A word from Huber's Restaurant
Established in 1879, Huber's is Portland's Oldest Restaurant. It was originally called the "Bureau Saloon". Mr. Huber was involved from the beginning as a bartender, bought out the original owner then changed the name to Huber's.
In the old days if you bought a drink you got a free turkey sandwich. This is how the turkey tradition started. Today Huber's cooks 150 lbs of turkey a day. It's Thanksgiving everyday at Huber's serving a traditional turkey dinner every day. We also serve Certified Angus Beef and fresh seafood. Huber's is also known for its famous Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table-side with great fanfare. It's is a lot of fun and very tasty. Come in and enjoy Old Portland at its best.

Diner Reviews
  • "Second visit Super server!! But Spanish coffee presentation poor compared to our first visit. It was truly a show in January but this time there was NO show we had no interaction it was almost like we weren't there!???"

  • "All good. Food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Would certainly recommend to family and friends. Spanish coffee is a must. It really packs a punch! The bill was a little on the high side, but it was worth every penny. Make sure you go during one of the two happy hours offered to save a little cash."

  • "This was my third Huber's experience - my second time ordering the Rib Eye - and once again I enjoyed the best steak I've ever had. The waiter looked a bit like Fred Armisen mocked up for a Portlandia sketch (and acted the part, too), but I suppose that's only fitting given the location. Huber's claims their specialty is turkey, but I've not been able to talk myself into it knowing the perfection available on the beef menu (I've had the seafood pasta in the past and it was an all-time favorite as well). I also finally ordered a Spanish Coffee, and while you get a dazzling display for your $10, you also get a generous helping of Bacardi. My third perfect meal at Huber's prompted me to write this, my first ever restaurant review."

  • "Good food and a neat setting made for a great experience after rolling the dice judging from reviews and pics on the Open Table app. Service was fast and friendly and if you order the Spanish coffee you get a little table side show! We didn't have desert as we were headed to VooDoo."

  • "I arrived early to meet for drinks. No happy hour drink specials but there was discount food. The spinach dip was so good! We stayed for dinner. I had the half & half (ham & turkey). All very good but I wouldn't call it exceptional. The best part of the dining experience was the atmosphere. It's a beautiful room. Try to get seated in the bar area, which has the stained glass natural light ceiling! I'd go back."

  • "So delicious!! I got the turkey dinner and it was so good. Everything tasted homemade. Get the spanish coffee even just for entertainment purposes."

  • "my companions ordered the turkey special which they said was wonderful-just like Thanksgiving. I had the halibut with lemon butter sauce, but the sauce had either flour or corn starch as a thickener and it was really disappointing--too thick and not much flavor."

  • "Huber's never disappoints. We were offered a table in the more historic bar room, but it was a bit noisy so we elected to eat in the more humble front dining room. The food was delightful as always, and watching a waiter make a Spanish Coffee at the table retained its charm and wonder. Service was impeccable, and the turkey was delicious as usual. Just keep in mind Huber's is a "chicken free" zone-- many turkey, meat, and seafood options, but no chicken."

  • "We had their Filet Mignon topped with Gorgonzola cheese. It was cooked perfectly, tender, and very tasty. My husband and I shared the steak which left room for an appetizer off their Happy Hour menu. The only negative was the noise level, it was a challenge to carry on a conversation without shouting."

  • "This restaurants food was amazing! Service was excellent and the price was only $110.00 for four people. This included two Spanish coffees and desert for three. We had a great time."

  • " My experience was flawless. The Spanish coffee was awesome, as the guy serving made it with epic style. Our waitress was very attentive and kind, worthy of praise. The hostess even told my guest happy birthday! Wow Huber's, I will be back for certain. Those Spanish coffees.... Dayummm."

  • "Huber's is my favorite restaurant in Portland! Always outstanding; food beautifully presented. I had the Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad and it was delicious and so very plentiful. My three friends were awed by the ambience and the high quality of service and the beauty of the interior. We all wanted a Spanish Coffee but they had to go back to work so we are coming again in the afternoon for that treat! I eat out often and try many new places and return to old tried and true ones. But I can honestly say Huber's has the number one space in my heart for a special restaurant. I love it!"

  • "We had another excellent meal at Huber's. My only comment is that, because it was a nice evening, we decided to eat outside. This was a mistake because, although it was very nice, the real charm of Huber's is their back room, a beautiful bar that's a classic speakeasy from the prohibition era. So by all means, eat at Huber's, but take advantage of their beautiful indoor ambiance."

  • "The waiter's attitude needs some re-calibration. A member in my party ordered a rare NY steak. The steak came as medium rare. When complained to the waiter, we were surprised to hear his response as if he was not willing to replace the steak with a rare steak. Any reputable eatery would have voluntarily done so without being told to. But we had to bluntly told the waiter to replace the steak before he would act on it. Quite a great disappointment!!"

  • "We have came to the bar after the blues cruise for years. The group bill has always been a disaster and we nearly changed venues this year. This year for our party of fifteen, the waiter, Chet, volunteered to separate the bills and it was a breath of fresh air. That saved us a lot of confusion, trying to separate the bills ourselves on cell phone calculators. Thanks Chet! We will come back now."

  • "Our first restaurant on our first night in Portland.... Great FIRST!!!! Turkey dinner and mango salmon were superb and both the onion rings and French fries were bonus impressive. (Very crispy and hot). Service was above and beyond. Very personal."

  • "We had a friend visiting from Missouri and wanted to take her somplace special. She is still talking about how delicious the food was and wants to know when we are going back. We had a large party (9) and our waitress was so efficient and welcomed everyone at the table."

  • "The wife and I were visiting Portland for the first time and wanted to try someplace unique (to us at least). We were seated and then waited 27 minutes until we were greeted by the server. It is not his fault, as he had to serve at least 20 people by himself. However, that wait is unacceptable and something should be done to rectify a situation where one server is responsible for half the restaurant."

  • "We went there for our anniversary. We made reservations and when we arrived we were seated right away. everyone was super friendly until our server came. he was the most rude server i have ever had. he rushed us and acted like we were waisting his time. i loved the resturant but am not sure i will go back. customer service is very important as i was a server for years i would never treat someone as bad as i was treated. On a good note the food was fantastic!!"

  • "This restaurant was perfect for a night out with old friends. Noise level was not so loud that we could not hold a conversation. Attentiveness of the wait staff was perfect. They truly wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The prices on the menu were fair for what was offered. The flat iron steak was absolutely amazing!! Would definetly choose this place again."

  • "We've been here a few times over the years and it seems the place is in decline. The turkey was good but not memorable. The restaurant is old as is the building and it is showing it's age. We were seated in the room adjacent to the street. The chairs are old and uncomfortable and the table tops could be refinished. The service was average. This was Father's Day and there was only one server in the room and she was doing her best to keep up. It will be a long while before I give Huber's another chance."

  • "We chose Huber's originally because of location, but it was fun to experience the restaurant's history and enjoy the environment. The restaurant was packed and vibrant. Although it is the oldest restaurant in Portland, they have maintained it well and the food was excellent. The Spanish coffee and how they make it in front of you is fun. All three of us enjoyed our meals, mine especially which was a Salmon special with a mango salsa, was terrific. We all enjoyed it and would recommend it to others."

  • "The history of Hubers is interesting however the turkey was not notable and the cioppino was obviously not one of their best. The sauce was bottled and the waiter didn't bring a bowl for the shells. We won't return."

  • "I took my friend to Hubers for her 84th birthday. The food is always good. She said her scotch old fashioned was perfectly made! Enjoyed the evening as usual."

  • "Our hostess, Chelsey, placed us ( reservation ) at a small table in a dark corner where the table light was burnned out, and the table was rocky, with only three legs touching the floor at once. Once we requested a different table, that hostess turned rude. Although the restaurant was noty busy or full, it took a long time to be waited on. I ordered a salad with my dinner but it didn't come out until I was half done with my entree. Otherwise the food was great. They did not charge me for the late salad. This is a great little restraunt with rich history and this visit was out of the norm for them."

  • "As a native Portlander, Hubers has always held a special place in my heart-and my stomach. The building that Hubers is in has a rich history having survived floods during the last century. Huge stained glass ceiling, arches behind the old time bar. Famous Spanish Coffee. But most all, delicious turkey dinners year around. That's why I took my daughter there because it's one of her favorite places. We went during the lunch hour and surprisingly it wasn't busy, so we had a nice, quiet time together. I bought an extra turkey dinner to go for my partner and she loved it. If you've never been to Hubers you really need to go. Plus, it appeared in an episode of Grimm!"

  • "The food was excellent, but we found out after dinner that the cafe had a special going on that would have saved some money, but no one told us about it. Other than that, the actual experience was very good."

  • "Our waiter, Carl, was great. The food was wonderful...our table of eight had nothing but compliments for their individual meals. I had the Beef Stroganoff & it was excellent. The bread served with the meal (I think it was beer bread) was extremely tasty, but I wish it had come to us warm. It was at room temperature & I think that's how they always serve it. A bread warmer in the kitchen would be a good investment for this restaurant. "

  • "My sister was in town and we wanted to take her somewhere fun and yet special. Huber's with their beautiful setting in the bar came to mind. Food is always good and the show associated with the making of Spanish coffee made this a perfect place for her visit. We all enjoyed our evening very much."

  • "Huber's is a well-known, historic restaurant in Portland. Our overall impression was that it really hasn't changed for a long time, which probably makes old-time Portlanders happy, but it doesn't come close to matching many of the restaurants that have cropped up in the last 15 years. The food was very heavy, and the service was decent. I'm glad I went, just to experience it, but I have no plans in going again."

  • "Over 150 yr old business, great place to see what business was in 1900s. The history is interesting and the ambience was rich. The current owner is on hand overseeing operation and checking on customers. Felt welcomed and at home. Be sure to try the Spanish Coffee with desert."

  • "We were seated in the back room, which has beautiful original stained-glass skylight windows. The yellow-green color of the windows gives an initial impression that the rooms is strangely lit, but we soon got used to it. Although the woodwork and other features are a bit worn, we appreciated the history of this old space. Though the room was busy with other Mother's Day brunchers, a booth provided plenty of privacy. The food (special brunch and regular lunch menu) was reasonably priced and while not overly amazing, was tasty and generally well-presented. Our server was pleasant and attentive, if a bit abrupt. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the historical ambiance, including original furnishings and fixtures, and many old pictures."
