A word from Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House - Chicago
After years of searching far and wide for a location to open the follow-up restaurant to the highly successful Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, owners Hugo Ralli and Steve Lombardo found what they were looking for right under their noses. In February of 1997 they launched the seafood companion to the Chicago legend they had created with Gibsons and named it Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House. The restaurant is dedicated to the same principles as its predecessor, unbelievable portions, value and quality coupled with memorable service. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Took a client to dinner last Saturday night. Overall, a great experience. Waitress knowledgeable and friendly. Three of four had great meal, fourth just ok - said swordfish was salty, but would come back again."

  • "The food selection is amazing. The lobster bisque very creamy. The entire meal outstanding."

  • "Food was very nice, as was the wine. However, we felt rushed by our servers. Additionally, the server was in such a hurry, we sloshed melted butter onto the dress of one member of our party. He had a different server bring a moist napkin to her in an attempt to clean the oil from her dress. Needless to say, a white moist napkin on a black dress did not do the job."

  • "The menu is top-notch. Great wine selection and the food and service were outstanding. All in the party are sure to come back."

  • "One of our favorite neighborhood places. A bit noisy, but we're used to it. And we're seniors!"

  • "We had a party of 4. We all enjoyed our appetizers. I had a White Fish that was as dry and flavorless as I have had in a long time. The staff was aggressive in trying to fix the problem. In the end they removed the cost of the item from the bill. Two in our party had the sea bass which they were quite pleased about. The 4th in our party had the salmon which was mediocare at best. I ordered a Pouilly Fuisse 2012 from Louis Judot. They unapoligetically brought a 2013 wothout comment on the vintage until it was pointed out to them that what they had represented on the Wine List was not what they had presented."

  • "Excellent steaks and seafood. Rib eye is off the charts as are the crab legs. Knowledgeable and attentive staff. Only drawback is noise level is high."

  • "A little bit expensive but worth the price! Frog legs are good and the New York strip sirloin is fabulous! A must-go destination at Chicago!"

  • "We were lucky to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night. The restaurant is quite large, misleading from the street. The staff is incredibly friendly and wait service was awesome, with Anthony being there one moment, invisible the next and knowing the menu and how to deal with guests like he has been serving for years. Maybe he has. The menu is excellent, specializing in seafood but partnering with Gibson's next store to offer amazing steaks as well. We just came for appetizers and drinks and left full from a complete meal, once we saw the specials. The portions were very large, the sides shareable and the raw bar oysters and clams fresh and tasty. We will definitely come back next time we are in town."

  • "I always had Hugo's on my list of restaurants in Chicago to try. While it is a bit pricey, it is worth it. I loved it and will be back."

  • "Husband and I came here to celebrate my bday. Had reservation and we were seated immediately. Waitstaff is always attentive but not obtrusive. My husband loves getting the Gibson steak here. Had calamari for appetizer..yumm. Had the hawiiaan yellowfin tuna. ALWAYS.. I love this dish. Choose the sweet potato for my side. HUGE! but it was excellent. My husband got the mushrooms, again, yummy. Will be trying Hugo's in Naperville soon!"

  • "The seafood at Hugo's Frog Bar was absolutely wonderful. However, most sides were ala carte, except for a salad served with the entree. The salad was very lackluster , just iceberg lettuce with a couple of cherry tomatoes. I had an absolutely horrible ranch dressing (tasted like a vinegarette had been mixed in) on my salad."

  • "Excellent service. Took my wife for her birthday and the entire experience was great! They did everything possible to accommodate us and make our dining experience enjoyable, we will definitely return!!!"

  • "We came here for my daughter's birthday per her request, as both of my kids love frogs legs. We started with the crab cake appetizer, which was large enough for the four of us to share. Both kids had frogs legs for dinner, which they said was delicious. I ordered the scallops, which were very good and my husband had the whitefish, which he said was very good. Dessert was a big hit, as we ordered the carrot cake and when it came, it was literally 1/3 of an entire cake, with a large steak knife stuck through the top. Not only was it ridiculous in size, but was absolutely delicious! Our server was great, attentive, friendly and great with the kids. Very funny. Overall, great experience."

  • "We spent a Saturday evening with family enjoying a meal that we don't do often. Staff was great. Actually had to wait for our table even though we had reservations (5:30) while a few others without reservations were seated before us. We tried foods that are not our normal dining options. Food came quickly and was served hot. Cappuccino was a bit light - not a distinct flavor with a strong coffee. Dessert was to die for........."

  • "Despite having to move to a new table because we were seated next to a busy restroom door (when there were at least six open tables in the section), we enjoyed the sea bass and halibut entrees and our waiter and service staff were on point."

  • "Hugo's has a great atmosphere, outside seating if wanted. Menu is fresh and nice options. I appreciate the Gibson's steaks that you can get at Hugo's without the headache of getting a table at Gibson's. Great for dates! Beware, the dessert menu has portions that will feed 6-8 people! I recommend Hugo's highly!"

  • "Hugo's was our only disappointment in a great weekend in Chicago. It took almost 20 minutes to see our waiter, then he forgot several items and finally told us that he had worked all day and did we mind if he billed us out so he could leave. The crab cake was excellent, filet was not cooked medium rare (over cooked)but it was good. If you go, I suggest that you sit outside so if the service is poor then you can people watch."

  • "We arrived for our 9:00 reservation looking forward to our usual great experience. Unfortunately, many of our choices had run out by the time we ordered. (Sweet Potato???) The wedge arrived with no dressing. Our entrees arrived before 2 out of 4 of us had finished our salads, BAD FORM. The giant potato was served on the tiniest plate in the kitchen so it was pretty hard to prepare and then share. All the steaks were overcooked but our waiter insisted "they're perfect". It was almost 10:00 by then and we were too tired to wait for new ones. There are too many fabulous restaurants in Chicago. For the money, Hugo's just dropped off the list."

  • "This restaurant is a Chicago gem. We love coming every time we visit the city. The service is superb, food is exquisite and there's an excellent wine list."

  • "It is obviously a Chicago landmark type of restaurant. It was delicious. But you'll never get in without reservations. And they pack every square inch with customers. Not for the claustrophobic. But it was absolutely delicious.. And pricey too."

  • "Go for the Planked White Fish, Bookbinders soup and sea bass. Everything is good - order the Chocolate Mousse cake IF you have a large party. For small parties, request a table by the front windows - it will be quiet and delightful."

  • "We have been to Hugo's before and it never disappoints. We had friends with us this time who had not been there before. Needless to say, they were quite impressed! Three out of the four took our server's recommendation of the sea bass and each loved it! I chose the tuna, and, it too was magnificent. Oysters Rockefeller and two bottles of Sonoma Cutrer accompanied dinner. Creme Brulee for dessert. Once again, a magnificent evening at Hugo's!"

  • "Nice place on Rush Street. Great service and very good food. Sea Bass preparation was very a very light miso base, lighter than other I have tried and really let the taste of the fish come through. Also had the tuna which was very good. We ate early and the place was pretty quiet but was getting busy by around 7:00 pm. Great Rush street crowd."

  • "Upon arriving we were met with friendly staff and taken to our table right away. (I know!!) Within moments we were greeted by our server, which as you know, isn't always the norm. The wait staff was efficient and friendly. The food was out of this world. I highly recommend the sea bass! As our server said,"It's mind blowing!" It truly was. We were traveling with my son and the staff treated him just as well. In fact, another server even came over to offer him the chef's "secret sauce" for his french fries. Excellent restaurant! Fabulous experience!"
