Diner Reviews
  • "The Hudson River Sunset was great and the building is like stepping out of the Deep South . Food was amazing , they just need to better train some of their staff . Waitress was unattentive and green !!!!"

  • "What a wonderful old building in great shape. Very romantic as they don't pack in the tables. While the food was great, we had a server that, despite trying hard, was very, very inexperienced. From not knowing the beer or wine list (and the restaurant doesn't have a printed drink menu) to not bringing a pen to sign the credit card bill, he was incredibly nice and tried hard, but no one has ever shown him all the right things to do in a restaurant that this one wants to be. Overall, we'd go back as the food was worth it, but I hope they spend some time training their sales staff."

  • "Restauranteur David Breschell has created a wonderful atmosphere for enjoying farm to table food in this mansion tucked away on a hill in a residential neighborhood in Ossining just off Rt 9A. Perfect choice for a special dinner with your beloved, or a group of friends."

  • "This is near our house and we hadn't tried it because it is a bit pricey. With the groupon for 2 (appetizer, 2 entrees, a dessert, and 2 glasses of wine) and two extra drinks and tip/tax we ended up spending about $110. I would definitely buy the groupon again as I think it ended up being a good value but this is too pricey for us normally. Service was friendly but not polished. The view from the back room of the sunset was gorgeous. Food was not exciting but very well executed."

  • "setting is beautiful however no umbrellas on the outside . Man had a walker needed help with stairs to the entrance and then to the table and stairs leading to bathroom the best thing was the beautiful sunset. No valet parking. Very disappointing"

  • "Arrived for a 6:30 reservation, food was served to us at 8:40. The waitress kept apologizing saying it would be out in a few minutes. The food was not worth waiting for. I would only go here to have a drink outside in the back where it is beautiful"

  • "Refurbishing - excellent! I ordered the salmon, which was delicious, as well as the beets, asparagus and potatoes - all perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband ordered the ny strip steak, med rare, which came overcooked a bit and was tough - certainly not worth $38. The service was another story - amateurish. The flourless chocolate cake was unimpressive. The bar was very inviting, and I might go back and try the brunch and give it another try. Hopefully the service will be better. Hope they get their act together - would like to see this become as successful as it was in the heyday of Maison Lafitte! Overall it was ok - felt like we were paying for the view - glad we had the coupon!"

  • "Beautiful sunset setting with the Hudson River in foreground in a wonderfully restored antebellum type mansion. Every detail was thought out & the food & service was close to perfect. Farm to table concept was accomplished with appetizers & entrees. Duck breast almost as good as an excellent Paris restaurant. Owner was very cordial & invited us to view the artwork hanging in the second floor. A great overall experience & even the prices were reasonable"

  • "Lovely old mansion situated on a crest with a vista and Hudson in the background. Staff really work to accommodate patrons - we felt welcomed by the attentive wait staff. Sunday brunch was nicely done and dining was enhanced by a lovely view onto the grounds and distant Hudson. Will consider this spot in future when dining out with friends."

  • "Love the food. Place is well maintained. Continue to hope that the service and finer touches are added to complete the experience. Menu had stains, greeter was unkempt, service was spotty. Took two requests and more that 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee at brunch. We really want this wonderful historic restaurant to succeed."

  • "After 2 great experiences at Hudson at Haymount House, is this the end?! Went for dinner with two friends and my significant other. While the appetizers were good, the pork chops were horrid. Can get better at a diner. Over fried and dry on 2 separate plates. Hair in my drink from the bar and most of all terrible, terrible service. There was only one gentleman around who seemed to know anything about the menu or wines. The female server was a disappointment. I hope the manager takes this seriously and works to get the restaurant back to the standard that first impressed us and left us hungry for more."

  • "Nice views and decor, but terrible service, and just "ok" food. Would not recommend. Can do much better for the price..."

  • "After being told that most items on the menu were either not available or had been changed, we left without ordering. They also had no napkins, apparently they had just been delivered as someone was busy folding."

  • "I've been to the Haymount House over 6 times because the food is delicious and it has such beautiful views. Having said that the slowness of service is becoming a serious problem that will eventually deter me from returning. At one point we did not see our waiter for over 30 minutes. Even after asking the owner to send our waiter over it still was another 15 minutes before we saw someone to take our bill. It seems to me the place is either lacking enough employees or they seriously don't have a concept of time. I can see how this will keep possible diners from returning. I truly wish I had nothing to complain about but this is not the first time. It would be a real shame to lose this neighborhood gem due to something so fixable."

  • "This is some of the best food in Westchester. Real variety of dishes. Something for everyone on the menu, from simple fish tacos or meatballs to a fine halibut that I had that had layers of flavor and wonderful sauces. The food is farm to table and local. Portions were plentiful and the menu is fairly priced. Service was good and efficient. The waiter young but friendly and wanting to please. The setting is beautiful. The owner, David is a nice person and very accommodating. We wanted a table outside but all the tables were taken. He had them bring another table outside for us to see the sunset over the Hudson River. This is a rare find."

  • "Thank you, Haymount, for making my evening! The restaurant is simply lovely and we were able to sit outside which was beautiful. Our waiter was attentive and friendly but not annoying. I had the Angus New York strip steak for dinner - very delicious. The coconut milk brioche bread pudding was really amazing as well. I’m looking forward to going back on a Thursday for ladies night to hear music."

  • "We sat outside on a beautiful back porch overlooking the Hudson River. What a sunset, while drinking a delicious cocktail. This must be the best outside dining in Westchester County. Tasty food. Nice service. They really made us feel so comfortable."

  • "I ate here last year and the food and ambience were excellent but the service had some kinks to work out. This time the food was divine, particularly the octopus appetizer and the pork cutlet buried under a mound of arugula and tomatoes; summer on a plate. The service has now been brought up to the level of the food. Our waiter was friendly, on top of things and recommended food that we enjoyed. A really nice night."

  • "Such a beautiful spot, and the food is great. Service is lacking and we were not made to feel comfortable. The place was nearly empty. We sat outside which was nice, but we felt terrible for the musician who was playing to an empty room inside."

  • "I hesitate to say too much, because the evening was so bad that Dave paid for our entire meal. The food is excellent but this restaurant desperately needs a professional in the front of the house."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "It's a beautiful location. The food was good. Our server only had two tables to take care of, but he was never around. When he was visible he never gave our table a glance. We repeatedly had to flag him down to get service. We definitely won't go back."

  • "When we first arrived, the hostess tried to seat us at a tiny table against a wall in a dark spot (talk about clostraphobic) right across from the music. I asked if we could have a table on the porch (there were plenty available). She hesitated, went to ask someone (why I don't know) and finally gave in. My friend had the mussels and French fries, which she liked; however, part of my chicken was raw, and the basmati rice was greasy. I also found it annoying that the waitress came and refilled our water (even when it was almost full) about 12-15 times! I have better food - and really good portions - for a fraction of your price at the Croton Diner! Nope, wouldn't eat at your place again..."

  • "Hate to say, this was probably the worst service I have had in years. The server was nice, overly apologetic, but the reality is I will not come back here. Shame since they had such good potential. Took over 30 mins just to get in a drink order. One of our fish orders was not edible. This place needs a drastic overhaul."

  • "We always enjoy dining at this local restaurant! Food is well presented and delicious. Gorgeous views of the Hudson River from the back patio and porch areas. Soft jazz music adds a lovely touch to the evening."

  • "We had a lovely evening at Hudson at Haymount House. The food was delicious. The space is lovely and elegant without being at all stuffy. It was exactly what I was hoping for. Everything was great. A good find!"

  • "New summer menu at Haymount House! Very good tapenade to start was worthy of Provence, but would be easier to eat if toasts are provided for dipping. Loved the halibut with Israeli couscous in a mildly spicy sauce. Salmon was cooked to perfection and nicely accompanied now by beets. Have not had a bad dessert here yet. View of the Hudson River is lovely on a summer evening."

  • "We have eaten here half a dozen times since we discovered it a few months ago. This is what we love: fantastic views of the Hudson river, gracious interior (with working fireplace), elegant and attentive service, lovely bar, and really great food, beautifully presented. The entrance alone is worth a visit. The menu is not intimidating - there is even a hamburger - and not overpriced, but lick-your-plate delicous. There is always something new that we can't wait to try. This time we had the roasted beet salad, fettucine bolognese and the best bread pudding ever, for dessert. Each of these dishes was fantastic and somehow original and fresh and fun to eat. such a jewel of a place, Kudos."

  • "Dining in the Mansion was a lovely way to spend a spring evening. The sun setting on the Hudson River was amazing. It was a Sunday night of Memorial Day Weekend so it was very, very quiet. We were the only people at the bar and that was a bit unusual. The service was good but they seemed overwhelmed?? "

  • "We used a Groupon and when we saw the place felt like we'd made an amazing discovery. The food was only about a B/B- though. "

  • "If you're looking for a special place to go for a romantic dinner or dinner with good friends where you can actually hear each other talk, Hudson at Haymount House is the place to go. The food is superb (I had the Prince Edward Island Mussels and Halibut, the service very attentive and excellent and the ambience top notch. Be sure to ask for a table by the windows so you will be able to get a beautiful view of the grounds and the Hudson River. I highly recommend Hudson at Haymount House and will definitely go back again."

  • "We had the best night! The food was amazing - I loved the port poached mission fig salad. The service was truly attentive and professional. The owner was friendly and went out of his way to make sure everything was right. It's a beautiful place and there's live music on Thursday and Friday nights. I highly recommend it. "

  • "Came with the hubby and had quick drink at the bar. That quick drink turned into a quick " small bite"! They just added a whole section to the menu, for little food items! Had the homage ricotta with this local pepper jam on crostini, haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Then we sat for dinner to an amazing view we think, it was raining, but we saw lights off in the distant which made us think it would be gorgeous. He loved his Pork Milanese and for me it was the Octopus that really hit the spot! Service was of course attentive, as expected. Looking forward to going back soon, according to a flyer, there will be a Tuesday burger special soon. Can't wait to see the real view in the evening, not the fake one from my imagination!"

  • "My wife and I had dinner last week (2nd time) at this gem of a place in Westchester. The interior style presents well as both a upscale casual place to dine or a romantic retreat for dinner with scenic views of the Hudson. Food was excellent. We started with salmon tartare & grilled octopus salad. Both recommended. Since I am not meat-friendly, I decided on the Atlantic skate, which I don't often see on menus. It came sautéed, perfectly cooked, with sides of potato puree + Romaine. My wife had the NY Strip steak which was well worth the price. We finished the evening with 2 desserts which we shared: the chocolate and the warm apple crisp. Both yummy. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Go and enjoy - we heartily recommend this place!"

  • "What a jewel! This Haymount House restaurant has the most astonishing Hudson views at sunset and the best atmosphere. I was just delighted to have dinner there for the second time at this beautiful and classic restaurant, with its excellently tasty gourmet food and its first-class service; the price is quite fair for the totality of the experience. No wonder at my first dinner there, the Rockefellers were holding a business dinner next to my table. Now I just looking forward, my cousin's wedding celebration will be held there. "

  • "I hadn't been back here in a while and was so happy I did. New menu, mixing formal and casual items. First, I had a ricotta and hot pepper jam crostini from their "small bites" section of the menu. So unique. Then I had the best fish taco as an appetizer and roasted duck breast as a main meal. I had read a review from an Esquire Magazine writer saying that it was the "best duck in America". I agree. So much flavour. The setting is beautiful, with a sunset over the Hudson River. The service was really good. The server was friendly and prompt and knew the menu from top to bottom. We wanted for nothing the entire night. They now are having weekday specials. I want to come back for the Wednesday suckling pig or live music on Thurs+Friday."
