Diner Reviews
  • "Hugo's reminded me of up-scale neighborhood restaurants in New Orleans. There was a lot of excitement and great food."

  • "Sonia is an outstanding bartender. Very personable. Suggests good choices."

  • "We have eaten at Hugos probably a dozen times. It is always outstanding. The food is consistently very good, delivery is very fast, and the wait staff is always friendly. We will always go back!"

  • "The promise of Hugo's menu seems more than its kitchen can deliver. The seafood gumbo and chicken/andouille soup were bland, meager and overpriced at $8 cup and were made from what appear to be the same base; only difference seemed to be that one had a few shrimp while the other had some chicken and sausage. For entrees, my wife and daughter ordered the lobster night special; one was quite good, the other virtually inedible because one was a female lobster whose tail was filled with a large roe sack. I had the oyster poboy, which I sent back after eating half. The bread was burnt and more importantly the "oysters" were mostly small scraps and overcooked breading. To Hugo's credit, they took the poboy and a lobster off the bill."

  • "Great bar restaurant to visit if you enjoy oysters. Their soups are pretty tasty, and you must try the Hugo's Oysters. Friendly and professional staff always makes my visit enjoyable."

  • "tuna tartare is fabulous. husband always enjoys oysters. fried shrimp are too greasy. service can be a tad slow and it is quite noisy. booths are T I G H T. But overall we really like it."

  • "Between the specials, the amazing food, Bloody Mary and mimosa bar and the incredible staff this is a place that I can't get enough of. Crystal, our server, was so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! Love this place. Every single time."

  • "The food was very good overall, but the Oysters Hugo were excellent. We were seated right away and on time with our reservation, even though it was quite busy. Our initial service was also very good, but as the dinner progressed and the restaurant became even more busy our waiter seemed overwhelmed and lost contact with our table. It was not for lack of effort, for everyone was working hard, there just wasn't enough staff to keep up with the crowd."

  • "Food was ok but quantity was small. Crab cake was cool in the center and the redfish was tiny."

  • "Hugo's never disappoints. The wait staff is as good as the food. Spot-on food recommendations, friendly, but not overbearing. My husband always gets oysters and I have trouble not ordering the fried green tomatoes with crab. This time I got the tuna tar tar (delish!)"

  • "Hugo's seems like it should actually be on Canton St with the other great restaurants in historic Roswell. While the location is a bit odd, inside feels like the beach - only with waaaaay better food! Our server, Von, was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us just the right amount of attention. Brunch was delicious. We ordered appetizers, food from the lunch and brunch menus, raw oysters (of course!), and also dessert. We were very happy with everything! I can't wait to go back to try one of their weeknight specials or to sit on the patio for raw oysters and cold beer."

  • "Went on Sat. night with a group of 6 at a round table. We had a reservation for 7:15 and they were ready for us! The food was terrific. 2 people at our table ordered the bloody Mary and loved them. All apps were great and all 6 plates were completely empty going back to the kitchen. The only problem is the noise level. We could not hear anything. We left and went somewhere else for dessert so we could hear the conversation being held. Check it out during a quieter time, and it should be fine....And do we really need valet service? Our car was parked 10 feet from where we left it."

  • "The oysters were very tiny for an oyster bar. And not worth the price per oyster. The food came out pipint hot and was very tasty. However, we felt that the waiter had no real time for us. He would ask a question or tell us something and walk away without waiting for a response. We felt rushed."

  • "Restaurant was too loud for our taste and ultimately our party (of 40-somethings) moved outside to finish the meal. The party from the adjacent table spoke to us on the way out, commenting that they had found it to be too loud as well. when dining with a party larger than 4, their protocol is to place you in the back but the sound is really unbearable. next time our larger party will sit on the porch."

  • "My wife & I went here for her birthday. The char-grilled oysters were superb, as usual; + she got free dessert for her birthday!"

  • "We felt a little rushed and once the evening wore on we could hardly hear ourselves talk. Also, never get seated by the kitchen, too much noise with dishes rattling. That being said, the food was very good. I would probably not go on a weekend night again."

  • "I love coming to Hugo's for their delicious seafood! This is my personal favorite meal to order: Jalapeno Margarita, Hugo's Oysters, Crawfish & Boudin Balls, Seafood Gumbo or their Clam Chowder (was a soup special), and my Oyster Po-Boy. There are plenty of TVs with low volume and captions to not add unnecessary noise, comfortable tables, and a great bar. Absolutely recommendable and worth a visit."

  • "We decided to try Hugo's at the last minute and so glad we did. The grouper was very fresh and delicious and my husband loved the grilled oysters. Service was excellent - entire staff did a great job, even the valet. All were friendly, professional, and very pleasant. We will return for sure ~ Great find!!"

  • "This was my first time there on a Saturday night. It took awhile for waiter to take our drink menu. When he dic, he came back 10 minutes later and said bar was backed up then came back 10 minutes later and apologized that he forgot to put order in. 3 of us had ordered drinks. 2 of us decided to stick with our drink order. When the waiter eventually came back with our drinks, he brought the 3rd person a drink and apologized. We assumed that drink would be free. The food was chintzy and they took my favorite fish off the menu - Cobia. When we got the bill, all 3 drinks were on it. Our drinks should have been free - no question. Was very disappointed that this restaurant did not make up for their mistakes. Not going back!"

  • "Hugo's is one of our favorites. This visit was for Mothers Day and the restaurant was crowded. That is not unusual but our server for this visit had constant trouble and the bartender could not make one of their standard drinks. We were surprised and disappointed but one poor experience out of many visits is not a killer. We'll be back."

  • "Great neighborhood spot, still in the Roswell area but off of the Canton Street madness so a little easier to get in and out of. The oyster combo platter appetizer has been outstanding all three times we've eaten at Hugo's. I won't get the crab salad again - nothing wrong with it, there are just better things on the menu. It's bland. We love the atmosphere - just a good solid place."

  • "We ate dinner here this past Saturday night for my husband's birthday. A friend had told me about it so I thought we should try it. We had the best service, the prices are reasonable, and most of all the food and drinks were excellent!! We couldn't have been happier and had a really great night!! I love good food and I can't wait to come back again for dinner and brunch sounds great too!! "

  • "My boyfriend and I have been to Hugo's many times, and the service is usually great. This past Saturday, however, it wasn't that great. We had a group of 7, and the food was coming out at different times, and several parts were missing from various orders. The bartender is really nice, but it seemed like he was working alone, and because there was a crowd, we had to wait for drinks sometimes. It was supposed to be a special occasion for the Derby, and they told us they were going to make an announcement when the race started and turn up the TVs, but we were in the back of the restaurant, and it looked like this was all happening up front. We actually almost missed the race entirely because we couldn't hear it. "

  • "Hugo's Oyster Bar was an awesome experience...Food was outstanding (great value), Service was great, our waitress, Ebony was a delight and was very knowledgeable about all the items on the menu, including the beer and wine. Blackened Oysters were killer, Lobster was fresh, and my wife's Scallops were a culinary delight. We are definitely going back very soon with friends, so they can experience this gem! "

  • "Food , service, and server were star quality. Our booth was a bit tight, so would appreciate a little more room ( although we really like a booth). Noise level was too much for us; anyway to soften ? Returning on May 10 , reservation at 6:30 for five. See you then. "

  • "Dined here the other night with friends. The friendly waitress let us know that they were out of an item, no biggie. We ordered. She came back and told me that unfortunately, they were now out of the item that I ordered and she was very sorry. Disappointed but okay, I ordered something else. Enjoyed the meal, etc. (a bit too loud but oh well). The next day, I received a call from the restaurant asking me how everything was and I said very nice. Then she asked if they had what I ordered. I told her no, they were out of it. She then told me that she would like to send me a gift certificate to come back so that I can order what I had intended AND that she would also send a card to the other couple. THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. "
