Next time you visit Charleston, make Husk a top item on your "to do" list."
