A word from Hull Street Blues
What began as a saloon in 1889 is today the Hull Street Blues Cafe, listed as one of the best neighborhood restaurants in Baltimore. It is wedged among blocks of row houses in South Baltimore's Locust Point, on a side street named after Isaac Hull, a naval hero in the war of 1812. Also in his honor is the Cafe's Commodore Room for casual gourmet dining with linens and stemware. It gives the place a split personality as the adjacent room can be filled with locals lining a 40 foot long bar enjoying brews and lighter fare.

Dan and Kathy Macatee have seen their menu grow from a steamship round sandwich to include all of the basics from filet mignon and fresh salmon to Hull Street crab cakes and wild mushroom ravioli. The Hull Street Blues staff will cater parties upstairs in our banquet room or at a location of your choice. For visitors to historic Fort McHenry or to the Baltimore Inner Harbor, it is ideal as a lunch or dinner stop.

The brunch was ok. I don't know if its just because I'm older since last time I was there, probably about 10 years, but it just wasn't the same as I remember. I used to go all the time before I moved away but am now back and was happy to see this still going. However, every time I or anyone from the table tried to go to the buffet, it seemed half the food was gone and the other half looked not too fresh. The staff and people were so friendly but if I'm being honest; they need to work on keeping the buffet up.

I really enjoyed the dining experience. The menu was limited but that is something I prefer because usually on a limited menu what is prepared is outstanding. We will certainly return.

What a gem! I hate to give it such a glowing review because I want to keep it all for myself. Seriously, these are super-nice folks who serve terrific food in a warm and inviting place. It's one of the best finds we've made in several years.

In the neighborhood? Take a shot at it...pass through the bar, head into the nice dining room, and have a decent, not great, meal. We went on a Monday, the lunch menu was doing double duty for dinner as well, but dinner plates might be available if you ask. I wouldn't go out of my way, but if a funky, local hangout bar with dining appeals to you, and you are visiting Fort McHenry or other local spots, it is worth a try...very friendly and wanting to please. The food was adequate, not special, and prices were "normal" for this sort of spot....

This is a bar that has morphed into an excellent restaurant! The dining room side was not opened the night we were there so we were in a small room just off the bar. The casual atmosphere was very pleasant and the food was just outstanding. Our group of had crab dip, scallops, steak, BBQ pork loin, oysters, and the Greek salad with grilled chicken. Everything was cooked as ordered and very nicely done! We had a toddler with us and no one seemed to mind her occasional outbursts and activity. All in all, a great time!

Pleasant surprise...nice atmosphere in the Commodore Dining Room. Food tends toward a bit "comfort" style...my escargot was atop a piece of bread. I would try it again, but it is more a "neighborhood gem" rather than "fine dinining".
