  • "With summer approaching, we could enjoy the late afternoon light long into the evening as we sipped champagne, treated our tastebuds to delectable dishes, and celebrated together. New tables, chairs and artwork added to the ambiance inside the restaurant too. The food was predictably awesome and the service was spot on, our glasses magically refilled at just the right moment. We feasted on a candied ahi appetizer, house made focaccia with dipping sauce, delightful salads and opah entrees followed by warm chocolate cake and a sample of Chef Ron's house made spumoni ice cream. (Wow! I didn't even think I liked spumoni!) A night to remember. I highly recommend Hukilau Lanai."

  • "This restaurant serves some of the best local seafood, veg, and fruit combinations on the Islands. The chef pays attention to every detail and there is even a gluten-free menu. Organic, amazing, and a 5 course taster menu paired with wines pays attention to fine details. A view of the ocean and the service is outstanding! We have eaten here all 4 trips since 2008 and some of the servers have become friends. Do not miss this one (there is also a kids menu if you have to bring the kids) and an outdoor patio. Live music every evening....a gem"

  • "We were introduced to the Hukilau by friends who had been there previously and had a great experience. It fills up fast so make reservations early! We got a reservation for just before 8PM which was ok. We ended up getting there early and went to the bar to kill some time. The waitress who helped us was absolutely awesome. We never got her name but she had an English accent. We were eventually seated but unfortunately were next to a large party which was very loud. There was a storm blowing through as well so the canvas siding they put up was billowing and snapping back and forth; all making it hard to hear each other. Not much they could do about that. I want to try it again, sans storm; it would probably be very romantic."

  • "We needed to try this place after reading about their green efforts and farm to table philosophy. So glad we did! The setting is absolutely gorgeous (we sat on the lanai, of course) and the service was great. Food was very fresh and affordable (compared to other places on island). We definitely recommend a date night here while visiting Kauai."

  • "My wife and I grabbed dinner at Hukilau Lanai and loved it. I would recommend it based upon the food and service. We both had seafood and it was fabulous."

  • "We spent our last night out to dinner at the Hukilau Lanai. We were questioning why we did not come here earlier in our vacation. The restaurant opens up to the gardens with a view of the water in the distance. A huge plus was that they had a gluten free menu! The rest of my family ate off the regular menu. We were all impressed with the service and quality of the food. Definitely make reservations since this restaurant fills up fast!"

  • "Each of us ordered a different selection, and each was outstanding. We had 4 kids along - all loved their meal, from the youngest (7 years old) who had the chicken fingers to the oldest (11 yrs old) who had the prime rib! Three appetizers were all excellent. Best calamari we've ever had - the only one ever that wasn't CHEWY! We had prime rib, chicken, meatloaf (yes, in Hawaii!!!), and several fish selections, along with two different desserts. All outstanding."

  • "We were looking for a romantic dinner on our last Kauai night and got it at HL. Great setting with an outside table facing a beautiful landscape of tropical plants, palm trees and, later, torches to light the night. Started with the lobster/goat cheese wontons - amazing! We wanted seafood and the waiter recommended the Ono and Opah. We got both and shared tastes. They do fish very well here. A nice bottle of chardonnay at a reasonable price and a nummy dessert finished off a great dining experience. Waiters were attentive without being instrusive and the atmosphere was such that you could carry on a conversation at normal speaking levels. We called 2 days ahead for reservations and that's probably a minimum."

  • "Hukilau Lanai never disappoints. The food is superb, the staff is fantastic and the ambiance is just perfect. We went for a business dinner and it was fantastic. We were able to be social, conduct business and enjoy delicious food. the attention to detail is just great. Chantry is a manager there and she very professional and knows her stuff. This is one of my favorite restaurants on the island. Do not miss this gem."

  • "Music from live entertainers in the bar is a nice touch. Sampler menu with wine (I had vegetarian) was excellent, plentiful and a great deal! Terrific mushroom tart and ravioli were standouts. Everything was nicely paced so sampler menu coordinated with others at table who ordered from regular menu."

  • "It has very little to do with the fact that we are owners at Kauai Coast Resort - Beachboy ..... the Hukilau Lanai has great food, drinks, service, staff and ambience ..... we have at least one dinner here every time we visit Kauai ..... we have never been dissatisfied with anything here."

  • "We dined here 6 times while we were in Kauai. They could not have improved in any way...it was wonderful! If we come back, this will be top of the dining list. My favorite dish was probably Wally's crown royal beef tenderloins. My husband liked the mahi mahi. We all loved the dressing on the wally's salad. Don't forget to try the chocolate dessert with the warm center."

  • "The food is the clear winner this evening. Highly recommend the Mix Grill and Ahi. based on average to below average drinks at the bar - slow disinterested service - and a weak appetizer - crab wonton- the entrees were worth the drive from Princeville. when next on Kauai, we'll be back to explore the menu much deeper! Also a hit was the 20 wines for about $20. Nothing for serious wine lovers but a great add to the menu to enjoy with dinner wide selection."

  • "As far as food quality is concerned, this was one of the few restaurants on Kauai that we could look back on as a good experience. Their food was quite good, and the ambiance was very pleasant, all for a reasonable price compared to other options on the mid-to-high end. We had our two young children with us, and they had a great time, too."

  • "Heavy integration with hotel a bit odd feeling to me. Sitting on lanai, waitperson speaks to you from behind -- a disconnected presence. I had to turn around to get eye contact. Drinks and food were good, but not outstanding. "Miraculously" every time we finished one course, the next arrived. Things felt forced."

  • "We visited Hukilau after a recommandation of our hotel Concierge. Turns out he was more than right, this restaurant has a large selection of sea food and fish dishes, and they are just exquisite. I easily believe this is the best restaurant on the entire island of Kauai."

  • "Wally salad was mostly lettuce with a few tomatoes, croutons, and I believe zucchini slices. Very little color added to a bland salad dressing. It was like eating simply lettuce. Mahi Mahi was a little dry. The pasta underneath it OK. Pork tenderloin was tender, but a rich, thick sauce was heavily laden on it. Sauce itself was good. Waiter seemed "disattached" to job. Except for ambiance. I would rather eat at one of the good food trucks."

  • "My wife and I ate at Hukilau Lanai while one Kauai to celebrate my 50th birthday. We made the reservation far enough in advance that we were able to get a table on the edge of the Resort grounds, which was wonderful. The service was attentive and the food was excellent. The only minor "complaint" is there is no signage guiding guests to the restaurant, neither on the turnoff from highway nor to help navigate to the resort."

  • "We had three meals throughout our week's stay on Kauai. We picked Hukilau because of Trip Advisor ratings and was not disappointed.n 5 minutes. Not the best spot but the restaurant was full and we didn't have a reservation so we were fine. Our Server was outstanding and there was no push to hurry through. Although the first night we were not personally happy with the preparation of the fish we adjusted our ordering subsequent nights, including ordering beef, and were very happy. Pricing was appropriate especially since it included a wonderful salad. The wine list is eclectic with many selections under $30. Corkage for your own, known wine (think Costco!), is just $10. Bar drinks very reasonably priced given resort environment."

  • "This place is hidden inside a condo resort and looks very unassuming. However, the outside patio had a really nice view and the food was great. Poki Nachos and the fish we had were wonderful. Drinks were reasonably priced and the for what the dinner included we thought it was a good value. One of our best meals on the island."

  • "Hukilau Lanai never fails to provide wonderful, tasty food! They always have a delicious, interesting soup of the day. Their service is fast and friendly. Whenever I want to impress a guest, without blowing up the budge,t this is my go to restaurant."

  • "The meals were great, again. I enjoyed the prawns less this time (seafood grill). Another time I would try one of the other fish meals. The waiter did point one out to me and probably would have been nice to try something different. My husband is a real meat person and he raved again about the prime rib."

  • "This restaurant in my opinion is the finest on the island. Their menu is good... I enjoyed the Monkfish this time and could not pass up the chocolate lava cake for dessert. The service is great and in our party of 8 .. everyone was pleased with their dinner choices. Oh and the bread they serve is wonderful with a lovely balsamic and oil dipping sauce .. if you are not careful you could fill up on that. We have been here many times and it never disappoints."

  • "We sent kudos back to the chef for his Mahi Mahi pine nut encrusted with Dijon creamy sauce creation. Scrumptious! Best dinner ever and we have had some outstanding dinners over the years! Do not pass up the chance to dine at the Hukilau Lanai!"

  • "This has always been a favorite place for a special night on Kauai. Perhaps these past experiences--and the continuing $30 per seafood entree--have set the bar too high. We enjoyed our overall experience, including the garden setting and near-perfect service, but the food itself fell short, compared to earlier visits. Wally's salad was still pleasing and the lobster bisque well worth the bump up in price, but the entrees themselves were disappointing. Despite lovely presentation, my ono was somewhat tough; and the rice it sat on had a flat, boxed rice taste--a far cry from the exquisite flavors we have enjoyed in the past. The ahi was similarly so-so. We will try one more time and hope the flavors of the past also return."

  • "We've been here before, many times. The service is pleasant and consistent. However, there is an undercurrent of, "Aren't you done yet!" This is done with a smile, but other restaurants invite relaxation over dinner. The gazpacho was delicious. Then we waited a long time for our entrees. Either the kitchen staff overcooked the fish or it sat too long under the hot lamps. Now we know why our friends were not interested in joining us."

  • "We arrived at 5:15 so we coould be in on the tasting menu that is served until 5:45. Wonderful bargain with 5 courses and 5 wines for $40. Housemade sausage and fiddlehead fern salad #1 and gazpacho with pineapple basic sorbet #2 fine . Others in our party had the meatloaf, very generous portions and ribs and a raviioli appetizers. All shared and delicious with nice touches such as the li hing mui pickled watermelon rind for the ribs. Desserts all good with the milk chocolate mousse with port reduction sauce and house made salted caramel toffee being the one we all coveted. Service very good with every server knowing what each of us ordered and even the bus boy could describe one of the ingredients we didn't recognize. Well done."

  • "We came here because I had read other reviews about their happy hour tasting menu being gluten-free. We were very impressed with the local foods and tasty preparations. All of the wait staff seemed knowledgeable about the gluten-free options and the service was great. I would definitely recommend this place!"
