Diner Reviews
  • "The food was surprisingly good. Mussel appetizer was terrific and he sauce was great with the olive bread. I had the octopus appetizer and skate. The octopus was nicely cooked, not tough, but served over a potato salad-like mixture. I would have preferred crispy toast. My skate was tender and pleasantly seasoned. The rigatoni was perfectly cooked, rich sauce but not overpowering. Likewise the carbonara. The highlight of the evening was the unexpected entertainment: a singer accompanied by a keyboardist. They performed well a wide range of jazz and popular songs. The music was pleasant in the background, and startling good at times. Service was efficient and not intrusive. Overall, it was a very nice experience. "

  • "Read the reviews and wasn't sure we were in the same restaurant!!!. For a Saturday night it was dead! One waiter for the whole place. Asked for lemon for the water many times till it was brought. Appetizers brought to share had to ask for utensils to serve. My husbands dinner was very over done. Waiter never came by to ask if everything was ok. When he did bring the bill he noticed that he had not eaten it. Owner walked around asking if everything was ok but obviously didn't look around. Would not return. "

  • "We enjoyed our dinners at Haymount House. Salads were outstanding. Lamb pasta was excellent however the steak left something to be desired. It was nothing special that is it lacked seasoning and appeared dry in spite of the order for medium. Dessert was the cherries and ice cream which was great."

  • "This is a great neighborhood spot, great food and helpful non-intrusive service. Live music on Friday nights added a nice lively touch, good band--but ask for seating in the far room, better for conversation. Salmon and chicken entrees were both delicious, wine recommended by our server was perfect with both--and we liked that bar food was also available in the main dining room on Fridays. Hope to go back more often!"

  • "I was there less then a week ago and service was exceptional. This time we waited 10-15 minutes or sometimes more for the waiter to come back and check on us. Very disappointing. Waited 20 minutes for the check."

  • "Food was outstanding -- gnocchi, beet salad, pear salad appetizers were delicious. Our table also had the short ribs, swordfish, duck and rib eye -- again delicious."

  • "The place was very chilly. They put an electric heater by our table but it didn't help much. Couldn't truly enjoy the dinner due to being cold."

  • "Never heard of the restaurant before learning about it on Open Table. A pleasant local surprise. The food & service were both very good."

  • "This beautifully restored mansion is an elegant and romantic venue, and the food is inventive and delicious. We enjoyed perfectly prepared roasted duck, grilled octopus and luscious ricotta gnocchi. The owners are charming, and the service is friendly and unobtrusive. Highly recommended!"

  • "Been here before for special occasions & the food was delish, so couldn't pass up the opportunity for an Amazon local deal and excuse for a date night! Dirty martini at the bar was perfect... service (bartender, hostess and our waiter!!) was really great for a busy night and the food was amazing too! We were one of the last to leave and didn't feel rushed out at all. Wish I would have gotten the octopus entree instead of the appetizer bc it was soooo good!! My duck entree was good though ... And my husband loved his salad app and pork chop entree. The spatzel with my husband's pork chop was divine and I wish they'd put it on the sides menu :)"

  • "I was disappointed how expensive the wine list was. The wine pairing was a nice touch but was to pricy for the amount you were given. The food was very good and the perfect portion. The place is georgous."

  • "The food was good. Our waiter didn't really fit in with the standards that you would expect from the Haymount House. He screwed up our order a couple of times. Beautifully renovated outside & inside. Nice view of the Hudson River. We were lucky to catch a pretty sunset. The regular menu is somewhat limited."

  • "Heard mixed things about Haymont House. Our table for four was great. Windows looking out to the Hudson River, The house is amazing and the history fascinating. The interior has been restored to a large degree and is beautiful - the only thing that doesnt work in my mind is the modern lighting. But it doesnt take away too much from the overall feel. Our dinner was excellent. Service was unpolished but they really did aim to please and were a happy staff. We would definately go back. If you can relax about the subtle imperfections - you will have a very enjoyable experience."

  • "From the moment we walked into the restaurant foyer we knew the service was going to be bad. No one greeted us or asked if we had a reservation. We had to find someone to check in- went to the bar located off the foyer and asked a overwhelmed/busy bartender if we could check in. He pretty much ignored us. My husband waited at the hostess station for almost 5 minutes before someone returned and explained that they had a large private party that might. We sat about the bar for about 20 minutes before being seated. We waited for someone to take drink orders, waited again for someone to take food order- in general we spent a lot of time waiting. It was clear that they were not prepared for the large party on a Saturday night."

  • "I loved the decor at Hudson at Haymount House. The view is breath taking and the interior decor is beautiful. The service was exceptional but the food was only fair, nothing exciting about it. I had the short ribs which were good, but my husband's chicken was tasteless. I would go there for dessert or a drink in the beautiful bar, but I'ld skip dinner."

  • "The entire place has been update and the decor is beautiful and comfortable. The menu is quite varied and the food is artful and delicious!"

  • "The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The ribs absolutely melted in your mouth. The owner came over to check on us and shared that there is music on Thursday and Friday nights. I will definitely return!"

  • "Read the reviews on YELP and was hesitant about going but glad I did. The restaurant wasn't busy but the overall experience was great. Good service, good food, everyone was polite and accommodating. Beautiful building, beautiful views. Parking was right there. Overall I can't find a bad thing to say about the experience. Will definitely go back."

  • "What a disappointment!! The food was not worth the price, the service was ridiculously slow. We felt like they forgot about our order!! OR, the kitchen closed down or something!! We didn't bother with dessert as it took them an hour and a half to bring us our dinner!! We did not want to watch the sunrise!! Perhaps if we were seated near a window we wouldn't have noticed the long wait. So I can't even say it was worth the views...When one of the owners came over to greet us, we were able to let him know how long we were waiting for our meals. Then the food came out 5 minutes later...My hubbie ordered the salmon, it was dry. I ordered the lamb shank with paparadelle. There was hardly any lamb in it!!"

  • "Just elegant enough, but not over the top. Comfortable but special. I always thoroughly enjoy my experience at Haymount House. I happen to like Cosmopolitans, and this is one of the few places where I can get a good one. The wine offerings are varied enough, I always find the food to be good, and one of the owners usually wanders about to say hello. A great place to meet a friend for a cocktail or glass of wine - equally good for a lovely dinner with your husband. And there's music to boot. Enough said? One of my favorite places to go."

  • "We went on Thurs. night and they had live music (piano player & singer). Dining area is cozy with a view of the outdoors and Hudson River in distance. Food was excellent along with service. Owner made his rounds to see how everything was going. Bar was busy with a reserved crowd and not loud. Great plave for any occasion."

  • "Valentine"s Day menu was excellent, well worth it and offered an array of different entrees. Wait staff was very friendly. And most of all very reasonable pre-fix menu with a live jazz band. Every lady was given a red rose, what a nice touch to end the night. Will mostly like go back and recommend!"

  • "This is the second time my wife and I have dined at Haymount House. The food is well plated and tasty and the service is excellent. The staff is friendly and eager to please patrons. The visit to the table by the owner added to the personal and caring attitude we experienced. I'm sure the grounds and views during the warmer months will further enhance the time at Haymount House."

  • "My wife and I went for Valentine's Day. The restaurant is housed in a beautifully restored historic mansion, magnificent setting. We arrived early -- 8:45 for a 9:00 reservastion so we could have a drink at the bar. Drinks were great, bartenders were average -- seemed upset when we moved our seats when a couple left. At 9:20, i went to check on our table. The hostess appeared to have forgotten that we were waiting -- there were a number of open tables, but she hadn't come to get us. We were led to a great table with a lovely view down to the Hudson. Food was excellent, but servers forgot soup spoons, steak knives and we had to ask twice for refills on water. If they can improve the service, this will be a knockout place!"

  • "The food is very good, but the service needs a total rehaul. The atmosphere would be perfect if the service was better. Kudos to the managers for bringing in live music events!"

  • "Has potential, but not excuted well. [FYI: the building exterior was used as Tara from "GWTW", literally.] Sadly, the place has a split personality - 1/2 romatic restaurant, and 1/2 banquet hall. We were seated in a gigantic room, with at least 6 disco chandeliers pulsing above with changing colors. Because the space was so big, the room felt empty - giving the impression that unpopular. Recommend a folding partition to cordof off space. And get rid of the changing colors lighting. Better yet, use a gauze drape to camoflauge them. Food was fine. If the ambiance were nicer, I think the food would "taste better". Since I felt like I was in a wedding hall, the food tasted like I was in a wedding hall."

  • "About our 5th time at this neighborhood gem in Briarcliff; entrees never cease to amaze - only issue was the service was slower than usual - the restaurant was pretty busy but maybe an additional server on Saturday nights will help."

  • "Went here for dinner on a frigid Wed night in Jan and can't wait to come back when the weather warms up to experience the beautiful views and everything else Haymount has to offer. While we enjoyed our table by the wood burning fire -- the restaurant could have been warmer overall. The staff was friendly even if the service was a little bit spotty. The owner came around to greet each table, which was nice, and he genuinely seems to care about making Haymount more than just a restaurant for people to dine on special occasions. The winter harvest salad, gnocchi and ribeye were first-rate. Can't wait to try brunch and Happy Hour on Thurs or Fri night when they have live music."
