  • "The menu was creative, regional, and not precious, the food outstanding, nice wine list, and the service superb. It was not a crowded evening, we asked for a quiet table in our reservation but were seated next to an obnoxiously loud group, but the staff kindly and quickly reseated us in a quieter spot. Lovely herb garden and outdoor dining options, funky stone and wood architecture welcome diners into this Hill Country Neighborhood Gem near Austin's Lake Travis."

  • "Hard to not enjoy Hudson's on the Bend; however, unfortunately a couple of shortcomings detracted from an otherwise very good meal. Very alert wait staff removed less than satisfactory appetizer (tough, tastless artichoke detracted from otherwise very tasty dish) from our bill but the homemade ice cream served was not much. The hot'n'crunchy trout remains an exceptional dish."

After waiting at least 20 minutes for him to come take our order, we eventually gave up and flagged down the host. After that, things proceeded more smoothly."

Our server, Ian, was extremely knowledgeable and listened to our questions & requests. Service was attentive but unimposing. Highly recommended for a special dinner."

  • "Hudson on the bend was phenomenal! The dishes served were well prepared, creative and delicious. We started off with a rattlesnake cake as an appetizer. It was similar to a crab cake and loaded with herbs. My husband had the mixed grill with about 4 different game meats-venison ,rabbit quail and buffalo. They were all very good. I had chocolate espresso rubbed elk backstrap topped with crabmeat. This dish was the hit of the evening. The elk was cooked perfectly and it was one again delicious. You also have to appreciate the large herb garden as you walk up to the restaurant. It was a delightful evening and I am sure we will return. The only negative I can offer is these meals were not cheap, but they were well worth it to us."

  • "Once you can brave your way across the atrocious parking lot without breaking an ankle--(ladies, think twice about high heels to this place, I didn't know & I was wearing stilettos!), the restaurant is absolutely amazing. The menu is so unusual, with heavy emphasis on local foods. Lots of game selections, such as venison, rabbit, quail, etc., to go along with traditionals like ahi, salmon & steak. I had the Rattlesnake Cake appetizer, which was delicious with a pesto flavor, & a consistency much like a crabcake. I wouldn't have known it was rattlesnake if I hadn't been told. And upon the recommendation of our wonderful server, I had the Espresso-chocolate-chili-rubbed Elk back strap. Oh was it incredible! So tender & flavorful. "

  • "We couldn't get earlier than an 8:45 reservation but decided we could wait to eat later so we could try this "great" restaurant. We arrived right at 8:45 only to be told rudely by the hostess that she didn't have a table ready but that we could wait *outside* at the bar. While I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, no one offered us a drink, and at least 3 other couples without reservations were seated ahead of us. When we were finally seated, the service was fine at best, much like the food. The only item of note was the mussels. The mixed grill at $53 was bland and chewy & the $16 caprese salad was 3 thinly sliced tomatoes with emaciated basil sprinkled on top. We opted for no dessert since it was 10:30 by the time we finished our main course. "

  • "While we enjoyed sitting at the bar before we ate, we were disappointed in our dinner at Hudson's this week. After reading about it for years, I had great expectations, but the meal was less than expected. I ordered the Tossed Garden Greens salad and the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna. Both were unremarkable. The tuna was tender, but a bit tasteless, and the red chili glaze was overpowering. In fact, after a few bites, I moved the tuna from the glaze and scraped the glaze off before I ate the rest of the tuna. My husband ordered the Bibb Wedge salad and the Mixed Grill. He said the salad was good but definitely not worth the price of $16.95. The Mixed Grill was interesting, but the rabbit was tough and the sausage was a bit disapointing. "

  • "three out of four of our party had the three course tasting menu with wine - good value and all enjoyed their food! The outsider who ordered off the menu had a little spottier experience (the pork belly risotto was quite salty, and the meat somewhat dried out) but the waiter made sure that he could share the wine pairing with the other three so as not to feel left out! Great service, good food, very interesting menu and love the herb/vegetable garden that greets you!"

To me, the first step would be an improvement with the wait staff which compares unfavorably to other Austin area restaurants charging a similar premium price."

  • "Made a reservation through OpenTable and requested a table that was secluded and private for an anniversary. We were seated by the fire place and were wished happy anniversary. Not overlooking this detail was very much appreciated, and set the tone for a special occasion. Scallop appetizer was delicious. Elk backstrap was delicious. Crunchy trout was a little better than decent. While the food was good I did not think it deserved the price tag. The ambience was nice and the waiters had a welcoming/accommodating tone about them. I was hoping for a more scenic view considering the restaurant's location, however the ambience was still quaint. Thank you to the hostess who served as our photographer by the night's end. "

  • "We went to Hudson's on the Bend for the first time after receiving a gift certificate from our son at Christmas. It's a pretty restaurant with nice art on the walls. The wait staff was attentive but unobtrusive. The food was fine. It ranged from good to very good. However, given the prices, I expected more innovative and complex flavors. The menu felt stale--like they figured out what was really new ten years ago and decided to stick with it. If you want to celebrate a special occasion, have a lot of money to spend, and have meat and potatoes eaters in your party, this is a good choice."
