  • "Good place to share well-prepared food, from comfort food to more exotic selections."

  • "This was my second time to this restaurant and my wife has been there about 4 times. It is a great place with really good food. The service was really good especially when my salad was way over dressed, they were responsive and didn't charge for it. The entrée I had was outstanding. We will be going back for sure."

  • "We checked the open table menu so expected more fish. There was very little fish on the menu. The food was okay at best. The salad was drowning in dressing and very light on anything but lettuce leaves. The blue cheese in it was a bunch of rinds. The other dishes were bland -- tasted like fried meat mixed with canned tomatoes & beans that came out of a crockpot. The $9 cocktail that our smug waiter raved about, Velvet Bulls-eye, tasted like tequila over ice. We did get a very generous serving of kale, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Nothing exciting here folks. Too bad. There's real potential & the space is cool. But the food & service is just meh."

  • "Food was overcooked and underseasoned. Wait staff was ok, but generally disinterested. We used to love this place. We won't be back."

  • "The ambiance would be better if the tables weren't so awkwardly placed. It is a very open floor plan and I don't feel like they make good use of it. They have these cool lights hanging from the ceiling, but way too many of them. The menu is very limited and is a multiple plate sharing sort of place. My husband and I have been to these places before, seems to be a trend in the NW, but generally you have a pretty plentiful number of options. We had the paella, which is $20 pp, but we only got one serving, which was enough for us. We also got the baguette to start with and we also got the smashed taters to share. The clams and muscles were on the salty side, but it was good in the paella. The food was decent, nothing special but we won't be back"

  • "The food was unique and delightful. Previous reviews complained about the small portions for the menu items. I felt the portion sizes was perfect. I would dine there again."

  • "I ordered the chicken tangine which was dark meat chicken on a bed of couscous, with onion, grapefruit, some kind of sauce and at least half a jar of green olives. The combination of sweet, sour, salt was so haphazard I couldn't really eat it."
    Dined on 11/13/2012
  • "The beet salad was too strong and the greens too tough. The butternut squash ravioli was cold on the inside. The rest of the food we found to be just fair in quality. Probably wouldn't go back."

  • "Yum! I'd love to come with a bigger group to have more plates to taste! The mix of flavors in all of the dishes was delightful."

  • "a little heavy on the cumin... I think 3 our of the 4 dishes we order had the same seasoning. Sausage sandwich was very good. Love the spicy ketchup."

  • "We came at 12.30 PM for lunch, the restaurant is half empty and there was no hostess at the door. The server came to greet us and gave us a choice of sitting high (they have high table with stool) or low, we choose to sit low. We opt the dine around seattle lunch menu and had spicy calamari (boiled calamari in spicy tomato sauce) and morrocan tomato bread soup (tomato sauce from a can plus few bits of crouton, very bland). For Entree we had chicken tangine (chicken with couscous in tomato sauce) and portugese curry nw shellfish (shrimp, mussels and clam in tomato sauce. For dessert we had curried bread pudding (3 slices of bread with sauce on top) and chocolate panna cotta (very rich and thick). Overall, a lot of tomato sauce."

  • "I enjoyed the roasted beet salad with kale- very yummy. The chicken tagine was super salty though. Our waiter was very friendly, helpful, and polite."

  • "No holds barred on the short but delectable brunch menu. Fabulous service, great French press coffee and no wait to get in when you have Hunger on Sunday morning!"

  • "Good place to try something different, interesting menu. Go check it out!"

  • "Had a great experience at Hunger the other night. My husband, myself and two out of town friends enjoyed a bunch of plates and all were delicious. The waiter was also great - patient, knowledgeable about the wines on the wine list, and placed our order so that everything came out in 'courses' rather than being slammed with everything we ordered all at once. Can't wait to go back again!"

  • "Went for Seattle Restaurant week with three other people. The food was fantastic. Try the bread pudding and the Head To Tail entree."

  • "We love this restaurant. It has successfully moved from a small space to a much larger one. It is a bit noisy but otherwise, an excellent neighborhood gem with great food (small and large plates; emphasis on spanish foods and unique spices)."

  • "We went during Seattle Restaruant week and everything started out great. Our reservations where for 6:30. As time passed it got increasingly more busy and it looked like there were only a couple servers on for a full house. The service was not what I expected, especially for how pricey the food is. We order of the 3 course menu and the regular menu. The food was really good but yet again service was just ok. He forgot my wine and drinks took a long time from the bar. We got the theo chocolate ice cream and it was freezer burned! Very disappointing, didn't bother sending it back because it would have taken forever."

  • "Just went here for the first time for lunch during restaurant week. We very much enjoyed our food & our wait staff. Our food was coming out a little slow, but our server was very proactive about it and we were enjoying our conversation anyway - not in a huge hurry. Judging from the look of the bar and the menu, I would be excited to come back for a drink or two, as far as the "scene" part, I'm just taking a guess that it gets hopping in the evenings and on the weekends."

  • "Helpful staff, but our wine pairing was not worth it and didn't compliment the food."
    Dined on 10/23/2012
  • "The food was tasty. The wine went well with the food. All the staff seemed to be trying hard to make this a satisfying dining experience. I enjoyed myself, and yet, something about the atmosphere was a little off. Maybe it just felt a little bit too much like the Doc Watson's that used to inhabit the space. Not that I had gone to Doc Watson's more than a couple of times....I ordered from the "Restaurant Week" menu. My friend ordered from the regular menu. Suffice it to say that I enjoyed the food and the service but not the ambiance."

  • "The food was good but the service was very slow. We asked 3 different people for a baguette to accompany our mussels, and sat there for over 10 minutes (our food getting cold the whole time), before we could get someone to deliver it to us. I ordered decaf coffee with dessert and wasnt told until after dessert was already served that there wasnt any decaf. Just little things that were irritating, but enough that I probably won't go back. The food was good but not spectacular."

  • "The service was terrible, the waiter was not even willing to provide recommendations, nor did he check back in after dishes were served to see if we needed anything else. Honestly, the host was more attentive and willing to help; describing items on the menu and additional options we had to enhance our experience. He should be put to better use than seating people and busing tables, it seemed like he actually enjoyed working with customers."

  • "Food was great! Delicious combo of flavors. Kale in "fall greens" salad was just right. Husband loved the tomato bread soup. Dessert was fabulous paired with the tawny port. However, service was fair at generous best. Combo host/waiter had an off putting manner. Did not explain the entree's. Did not explain or upsell the bread (which was not worth the $3.50 charged. Very ordinary). Brought wrong beverage pairing with dessert. Mischarged our check. All in all, questionable as to whether he knew what he was doing. The temporary/on-trial bartender, however, was charming, gracious and enthusiastic about answering questions. Hire her."

  • "Hunger is a neighborhood gem with exciting Spanish/Portuguese, Mediterranean, and Moroccan influenced plates that are meant to be shared. We always enjoy our dinners here."
    Dined on 10/12/2012
  • "I didn't have a chance to visit Hunger at their previous location so I can't compare my experience to that. Overall it was a really fantatic dinner. The entire menu sounded delicious and everything that our table ordered was polished off very quickly. The head to tail special was a great plate of different pork items, the stuffed dates with bleu cheese ice cream (!!) were amazing and the pasta of the day with lamb sausage deserved a second order. I didn't realize when booking the reservation that the menu was a la carte style so the dinner ended up being quite a bit more expensive than ~$30/plate. While not a deal breaker for us it did change the night from being a casual dinner with family to a more pricey endevour."

  • "Except for the name which our party of four found unappetizing, this is a first class restaurant that leads with creativity and flavor. The food synthesizes flavors and ingredients across cultures - Moroccan and Mediterranean. The lamb "head to toe" which is essentially different parts of lamb prepared in three different ways - was outstanding...as was the cerviche, the crispy pork belly and the Arroz. Adding to the food experience was a well-informed waiter who paired us perfectly with wine. It was a complete success - a real keeper."

  • "Food was interesting and mostly delicious (adjectives which don't necessarily go together). Standard favorites, such as stuffed dates, had the terrific addition of chorizo rather than bacon and a dollop of ice cream. A couple negatives: A lamb offering was served very rare but that wasn't indicated on the menu, and the dessert of "grilled stone-fruit salad" involved entirely unripe and unflavorful nectarines, a fact not concealed by grilling. Service was attentive and pleasant. The biggest surprise was the TV perched above the bar in the large, open space. I was behind a little curtain so I couldn't see it but I would have been distracted and annoyed if I'd been sitting anywhere else. The TV definitely doesn't fit the rest of the vibe"

  • "Took a friend for her birthday - the service was friendly, without being intrusive. The food was delicious. Every member of the staff with whom we interacted was pleasant and helpful. We all left with a warm, satisfied feeling, as well as being quite full!"

  • "As always at Hunger, the food and service were a delight. The ambience is warm, inviting and comfortable; and the employees are welcoming. All dishes come a la carte, which makes sharing easy. The burger and roasted beet salad are a dream, and you can't go wrong ordering one of their specials."

  • "We ate on the patio; service was professional & the server was very knowledgeable about the menu. It was great fun trying a variety of small plates -- who would have thought of blue cheese ice cream?!"

  • "Got to say - I liked the old place better. It at least was funky ... now that's gone."
    Dined on 8/21/2012
  • "Everything was fine, however when I pay $12 for a cocktail and $13 - $17 for a small plate I want my server to be very knowledgeable about the ingredients and I don't want to watch her eyeball every droplet that goes into a wine glass. If you are going to be that stingy, then measure where I can't see you. I had high hopes for Hunger because I'd heard such good things, but the move to a larger location hasn't been an improvement for this restaurant."
    Dined on 8/20/2012
  • "What I loved best about Hunger was the service. Our server as well as others in the restaurant were just so darn nice! One of them actually chased me down the block to give me a book I left inside. We ordered the fish and pasta special as well as the corn spaetzel. The fish was OK, but the other two were tasty. The interior is hip without being pretentious. Give it a try."

  • "Starting with excellent service, we enjoyed a couple of small plates and our individual entrees. The food was served hot and was delicious. Restaurant is noisy but the open areas between tables allow for private conversation for small groups. We will be back."
