- Sorry - this is a no goOpenTable Diner Since 2009VIPDined on 8/16/2014Outside seating is not part of the reservation system - thus my table was at the entrance to the kitchen despite the fact that about 18 seats were open on the outside patio. So, my wife and I had dinner with lots of traffic with servers carrying dirty dishes and kitchen noise overshadowing the meal. The food was good - but nothing to remember. Wine was flat (or stale).
- anniversary dinnerOpenTable Diner Since 2014Dined on 8/16/2014We have been regular customers for several years and we love the charm and ambience every time we come back. Hunter's Head gives you the intimacy of a pub with great food and very friendly staff.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Organic & non GMO delicious!shadowoodDined on 8/10/2014One of our favorite places to dine. Consistently good food, drink and service. WE love to take our visitors there. Winter has fireside seating. Summer has outdoor patio.Special Features:
- Very nice placeUSNDOC8404Dined on 8/9/2014Well, I really liked that I could make a reservation online and received a confirmation. My first impression was not good, the parking is a nightmare. Early arrivals parked crooked and left no space for others making the already small parking lot hold even less. I was a little early so I waited for someone to leave as there was no other clear place to park. I expected this place to be crowded as it was a Saturday. We sat outside (seating is "first come") and informed the waitress we were waiting on other people for our reservation. They were very accommodating, our waitress was very attentive and quick. The weather cooperated so we stayed outside. The food was not great, Shepard's Pie isn't complicated but it was bland. Overall very good.Special Features:
- Not always worth the $$$JAVADined on 8/9/2014Have been going to Hunter's Head for lunch 2-3 times a month for the past 2 years. It is pricey ($15 hamburger), but the food has always been good. Went for dinner for the first time this past weekend and it was disappointing. It was $150 for three of us for dinner, each getting a beer with dinner and splitting one appetizer. Fried Chicken was really dry and the biscuits were so dense that you could not bite into. Short ribs were not cooked long enough, tough and rubbery. We left more than half of our food behind.Special Features:
- Good Food, atmosphere, butjoeyDined on 8/9/2014I had the rainbow trout, which may have been the best tasting I ever had. My date had the fried chicken, which was more than enough to eat. We had dinner outside. The garden view was most pleasant. But, when I went to order, there appeared eight people ahead of me. The person taking the food order would make us wait while she filled the drink orders when there was a bartender right next to her. My date had to wait alone at a table while I stood in line waiting to order. I had already taken drinks to our table so we could review the menu with drinks. The person taking the food orders should not be taking time to fill drink orders. There were four or five behind me. Otherwise the service was good. I would love to return.Special Features:
- Pet FriendlyBorntDined on 8/3/2014Love that people can bring their dogs and sit on the patio. Excellent staff. A great place to just chill out.Special Features:
- Summer Sunday Lunch in the GardenAnnetastesDined on 8/3/2014Always a favorite - and a place we LOVE to share with visiting friends and family. Once again it was a big hit!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Historic Venuepreacher43Dined on 8/3/2014The outdoor tables with umbrellas provide a pleasant eating and talking atmosphere. Staff were gracious and service was good. We had a happy Sunday brunch, even though orders have to be placed at an inside window rather than from the table. The entire place feels old in a good way, but bathrooms are not adequate for crowds and were rather trashed up even when we arrived at noon on Sunday.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- nonenoneDined on 8/2/2014Previous experiences, the food was great. Not so this visit.
- Love the staff & high quality mealsSusiBDined on 8/2/2014We count this among our favorite restaurants in Virginia and DC. The Hunter's Head Tavern is a true gem in terms of an overall enjoyable dining experience! We have brought countless friends and family members to dine here and everyone of them enjoyed the charm and delicious food.Special Features:
- Casual Diningluv2boutDined on 8/2/2014Great place to go to for causal dining. Relaxed atmosphere. Lovely outdoor dining for fair weather days and cozy indoor dining for the cold seasons. Great for lunch and dinner.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- CelebrationLuvgoodfoodDined on 8/1/2014Our family met in one of Hunter's Head Tavern's large meeting rooms to celebrate Dad's 80th birthday. What a memorable evening for all of us--delicious food, outstanding service, great atmosphere for our special occasion. Whether it's dinner for 2 or a family celebration, Hunter's Head Tavern is a perfect choice.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

- Great English-style pub in VirginiawmsedgarDined on 7/31/2014Great stop for lunch or dinner. We loved dining outside. Food was very good for price. Casual and relaxed. Wonderful stop in a beautiful village.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- RonWDined on 7/29/2014Historic scene for dining - I liked the order first, then take a seatSpecial Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great PubDaveVIPDined on 7/27/2014Hunter's Head Tavern is as close to an authentic English Pub as one can get without crossing the Atlantic. We eat there about every six weeks on average and are never disappointed. Excellent dishes, with fresh ingredients locally supplied; a wide variety of beverage choices and excellent service -at a reasonable price.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Fantastic Food, Classic AmbienceSuares23Dined on 7/27/2014Hunter's Head Tavern is the restaurant owned by Ayrshire Farm, a magnificent enterprise devoted to the raising of heritage livestock. One will simply not find better or more "natural" food than one finds here. It is not possible to describe the difference between agribusiness meats and Ayrshire Farm's offerings. If you find yourself within 50 miles of Hunter's Head Tavern, make a reservation and treat yourself to a truly wonderful meal.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great Farm to Fork PlaceLovetheIslandsVIPDined on 7/26/2014The food just taste really fresh here, nothing too exotic, great basic lunch dishes. Outstanding desserts!Special Features:
- Enjoyable TimeSepticDined on 7/20/2014This was my first time eating here and overall things went well. Food delicious and a wide selection. After sitting down our waiter introduced himself and brought us our bread. The food did not take very long to come out of the kitchen and was correct and hot. Staff was attentive and did not let the drinks go empty. Atmosphere nice; you were able to eat either outside or inside and they even allowed dogs if eating outside. Plenty of parking. The selection of beers and ales was not very good. Only one ale from England, the rest were from the States and there were no real cask ales, something you would expect to find at a place like this. Overall a good experience and would definitely go back for another lunch/dinner there.Special Features:
- British pubOpenTable Diner Since 2011Dined on 7/19/2014Old British pub, don't let the order from the bar fool u, great service and great food. Would go back anytime!!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Feels like IrelandMEB1VIPDined on 7/18/2014Best Strongbow on tap in the tristate area with burgers that mean business. Dining on their patio is amazing. I love this place. Locally grown and raised food in a wonderful atmosphere!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- colonial style pub/restaurantKeyrockDined on 7/13/2014Wonderful food, great atmosphere, beautiful setting. The only problem was that I needed a fly swatter inside the restaurant. Hopefully an isolated incident. But, would still recommend it!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- favorite escape!perfectplacesDined on 7/9/2014I love the hunters head, and the beautiful scenery of the middleburg area--makes you feel like you've stepped back in time! Sky Meadows park is 10 minutes away; perfect place to build up an appetite for bangers and mash!! Always wonderful food, and service, super cool cocktails, and who knows you might walk right into a group of reenacting singing soldiers!! Enjoy!Special Features:
- Yy favorite restaurant ever.buttersDined on 7/6/2014Perfect food in a perfect settin. Hunters Head is the best place for bringing out of town guests to experience life in horse country.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

She enjoyed it as much as I do and we plan to come again with the rest of her family which includes two teens. the brunch ws delicious, the food up to customary standard. The server was efficient and friendly and the rest of the staff polite and welcoming. I bring all my visitors and friends to the tavern for that very reeason...Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- OpenTable Diner Since 2011Dined on 7/5/2014We had an excellent dinner on the patio. Great service and the food was delicious, as always. Our party had onion rings for an appetizer and they were hot and crispy - very good. We had the chicken pot pie, which is a favorite, macaroni and cheese which is always good and the kids love it, and fish and chips which were excellent. Their homemade limeade and lemonade were delicious! We will be back.Special Features:
- Hunter's Head Tavern - Great FindSandyBDined on 7/3/2014We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville, VA. Tucked away in the middle of Virginia's wine and horse country, the authentic British tavern was a perfect choice. The building was built around 1750 and the original log cabin, walls, fireplace and mantels created a wonderfully historic atmosphere. The food was delicious, as were the desserts, and were a perfect way to end the meal. I highly recommend this establishment!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- TravelinTractorDined on 6/17/2014Always great food, everything is locally sourced from the organic farms. Food is always fresh! Hard to go wrong, I have about 12 favorite dishes... Try the Mac and cheese or bubbles n squeaks, the arty dip, pot pie..... You get the point its all good!!!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- An Afternoon @ Hunter's HeadBeeBopDined on 6/15/2014Sunday was my third visit to Hunter's Head and just as enjoyable as the past two visits. The food is delicious, the staff friendly and professional. I looked forward to a return to Hunter's Head Tavern.Special Features:
- Expensive Pub FareVAReyssDined on 6/14/2014The place has a nice atmosphere and ordering is a bit confusing because no one eplained that we needed to order at the bar and wait for food to be served. Waitress was attentive. However, $16 for a small Shepherds pie is a bit expensive.Special Features:
- nice ambiance but food just fairOpenTable Diner Since 2012Dined on 6/14/2014food at our table: Whole Wheat Asparagus-Mushroom Crêpes w/Pub Greens Salad and Vegetarian Quiche w/ Pub Greens Salad. The Quiche and crepes were good, nothing remarkable, just what they should be. But the salads, a total waste of effort and ingredients. The greens, fresh and plentiful, were ruined by a sweet and and over potent dressing. The desert, Angel food cake with fresh berries and strawberries sorbet was very good. The sorbet was actually remarkable. Probably a three star rating would have been appropriate also, if not for the fact that with all the information available today, plentiful and instantaneous, there is no excuse for messing up a dressing. Ambiance, location, decor, excellent. Service, very good.Special Features:
- special occasion musthodgeDined on 6/14/2014everything about hunter's head is outstanding. the welcome, the extensive menu, the service, excellent cuisine....I'd go just for the bread. how DO they prepare all that array of food in such a small but charming setting?! Even the drive to get there is serene and relaxing. we are regulars.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- FamilygatheringDined on 6/8/2014We had been planning for months to come back to Hunter's on a special occassion with our entire family because of the excellent experience we had had before. We selected a room upstairs for the old English ambiance and food. We had an outstanding experience with excellent service to complement our special occassion.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Fun BrunchOpenTable Diner Since 2014Dined on 6/8/2014Second time on a Sunday morning. Brought some city friends out to the country for a relaxing brunch. Guys had steak and eggs, ladies had a salad and a salmon/cream cheese, w/bagel platter... all were delicious! On tap beers and variety of local and international wines and dessert (with expresso) was the perfect ending. Staff was attentive but not hovering. You can stay as long as you want to. Will definitely be going back. (there is hiking in a National Park 15 minutes down the road or Middleburg in 10 minutes the other direction.)Special Features:
- Group dinneroldiesDined on 6/6/2014I always enjoy Hunter's Head -- the food is good the ambiance is charming. The staff was very nice and quite accommodating However, I sent my hamburger back because it was overcooked, way overcooked. And, since I was the last one served at the three of the tables that our group occupied, I was still eating when others were mingling. They put a brand new waitress in with out group of about 20 people. She was nice and did her best to take care of us but she didn't seem to know much about the food.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- PeachBrew2014Dined on 6/6/2014The Peach Beer is the best I've ever had. Their salads are very good. Winter or summer this tavern has a lot of ambiance and really good food. The drive to Uppervile is part of the experience as the scenery is beautiful.Special Features:
- charming-ishfoodgeeksDined on 5/31/2014We hadn't been to Hunter Head Inn for probably 12 or so yrs, one should expect changes. Still, after we were shown to our indoor table, i was surprised by their new method of taking orders which had patrons stand in a line (though not very long, or for very much time) to place their order for food & drink from a menu that was shoulder level and frankly, easily blocked by the people in line, making it difficult to read. As we placed our order we were informed by waitress that another couple had taken our table; which we'd left cased reading glasses at. Upon returned to our table we saw that our case had indeed been moved to another table. hmmm? the waitress was somewhat apologetic. as for the meal only the calamari apt. shined.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
