A word from Huber's Restaurant
Established in 1879, Huber's is Portland's Oldest Restaurant. It was originally called the "Bureau Saloon". Mr. Huber was involved from the beginning as a bartender, bought out the original owner then changed the name to Huber's.
In the old days if you bought a drink you got a free turkey sandwich. This is how the turkey tradition started. Today Huber's cooks 150 lbs of turkey a day. It's Thanksgiving everyday at Huber's serving a traditional turkey dinner every day. We also serve Certified Angus Beef and fresh seafood. Huber's is also known for its famous Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table-side with great fanfare. It's is a lot of fun and very tasty. Come in and enjoy Old Portland at its best.

  • Dinner with out of town guests

Our reservation was made for 7:15. Upon arrival, they had no table for us. We were told to stand in a cramped corner of the bar, where we waited for 40 minutes until they had a table ready. The halibut was dry and way overcooked - can do much better at home ourselves. The montreal filet with gorgonzola was outstanding. Spanish coffees were fun. Disappointed that the waiter came back after taking our orders, 15 minutes later and said they were out of potatoes. We all had to choose yams or french fries. When I am paying over $400 for dinner with out of town guests, I expect way better. On the plus side, we still managed to have a good night because of everyone's positive attitudes. The steak was outstanding, which helped make up for all of the incompetence. Our waiter was OK. He did discount our ticket by $6.00, although that seemed pretty paltry to us. Bottom line, Ringside steaks are better and the service there is impeccable. I won't be returning to Huber's, but I would recommend it for lunch or a Spanish coffee.

Made a reservation here at the request of an out of town guest who had heard good things. We arrived ten minutes early and were told our table wasn't ready even though the hosts seated several parties who had walked in behind us. At 6:05 they explained the reservation before us was still seated so we would have to wait for them. They left a minute later and we were seated in the center of an extremely noisy bar. Not a great atmosphere for dinner. Food was subpar and spendy, service was even less successful buy consistent with the experience we'd had by that point. Definitely not worth the trouble it was.

This is a Portland institution I'm not sure why. The waiter was utterly indifferent and the food was mediocre. Nonetheless I think this opinion is in the minority as the place was jammed which also contributed to the noise.

Huber's has a reputation for turkey dinners and Spanish Coffee and the old charm of a stained- glass ceiling. These are well deserved, but it is more than that. It is a great special occasion dinner spot when you want a lively atmosphere. Good food and drinks, a traditional though varied menu, and attentive service. Hubers is not the place for a quiet conversation It is a good choice when you are a lively group or you want to be in an energetic crowd, Reservations recommended- there was a line out the door at 10 pm on a Friday.

I was really looking forward to an old school dining experience at Huber's Cafe. Unfortunately, they seem to be coasting on their past reputation and people's fond memories. The place looked a bit worn out, and the service was not good (waitress messed up our salad order, brought the wrong appetizer, didn't explain ordering options, etc.) But worst of all was the food. I ordered the half and half (half turkey/half ham). It was like something served at a nursing home. Mashed potatoes tasted like they were out of a box. Broccoli was woody. Artichoke dip served with tri-colored tortilla chips like something from Chillis (and not even full chips, crumbled pieces). Very disappointing.

Open Table seems to have some issues. I received a reminder email about our reservation and I clicked on "change" as I had a couple in our group cancel. Your website wouldn't accept the change. I emailed Open Table and the person that replied could not even find that we had a Reservation. Now Open Table is asking how it was. You seem to have some problems in your software. Don

We decided to hit an old favorite on our way to the opening night of the opera and we were not disappointed...for the most part. Our reservation was met promptly and courteously. Our server was awesome and took note of our time limitations. The owner/general manager came and greeted us at our table, which was nice. The food was served quickly but just ok. My parents (frequent visitors in the 80's and 90's) said it just wasn't what it was back in the good old days. Could have been nostalgia so I ordered Spanish coffees and things improved dramatically ;). The Spanish coffees were and still are amazing and the service is outstanding!

We had a great time! We arrive a little early and sat at the bar, ordered the Spanish Coffee, don't miss it. The bartender engages in a little exhibition bartending when making this drink. The service was great and the food was good. The noise level is fine, easy to carry on a conversation, but if you want it quiet I would suggest sitting in the front dining room. We sat in the back room with the bar and enjoyed every moment of your dining experience.

Four (4) of us had a great meal (each of us ordered something different). Service was outstanding. People were talking but the noise level was low so that enabled us to have a conversation as well. Never felt rushed. We were there on a Sunday evening and there seemed to be a lot of walk in traffic. Luckily, some tables yet available. If I'm ever in Portland again, I would certainly make a visit to Huber's.

We love Huber's and will be back, but I was very disappointed in the service this trip. It was busy but our waiter seemed to be absent from the area most of the time. A new waiter wondering around tried to help us a couple times but knew nothing about the menu. Not sure why he'd be working the floor when he couldn't help. Our server was knowledgeable but so absent and slow it was frustrating.

The food was good and the service was also. We especially enjoyed watching the waiters make the flaming drinks -- very impressive. The back dining room, however, was extremely loud. We had to shout at each other just to be heard, which is what everyone else was doing, too. Carpeting would have helped. It was also pretty crowded in there. The front room appeared much more sedate, but we weren't given an option.

I have never been to Portland before and I looked through the Portland app. This was close and had most of the food choices that our group wanted. We got there and learned of the history 135 yrs in business and 103 in current location. To survive that long the food had to be phenomenal. Which the food was amazing. And if you drink liquor quickly try the Spanish Coffee... I liked it cold.

This is a different kind of restaurant. Legitimately old, intimate ambience and fun at the same time. The specialize in turkey for some reason and i got a sliced turkey app with delicious and spicy dipping sauce. The seafood Cioppino was the best I have ever had. Beer-attered onion rings were crisp, but deeply tasty. Their drink specialty is Spanish Coffee, a combo of rum, liqueurs, coffee and flames mixed table-side. Would be worth the show even if it didn't taste really good. And it's all amazingly reasonable in price. Highly recommended.
