They have fantastic food with an ever changing specials list. They have one of the best chicken pot pies I've ever had. The staff is great. They even allow dogs to eat with you on the patio. The place has the charm I wish I had in my own house and it makes me want to go back to scotland. The food is extraordinarily good and ultra-local (most is grown/raised on the farm). I am a person that likes to stick with what she knows is good and it's saying a lot that I've never had the same thing twice here! It was late spring on our visit and a beautiful day. Excellent beer selection on tap. As a group of seven we had quite a variety of dishes (unique salads, shephards pie, to fish & chips) and every thing was very tasty. The staff was friendly and attentive. We are looking forward to returning to try the dinner menu. Great rustic feel to the interior but everything is well maintained. As the interior tables are tend to be older farm house kitchen type tables it is a little tricky for parties larger then 5 to be seated together. We split into a group of 4 and a group of 3 but we were seated right next to each other. We were not disappointed at all! In fact, this was one of the best dining experiences we have had: low-key, cozy, intimate, friendly (no haughty attitudes here), and superior food. The bread was warm, crusty, and velvety inside. The fish and chips were among the best we've had, including Maritime Canada. The veal ragout and veggies had exquisite flavor. A wine list was not pushed on us; it was posted if we cared to order. Roaring fire in winter, busy outdoor garden during summer months, and excellent food always. The pub menu is consistent with reasonably-priced favorites. Dinner and lunch choices change daily and are fresh, healthy and innovative. The atmosphere is stylishly informal and convivial with locals and Washingtonians mixing on weekends. Our group had the liver and onions - so tender, delicious gravy and good selection of steamed veggies. Another one of us had the shephard's pie - yummy, comfort food. I was quickly directed to my waiting table, then on to the window in which you place your order. Even with all this help I still seated myself again without waiting for the drinks I'd just ordered. The bartender happily delivered them to out table with a smile on his face.
