Haymount House is a hidden jewel, located in a neighborhood surrounded by houses, trees, and beautiful landscape. You can see the sunset over the Hudson here, but you may miss it because you would be so interested in the food, (try the duck breast). The service is also outstanding, we were introduced to the owner, David, and chatted easily with the waiters and hostess. We first went there for a special occasion, but after our experience there, we decided that any day is a good one to go.

What a wonderful old building in great shape. Very romantic as they don't pack in the tables. While the food was great, we had a server that, despite trying hard, was very, very inexperienced. From not knowing the beer or wine list (and the restaurant doesn't have a printed drink menu) to not bringing a pen to sign the credit card bill, he was incredibly nice and tried hard, but no one has ever shown him all the right things to do in a restaurant that this one wants to be. Overall, we'd go back as the food was worth it, but I hope they spend some time training their sales staff.

Overall, a good experience. Only have a view on the river if you're outside, which we weren't. Pretty restaurant and setting though. The service could be better. Young kids who don't know much about food or drinks. Seem inexperienced. Had to wait awhile for our check and it wasn't very busy. Waiter was a nice guy, a little rough around the edges though for a nicer restaurant like this.

  • First time - with groupon

This is near our house and we hadn't tried it because it is a bit pricey. With the groupon for 2 (appetizer, 2 entrees, a dessert, and 2 glasses of wine) and two extra drinks and tip/tax we ended up spending about $110. I would definitely buy the groupon again as I think it ended up being a good value but this is too pricey for us normally. Service was friendly but not polished. The view from the back room of the sunset was gorgeous. Food was not exciting but very well executed.

Refurbishing - excellent! I ordered the salmon, which was delicious, as well as the beets, asparagus and potatoes - all perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband ordered the ny strip steak, med rare, which came overcooked a bit and was tough - certainly not worth $38. The service was another story - amateurish. The flourless chocolate cake was unimpressive. The bar was very inviting, and I might go back and try the brunch and give it another try. Hopefully the service will be better. Hope they get their act together - would like to see this become as successful as it was in the heyday of Maison Lafitte! Overall it was ok - felt like we were paying for the view - glad we had the coupon!

Beautiful sunset setting with the Hudson River in foreground in a wonderfully restored antebellum type mansion. Every detail was thought out & the food & service was close to perfect. Farm to table concept was accomplished with appetizers & entrees. Duck breast almost as good as an excellent Paris restaurant. Owner was very cordial & invited us to view the artwork hanging in the second floor. A great overall experience & even the prices were reasonable

Sunday brunch was nicely done and dining was enhanced by a lovely view onto the grounds and distant Hudson. Will consider this spot in future when dining out with friends.

Love the food. Place is well maintained. Continue to hope that the service and finer touches are added to complete the experience. Menu had stains, greeter was unkempt, service was spotty. Took two requests and more that 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee at brunch. We really want this wonderful historic restaurant to succeed.

After 2 great experiences at Hudson at Haymount House, is this the end?! Went for dinner with two friends and my significant other. While the appetizers were good, the pork chops were horrid. Can get better at a diner. Over fried and dry on 2 separate plates. Hair in my drink from the bar and most of all terrible, terrible service. There was only one gentleman around who seemed to know anything about the menu or wines. The female server was a disappointment. I hope the manager takes this seriously and works to get the restaurant back to the standard that first impressed us and left us hungry for more.

I've been to the Haymount House over 6 times because the food is delicious and it has such beautiful views. Having said that the slowness of service is becoming a serious problem that will eventually deter me from returning. At one point we did not see our waiter for over 30 minutes. Even after asking the owner to send our waiter over it still was another 15 minutes before we saw someone to take our bill. It seems to me the place is either lacking enough employees or they seriously don't have a concept of time. I can see how this will keep possible diners from returning. I truly wish I had nothing to complain about but this is not the first time. It would be a real shame to lose this neighborhood gem due to something so fixable.

This is some of the best food in Westchester. Real variety of dishes. Something for everyone on the menu, from simple fish tacos or meatballs to a fine halibut that I had that had layers of flavor and wonderful sauces. The food is farm to table and local. Portions were plentiful and the menu is fairly priced. Service was good and efficient. The waiter young but friendly and wanting to please. The setting is beautiful. The owner, David is a nice person and very accommodating. We wanted a table outside but all the tables were taken. He had them bring another table outside for us to see the sunset over the Hudson River. This is a rare find.

I ate here last year and the food and ambience were excellent but the service had some kinks to work out. This time the food was divine, particularly the octopus appetizer and the pork cutlet buried under a mound of arugula and tomatoes; summer on a plate. The service has now been brought up to the level of the food. Our waiter was friendly, on top of things and recommended food that we enjoyed. A really nice night.

When we first arrived, the hostess tried to seat us at a tiny table against a wall in a dark spot (talk about clostraphobic) right across from the music. I asked if we could have a table on the porch (there were plenty available). She hesitated, went to ask someone (why I don't know) and finally gave in. My friend had the mussels and French fries, which she liked; however, part of my chicken was raw, and the basmati rice was greasy. I also found it annoying that the waitress came and refilled our water (even when it was almost full) about 12-15 times! I have better food - and really good portions - for a fraction of your price at the Croton Diner! Nope, wouldn't eat at your place again...

Hate to say, this was probably the worst service I have had in years. The server was nice, overly apologetic, but the reality is I will not come back here. Shame since they had such good potential. Took over 30 mins just to get in a drink order. One of our fish orders was not edible. This place needs a drastic overhaul.

New summer menu at Haymount House! Very good tapenade to start was worthy of Provence, but would be easier to eat if toasts are provided for dipping. Loved the halibut with Israeli couscous in a mildly spicy sauce. Salmon was cooked to perfection and nicely accompanied now by beets. Have not had a bad dessert here yet. We have eaten here half a dozen times since we discovered it a few months ago. This is what we love: fantastic views of the Hudson river, gracious interior (with working fireplace), elegant and attentive service, lovely bar, and really great food, beautifully presented. The entrance alone is worth a visit. The menu is not intimidating - there is even a hamburger - and not overpriced, but lick-your-plate delicous. There is always something new that we can't wait to try. This time we had the roasted beet salad, fettucine bolognese and the best bread pudding ever, for dessert. Each of these dishes was fantastic and somehow original and fresh and fun to eat. such a jewel of a place, Kudos.

    Dined on 5/16/2014
Came with the hubby and had quick drink at the bar. That quick drink turned into a quick " small bite"! They just added a whole section to the menu, for little food items! Had the homage ricotta with this local pepper jam on crostini, haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Then we sat for dinner to an amazing view we think, it was raining, but we saw lights off in the distant which made us think it would be gorgeous. He loved his Pork Milanese and for me it was the Octopus that really hit the spot! Service was of course attentive, as expected. Looking forward to going back soon, according to a flyer, there will be a Tuesday burger special soon. Can't wait to see the real view in the evening, not the fake one from my imagination!
