Diner Reviews
  • "Food was very good but a bit pricey. Brunch menu is nice but overpriced considering most people will only choose 1 main item to eat. Only had a couple other side items to snack on while waiting for main choice. Service was slow, appears to be understaffed."

  • "wonderful place for a special evening - my wife and I shared the octopus starter, small but tasted incredible and their beet/goat cheese salad (excellent). I ordered the pasta, which was overcooked (average) but my wife had the scallops which were to die for. The chocolate dessert is now my global standard for how good chocolate should taste in a dessert. Server was absolutely spot on and did a wonderful job. Overall, very good and we'd go back again."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience at Hults with the new chef in the kitchen and the owner there to make everyone feel welcome. The presentation and flavor of each course was outstanding and the only reasons I did not check Hults as a neighborhood gem is the European size of portions and high price point. We will go back for special occasions."

  • "We chose the 'Experience' menu, 5 courses paired with wine. The food & wine were excellent. However, the rush was on. We're barely through a course, and 1/2 through the wine, and here comes the next. We had to specifically ask for them to slow down so we could enjoy and socialize. Restaurant was only 1/2 full, no reason for this. Go and enjoy the food, but open the conversation with "We would like to take our time dining"."

  • "Every part of our meal was impressive. The amuse bouche was clean and bright. Heirloom tomato salad was great and the umi crusted escolar was just amazing. A few glitches trying to get cocktails from the bar but the wine list and service more than made up for it. We will definitely return. Restaurant was great about adjusting our reservation to accommodate two more guests. Love a restaurant that has a noise level where you can still have a conversation over dinner."

  • "The caprese salad was made with thinly sliced no flavor tomatoes that had been chilled in the fridge all day. The mozzarella was grocery-store low fat cheese balls. The presentation was flat and uninteresting. Mostly the dish lacked all of the flavors that you come to expect from summer tomatoes, basil and cheese. Very sad. The main dish of pork loin came barely cooked. It was a confusing mess of meat and sauce. The restaurant offered no bread, only a raw salmon "amouse bouche". If dinner had come more quickly than almost an hour after ordering, then it would have made sense. The bread would have really helped to pass the time."

  • "My wife and I have now gone to Hult's at least 8 times since it has opened. Alex is doing everything he can to continually improve anything and everything to insure that everyone enjoy themselves while they are there and that the meal that they have will be delicious and enjoyable. I had the Sea Bass special and my wife had the scallops and they were both incredible. They did a great job with the whole theme of the interior decorating, very crisp and very relaxing appearance. Alex, the owner, goes to every table every night to ask everyone how are they doing and is the meal that they chose as good as they hoped it would be. Give Hult's a try if you haven't been there before, you won't regret it."

  • "What is not to enjoy. We were greeted by Cliff a really "nice" guy it all went up hill from there. We opted for the ala cart side of the menu but were tempted by the tasting menu. My wife had the beet salad which she described as superb. I had the shrimp and found it close to a meal in itself. My wife had the pork and I had the duck. Both were wonderful. We also ordered sides of carrots and asparagus. My wife polished off the carrots and I did my best with the asparagus. Both were roasted and served on mini frying pans. Alas we had no room for the wonderful desserts. It was our 51 wedding anniversary so the evening could not have been better."

  • "I had a three-hour dining experience at Hult's last weekend and loved every bite. The octopus and oyster appetizers were incredible. As for main dishes, the Rib-eye is not to be missed. My friend also had the fish... I think it was called escalar? It was also amazing. We topped it off with lots of wine and desert. The service was excellent ... the owner actually waited on us, which was fun. He was very passionate about farm fresh, local food and it definitely showed in the quality and flavor of all our dishes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and we will be back for sure!"

  • "My husband and I went to Hult's with another couple and although the location seems a bit more coffee shop like on the outside, being right on the corner of the main road in town, the interior was warn and welcoming. We were seated in the back dining area away from the busier front room which was nice so our group could talk. We each ordered the three course themed dinners and all were equally impressed. Not only was the service perfect, we even had the owner helping us, but the food was wonderful. Everything was cooked perfectly and the octopus appetizer was quite memorable. We will definitely visit again."

  • "The food was awesome, especially the fish and chicken dishes, as well as the appetizers, beet salad for one should definitely be tried. And the sides were also excellent, mac and cheese and french fries, to name a couple. The wine selection was excellent as well, especially for by the glass, which you usually don't see. The dessert, especially the chocolate cake with milkshake was superb. The one negative was the service, which could have been better."

  • "It was our first time at Hult's and I must say we had a great experience. Our waitress was very accommodating and attentive, the wine was great, and the food was fresh and delicious - you can tell they make an effort to get the freshest local food available. I would recommend for special occasions. More of an adult type atmosphere."

  • "Hult's is on its way to greatness ~ not quite there yet, but figuring it out. The first time I ate there, we tried the Hult's experience. This is a 5-course meal where you just pick the category (land, air, water, or earth) for beef/pork/lamb, poultry, fish & seafood, or vegetarian; and the chef prepares his surprises. It's a great way to go (especially if you also purchase the wine pairings) for the adventurous; but four of the courses were amazing and one was surprisingly bland. This time we tried a la carte, and the food was excellent but portions were inconsistent. Most were ample, but my daughter's entree was 3 scallops (for $28 that seemed pretty skimpy), and my carrot puree was literally just an orange smear on my plate."

  • "Our special occasion was handled well by the staff, but service was turned over to other servers when we did not choose the Tasting menu item which was very expensive. Normally we dress in a dressy casual manner. We were surprised to discover that we were overdressed. The entres, though tasty were meager portions for dinner. The appetizer that we shared was quite lovely. The Manhatten was appreciated. One dessert was quite good, the other somewhat disappointing."

  • "Excellent meal. We went for our anniversary and wanted to try someplace new. The food and the service were absolutely wonderful. The owner introduced himself and was very gracious. My husband is very particular about steak and said his ribeye was one of the best steaks he ever had! We will definitely be going back!"

  • "Definitely not what I had expected. From the time to arrival, we waited a good 45-50 min to be seated. We repeatedly had to remind the hostess that we were ready for our table. The AC wasnt working so it was extremely hot and stuffy. Then, while waiting for the table, we sit ourselves at the bar, hoping to at least get a mimosa, however, of the 3 people behind the bar, not one acknowledged us. We had to finally flag them down to service us. We finally get our table...horrible tasteless bland food and to top it off, we were supposed to have bottomless mimosas, we had to again flag them down to get refills, and then they ran out of champagne!"

  • "Had noon reservations and ended up being seated closer to 12:15. Hostess, busboy, and server all noted that they were understaffed. Food took a while to arrive and was marginal given the price. Everyone was friendly and apologetic but won't be back anytime soon."

  • "Menu looked great. Service was horrible. After an hour of waiting for our order to arrive in a half empty restaurant and no response from the staff, we decided to up and leave before our order arrived to find another place. The owner was happy to show off a new mural that was recently installed. She should be so enthusiastic about customer service. I rated the food as good although we didn't actually get any."

  • "Went on Groupon weekend (bad decision, Hult's wasn't ready for it). Reservations - 11:30....wasn't seated until 12! There were empty tables in the place but no one to bus and prep them. Food didn't arrive until 12:40...and the order was wrong - the chef immediately corrected the server's oversight. Completely understaffed. AND the bill was tabulated wrong - calculating sales tax at 10.8% and then charging sales tax on the sales tax! We paid the overcharge because we just wanted to get out. The food was good but not good enough to want to deal with the service. For the price point, there are much better experiences w/in walking distance. This is a pass. I can't give a no star for service...I would if I could."

  • "Third time to this restaurant hoping they had improved but greatly disappointed. The salads were very good, service was slow. The main entries were very disappointing, over cooked, dry, and tasteless. We did not appreciate comments made by the waitress and owner when we complained. Definitely not returning even if it was "free"."

  • "Hults is new to Los Gatos-This was our second time to Hult's-first was good but noisy Much better the second time-newer menu and not as noisy-they put things up on the ceiling that made it better- everything was great, thanks"

  • "Every time something was brought to the table, a extended explanation had to be given. At a business dinner you really don't want to be bothered with all that. At one point during some intense discussions the owner barges in to introduce himself. Nice enough guy, but not a great place for a quiet business dinner. After ordering Halibut I was informed 60 seconds prior to food delivery they miscounted the halibut and run out... and I was getting Sea bass instead. Not like I really had a choice."

  • "This was our second time at this new restaurant. The first experience was great!! I feel as if they switched chefs or something. There were 6 of us and we ordered the same things we that we had before. Right off the bat, the meals looked and were presented differently than we had experienced the first visit. We were there for Sunday brunch both times. The eggs benedict was lukewarm, the muffin under it was not even toasted, and the salmon was a thin sliver. The chicken and waffles were terrible and the presentation looked even worse. Tender chicken breast was now unappetizing dark meat plopped on the plate. We will not return."

  • "We went to celebrate our 24th wedding Anniv. But none of the staff ever mentioned our special celebration.. Very disappointing. The food overall was ok, but tiny servings. We purchased the 5 course dinner and wine pairing... $200 for two people. The cream of "anise" soup seemed watered down and we could not detect any anise. Seemed more like a bland cream of mushroom. My wife's tuna tartar was very good. My pork belly appetizer was inedible; two chunks of fatty pork belly that I could not cut through with a knife. My pork tenderloin was very good, albeit small. My wife's salmon was also good but the 2 inch square fillet was ridiculous. Unbelievably, they charged us $2 for 2 rolls after we spent $200... Wow!! Probably not going back."

  • "First time at Hults - very impressed. The food was fantastic. The bartender and waitress knew their stuff and were fun and helpful. Looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu. We had the scallops and rib eye. Both outstanding."

  • "Do not eat here for brunch. I should have known it would not be good when we talked in at 11:00am and the place was empty. Literally we were the first table. My second sign was that the bartender was waiting on us and she didn't know what a Bellini was.I asked for salt and they brought out three options with gain sizes so big they over power the food. Service was slow and the food is awful and expensive. For $70 we got two mimosas, two eggs Benedict, and side of waffle. That's it. This place is trying WAY too hard to be high end, but the food does not stand up. They need to go back to basics and take focus off the atmosphere and put it on the food."

  • "I loved our meal at Hult's. The service was outstanding and the food flavor was excellent. Definitely give it another try now that there is a new chef. The new menu was very nice and there were a lot of good options."

  • "This will soon be an A+ restaurant: tasteful decor, friendly service, beautiful presentations. We tried the "Land Adventure," and the pork course was surprisingly bland. The other four courses were wonderful, though. We also tried the optional wine pairings, which were all very nice & went perfectly with all five courses. We will definitely be going back."

  • "We live in Los Gatos so my wife and u thought we would try it out. Here is what we thought. Pros- 1 very nice ambience. Better than it looked before 2, our waiter (Cliff) was friendly and attentative. Cons- 1. Portions are very very small 2, way over prices. $50 for a pre slice 4 oz ribeye? $18 for a glass of wine! 3, food was far from exceptional. Even the back and cheese was bland. Too many better choices in Los Gatis to consider going back."

  • "What an incredible restaurant! Hult's boasts one of (if not 'the') most delicious menus I have ever tasted. Made from seasonal and mostly local items, the meals are fresh, flavorful, unique, and 100% satisfying. The small portions allow for you to try a handful of dishes without the chance of having leftovers to waste... But who wouldn't finish anything Hult's serves?! The friendly owners meander through the dining area and personally welcome you, inquiring how you're enjoying your experience. The staff is swift and friendy as well, and incredibly knowledgable regarding everything on the menu and wine list. Hult's is definitely the gem of Los Gatos!"

  • "Brought my parents to Hults for a birthday lunch on Sunday, staff was terrific, polite, timely and friendly. Food was good, not great, chicken and waffles ....chicken very good waffles not so much, mushy and undercooked. Rest of the plates were good. Four people, no cocktails and $75.00 + tip....really? Very expensive for brunch/breakfast with no alcohol. Will try once more and be more aware of pricing on menu."

  • "This was our second trip to Hult's. The first was right after they opened and we had a pretty poor experience, the food was good but the wait times for the food was horrible. June 21st was a very quiet Saturday night and the restaurant was only about half full so you would expect things to be running pretty smoothly. We had half off drinks and apps in the bar. The ceviche was very bland. It really needed some seasoning. For dinner, our food was very tasty like the first time, but they still are having issues with delivery. Our food was barely warm. When we informed our server, she did not ask if she could get it warmed up for us or anything, but she was great otherwise. Good food, but Hult's needs to get their timing perfected."

  • "Staff was friendly but service was lacking. waited at least 10mins for waitress to stop by, & she wanted to take our drink orders but we hadn't gotten a drink menu, so she brought one, but then didn't come back again for another 15mins & only after we flagged her down at which point she forgot we had never gotten to order drinks & wanted to take our food order. I wanted to order a pre-dinner drink & wanted to be sure I had time to drink it before my dinner came out & have wine with dinner. She assured me there would be time & then it took so long to get my drink that it came out at the exact same time as dinner. amuse bouche was inedible, Salad had wilted lettuce, waitress said mac & cheese is the best thing on menu but was only so so"

  • "We were greeted warmly at the door by the owner and promptly seated at a window table, for a view of Hwy 9. Our server, Ann, always approached our table with a smile on her face, whether taking an order , giving samples of delightful beverages, or checking to see if we needed anything. The menu was not large and we found that quality was what the restaurant wanted to offer, not quantity. The octopus and tuna tartar appetizers were delicious and well seasoned as were the entrees of Halibut and pork loin. The cappuccino was as good as any found in Italy, a nice surprise. The ménage a tois dessert was good, but would try something different next time."

  • "We went to this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation. There were five of us and from the time we arrived, we enjoyed every aspect of the restaurant. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Nice level of conversation going on in the restaurant yet we could carry on a conversation without having to yell at each other. From the first course to dessert, we all loved what we ordered and the presentation of each course was beautiful. We are all looking forward to coming here again. I loved how they got their fruits and vegetables from the Farmer's Market."
