A word from Hula Grill - Kaanapali
On the water's edge on Kaanapali Beach, Hula Grill offers a stunning view of the Pacific and of the islands of Lanai and Molokai. From this distinctly Hawaiian vantage point, you are invited to join us as we celebrate the hospitality, culture and cuisine of the islands. Dinner is served in our open-air dining room where you can relax in the ambiance of a plantation era beach house while enjoying renown chef Peter Merriman's Hawaii Regional Seafood, that isn't only a favorite of vacationers, but locals too. Hawaiian fresh fish and locally grown produce are combined to create amazing menu offerings that are as colorful as they are flavorful. Fiery sunsets are served up daily along with live Hawaiian entertainment.

Our Barefoot Bar offers a more casual menu serving both lunch and dinner under authentic thatch roof umbrellas and a sand floor where you can sink your toes in. The Barefoot Bar is seated on a walk-in basis only.

I had the macadamia-nut crusted mahi-mahi,which did not taste fresh, and the nuts were mushy. The others at the table had the prime rib and loved it; however, the vegetables and the mashed potatoes were just ho0hum, thus the average rating. I did not get there for the breakfast this time and assume it is still good.

I was very disappointed by our recent visit to the Hula Grill, especially after great experiences from other TS restaurants. The wait service was lacking and had to be prodded to provide information on what the night's menu entailed. The food was fine, but not worth the price with all the other great restaurants in the area.

Hula Grill's location on the beach walk in Ka'anapali is perfect for viewing the sunset, enjoying a meal on the beach, or having a drink at their wonderful Barefoot Bar while listening to music. Service is always excellent, and the fresh fish selections are delicious. Anything with "local" or "fresh" is always that, and done well. The Localicious salad has pohole fern grown on Maui. The fresh fruit plate has wonderful island selections that vary by region. We were a bit disappointed in the cocktails this visit, normally they are excellent, but our Mai Tais were pale imitations of the usual powerful knock-out drink. The Lilikoi Mojito was quite good, though.

We were celebrating our 25th and wanted to go to a water front restaurant. Hula's definitely fit the bill. It was recommended that we try the Chef's tasting menu which was a reasonable $26. The food was delicious and the portions on the small side (perfect for us). The service was friendly but seemed very rushed. Felt like we were being moved along since we weren't spending enough.

We had a great dinner at Hula Grill on the last evening of our Maui vacation. I was skeptical about Hula Grill based on my experiences at the Waikiki location. I frequent the Waikiki location often for breakfast when I'm in Honolulu, but something about that location is unimpressive. It has never inspired me to try dinner or even lunch. The Ka'anapali location is a different world. Great service, excellent wine list with some good values, and the food was excellent. The coconut seafood chowder was probably the best meal I had in Maui. The dessert was a bit too large, but still tasty. I would definitely recommend Hula Grill.

The food is awesome. Tandoori spice on fresh fish is great. Really enjoyed it on opah. Ambiance is great! Only two minor complaints: we had lobster wonton and only had two pieces for $16. Found out on a subsequent visit that should have been three at that price but were given the light plates version of two pieces but chargesd full price for the three. Wait staff should have noticed. Second issue was ordering Glass of the Paul Hobbs Chardonnay at $12 and brought a glass of Sauvignon blanc, a much cheaper wine. Had to bring this to the bartenders attention (some may not know the difference). In their defense, he owned up to the error an replaced it promptly. Despite these errors, I would recommend the restaurant fo its great food.

My wife and I were on vacation in Maui. We ate at Hula Grill twice. The first night we ate in the patio area and weren't happy with the food. We ordered the fish and the pizza. We came back three days later and ate in the dinning area. We both ordered the half chicken and the chicken was dry and over cooked. We ate at the same restaurant last year and it was great. Don't know what happen but it's not the same restaurant.

As always, a very pleasant dinner at Hula Grill. THe nightly special fish is usually the way to do and I was not disappointed this time. To get the kalua pig potstickers that used to be a favorite appetizer, you need to ask the server to get them from the bar menu. They are heavily deep-fried now but still have a very tasty filling. Not as amazing as before but still worth the trouble. I remain very fond of the bread sopping up the chili pepper sauce provided. Save room for dessert, as the ice cream sandwich and other desserts are very good. Servvice is always good but on this night it was superb and made for an extraordinarily pleasant evening.

The first thing we loved here was how the bread was presented at the table... in a silver lunchbox. How cute. And the bread was amazing but so is the dipping sauces they give you for it. Pace yourself... it really is addicting. But if you have nothing else, try the Coconut Seafood Chowder. Oh my... it has a coconut, cilantro based broth that will make you want to drink straight from the bowl. AMAZING.

This is another restaurant that went from being 'great' just a couple of years ago to being tired, bland, and mediocre! Don't bother ordering cocktails, unless you want alcohol-free cloying concoctions. HAWAIIAN CEVICHE has nothing in common with ceviche - it's just some bland avocado moosh. Fish special - completely forgettable. Salads... dead on arrival. Perhaps, the separate 'barefoot bar' section of the restaurant is better; at least their pizzas looked appetizing, but the waitress coldly stated that we could not have it in the main restaurant dining section, and something about the chef getting mad or confused if people try ordering food from the bar section...

We enjoyed the setting on the beach, but for the price of the food, I expected a whole lot more. My husband's fish was dry and bland and my seafood chowder "with shrimp, lobster, scallops, and fish" had exactly 1 shrimp, 1 scallop, a small piece of over cooked lobster and a lot of mystery fish. We will not be returning.

Yes, this place gets packed at night and some of the more negative reviews are perhaps true. However, we reserved an early table (5pm) and were seated front-row to the water, were not rushed in the slightest, and experienced great service. The Chef's Tasting menu was a treat - half sized portions (and they do tell you it's half sized) of an app, entree and dessert. With that plus the warm homemade bread, we were stuffed and satisfied. The passion fruit mojito was good, though a bit weak. For the price in Maui, we were quite happy!
