Diner Reviews
  • "Really enjoyed our meal at Hugo's. Oyster sampler was terrific and the Flounder (mine) and Grouper (my wife's) dinners were outstanding. My only comment (negative) is the noise level. Fix this and you have a "A" rated spot."

  • "I hate to say that Hugo's has gone downhill. We have been there 5 or 6 times and always enjoyed our experience. Everyone is always very friendly and accommodating, but the food was awful. We went on a Friday night for their fish fry. The fish was mushy and over cooked. It was actually inedible. We did tell our waiter, but it didn't seem to go any further. In the past the manager has stopped to ask how everything was, but not this time. I think he knew. It was nowhere near as crowded as it usually is."

  • "My son wanted raw oysters for his 15th birthday. We were not dissapointed. All the food was fantastic. I will be back!"

  • "If nothing else, go to support the outstanding effort of these restauranteurs. Hugo's is a great addition to a very popular, yet crowded dining scene in Roswell. The cocktails are unique and delicious, but beware - they are pricy at $8-$9 and go down very easy. You could easily drink away your dining budget. Mostly, our food was wonderful,. I think the cajun dishes may be the way to go. The po boy was better than New Orleans. Oysters were perfect. Crawfish boudin balls were excellent! Sea bass was the special, and although cooked perfectly, the preparation and sides were bland, especially compared to the flavorful cajun dishes on the table. Go on and check it out - you won't be disappointed."

  • "The bananas Foster Cheesecake will make your heart go pitter patter. The spiked coffee is alive! Great service, great food, nice range of prices Love the restaurant & bar, very friendly staff"

  • "The roasted oysters were delicious and the flounder and grilled cobia is a favorite."

  • "Very good quality Cajun cuisine (we had gumbo, trout and flounder and the bread pudding for dessert) and the service was prompt and friendly but the noise level was way too loud for us old fogies on a recent Saturday night. We'll return on a weeknight."

  • "Ebony did an outstanding job of serving our table. The bartender, Sonia, care to our table and graciously welcomed our party. Great service; Great food."

  • "The problem with Oysters being their primary draw (the seafood dishes are good also), is that if you go there for Oysters (as I did) and their Oyster shipment is lousy, the food is lousy. That's what I experienced, overly small, dried up Oysters. In the past, I've had some great Oysters and some not so great. If I owned the restaurant, they'd be better off not serving less than great quality. I bet they are losing some repeat customers because of what I experienced. Service was outstanding."

  • "They have my three favorite beers on tap, fantastic seafood selection, and a nice and active Bar. We have been here 4-5 times in the last few months, and it has become our new favorite. The Sea Bass that they always have on special is fantastic, and they regularly feature crab legs and lobster tail. We like the Hugos special grilled oysters for appetizer or the crab cake, both which are great. We have sat in the restaurant, and at the bar, and have enjoyed it every time."

  • "My husband loves oysters and enjoyed 18 of them! He also had the seafood gumbo, which had a good mix of seafood and vegetables - lots of flavor without being spicy. I tried the rainbow trout with okra and creamed corn and enjoyed my meal. The sweet tea was pretty sweet. Our waitress was friendly and attentive but gave us plenty of time and space to converse without interruptions."

  • "Stopped for an early weekday dinner. Empty parking lot, but were forced to valet. Gumbo was good, not great. Po Boys were OK, very good bread. Best part of the meal was the creamed corn with bacon and peppers.Service was great, friendly and attentive. Looked like folks were enjoying lots of oysters."

  • "We have been to Hugo's as a family several times, and it never fails to disappoint. The food is always spot on, as well as the service. The cocktail list is fun. The noise level can get a little "energetic" on busy nights, but we love it!"

  • "Hugo's Oyster Bar is a wonderful spot on the edge of Roswell! Delicious food, yummy libations, and impeccable service await you if you visit. Huge selection of oyster options...all fresh. Everything from a Po boy sandwich to a full seafood meal, this place has it all. End your meal with one of the delectable dessert options...my favorite was the banana cream cheese cake. The decor, the drinks, the food...all have been carefully prepared and chosen. Hugo's is the whole package!!!"

  • "Excellent food and service. Noise level was lower than most other restaurants visited and much better than many of previous reviews. Would recommend at least for a Monday nite"

  • "1. Oysters were okay, pre-shucked, no real flavor. 2. Caesar salad was ok. Very little dressing. Lettuce was sort of old. 3. King Crab dinner was over cooked. 4. Martini was good and made perfect. 5. Service was good. Friendly staff. 6. Shrimp po' boy sandwich was subpar. Coleslaw was bland, dry, and soft. French fries weren't crunchy."

  • "And I'm not that old! : ) I was sensitive to the noise level b/c we took my parents and my in-laws to the resturant and they really couldn't hear ANYTHING... and they aren't that old either!! Still great food. Service was OK. We had to wait @ 10 mins for our table (we had a reservation) and then our waitress was only fair- very nice, just not a great waitress. We'll still be back though!"

  • "My wife wanted to try Hugo's for her birthday b/c she is a seafood lover. We invited another couple and their child for her birthday dinner. We were pleased upon entering the restaurant. We were greeted by a vibrant, well decorated interior and a very friendly host who knew us from our reservation. Our server, Whitney was awesome! She provided us the specials and added some great suggestions. She also made great conversation and helped keep our little guest at the table satisfied. The food was exceptional and presented well. Everything was tasty. We will be back soon."

  • "While we thought the food was decent, the restaurant was far too loud for the meal to be enjoyable. We were seated in a booth and could barely hear the person sitting right across the table. Also, our server was attentive right when we got seated and then disappeared for the majority of the meal. Very hard to flag down (again -- noisy) and was inattentive for the most part. Would not return for dinner on a weekend night, but might for a weekday lunch."

  • "This was our 3rd or 4th time back at Hugo's. It was delicious as usual. Alex waited on us and was very attentive. He even chased us down in the valet line because we left our to go box on the table. They oysters were superb! Love the chargrilled ones!! Will be back soon!"

  • "This was our first visit to Hugo's Oyster Bar. As the name implies, oysters are something they do well. We had the grilled oysters as an appetizer and they were fabulous! Our entrees were great too. My only not so positive comment was that there were tv's all over the restaurant which did not seem to fit to the menu and atmosphere I think Hugo's should be portraying. Overall it was a great meal and we will definitely be back!"

  • "Is Hugo's trying to be all things to all patrons? The menu is characteristically pretentious and pricey for Roswell, but the decor is all sports bar with big TVs and beer/liquor logos painted on the walls. It's not romantic, but it's not a man-cave either. The food was okay, not spectacular. Wait staff was friendly enough. In the future, I'll pass."

  • "On Mardi Gras the restaurant was very energetic. Nice Louisiana style setting. Oysters were excellent, as was the pecan encrusted grouper. Full bar with lots of specialty liquors."

  • "My husband and I went out for a rare date night. We'd been to Hugo's once before with our kids, and enjoyed it a little more just the two of us. The kids liked their food but got bored after a little while. This time we were able to stay longer and enjoy the bar area for drinks and even dinner, then lingered at the bar."

  • "High points: even though the restaurant was very busy with a walk up wait, our table was ready when we arrived and we were seated immediately. Chargrilled oysters were outstanding and on par with those found in. New Orleans. Entrees were very well prepared. The redfish comes with a tasty fried Mac n cheese. Our server was excellent attentive and new the best of the menu. Only real low point is the noise borders on too loud to have a conversation across the table."

  • "I am sorry but it wasn't the same as in the past. We have been to Hugo's several times and always had a good experience. The service was great as usual and the restaurant is fun but this time a couple of the dishes that we have enjoyed in the past were just downright boring and not up to par. Perhaps it was a new cook or something."

  • "Although not much of an oyster fan, was pleasantly surprised with the delicious Hugo's Oysters. They were flavorful and would recommend to anyone who prefers warm oysters. The Grilled Redfish on the Half Shell and the Grilled Cobia were also delicious. The wait staff was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We are definitely going to come back!"

  • "I would only recommend this restaurant because the food is delicious but THATS IT. It is VERY VERY LOUD both times I went they had run out of quite a few things on the menu. Also the first time we went we had a reservation and they sat us 1 hour late. The second time 15 minutes late. My grouper was the best I have ever tasted BUT they failed to remove a lot of the bones and I almost choked (very embarrassing)."
