Diner Reviews
  • "I recently went to Hubbard Inn for a dinner experience with a bachelorette party and then followed it up with brunch the next day. Both were excellent and the service was on par. I highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates and eggs benedict. The drinks were also very good and recommend the Moscow Mule."

  • "I love Hubbard Inn. The food is excellent with lots of smaller plates to share amongst a group. The flat bread pizzas, the lamb meatballs, bacon wrapped dates and scallops were all delicious. They have great larger plates to but we usually end up cutting them up and splitting them like the lobster rolll and the lamb burger. We go there a lot for work because they can handle larger tables but this weekend we had a birthday dinner there and it was just great. We were seated upstairs on the second floor which at first I was wary of but they had the windows open and it was a beautiful night in Chicago and it was like eating outside but away from all the street noise. Food and service were both excellent. I will be back."

  • "This is the second time I've been to Hubbard Inn, but the first time I've eaten there. Our group ordered a bunch of little plates which were appetizing. I highly recommend Hubbard Inn if you're looking for dining with a lounge feel."

  • "I had a nice dinner on Monday night at the Hubbard Inn with an old friend. The setting was perfect; comfortable, warmly lit, with a good energy. We sat near the bar which I liked because it provided a little more festive atmosphere but for a dinner I sometimes find high tops difficult to get comfortable. We ordered a charcuterie board to start and selected 4 items from the small plates menu. It was the perfect amount for the 2 of us. The bacon wrapped dates were very good as well as the scallops. I would recommend it for any occasion - not overcrowded but busy enough. Good service as well."

  • "This visit was quite disappointing. We had ordered our food and about 20 mins later, the waitress, Leah, came by and told us that she had forgotten to put our food order in and had also forgotten what we had ordered. We were OK with the wait, but we also thought that the food would be made on the fly, since she had forgotten. That did not happen. It was evident that she did not communicate her oversight of our late order to the kitchen or the manager. The manger did not stop by to see how anything was or even apologize about the extreme delay with the food. Additionally, our server Leah, did not offer any refills on mimosas or sodas. Additionally, we were charged the full amount for all of our food despite the poor service."

  • "I've come to think of Hubbard Inn as a go to spot in River North to meet up with friends for drinks. Their food is spot on and I love their cocktails, especially the Moscow Mule. Just beware their prices are a little high for what you get and I've found the service somewhat lacking."

  • "We were scheduled through OpenTable for a reservation at 8:45. Upon arrival, we were told OpenTable should not have allowed a reservation at this time, and that there were six groups ahead of us. The host asked us to wait, but never fulfilled our reservation. We were forced to fend for ourselves and secure a table on our own."

  • "Spent a date night @ the Hubbard Inn for dinner and enjoyed the variety and ambiance...the small plates are fantastic for a group and were very well prepared, both content and presentation. We will be back the next time in Chicago!!"

  • "Headed here with a group of girls from work. Management was extremely accommodating with our changing group size and service was fantastic when figuring out our bills. Drinks and food came out quickly and Hubbard Inn proved to be a great spot for happy hour on a Friday night during prime hours."

  • "Went here with a group of 5 and ordered a variety of menu items including: Tuna, bacon wrapped dates, shrimp, chicken, salad, flatbread and everything was delicious and enough food to feed us all. They have tons of cocktails to choose from and the ambience was upbeat. If you want somewhere to do a late dinner and stay for the bar scene afterwards, this is the place to be. We left around 11 and it was packed and there was a line out the door. I would highly recommend!"

  • "Our server was energetic, knowledgeable, and really made our experience a perfect one. The ambiance is unique. The furniture & bar created a great setting. We ate dinner early to avoid a big crowd and had an excellent time. All of our food was excellent. Our server recommended bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer, which we never would have ordered normally, and they were outstanding!"

  • "Had brunch at Hubbard Inn or Saturday. I had a guilt city voucher and I had read it wrong. The waitress was very nice and asked if i could get the flatbread instead of the brunch items. They brought out the flatbread and we had a very nice brunch. Bloody Marys were very good and reasonably priced! (would liked to have them rimed with old bay or something spicy though)"

  • "The food quality has significantly deteriorated at Hubbard Inn. We tried a bunch of small plates - flavorless meatballs, an extremely tough short rib, mediocre scallops and unremarkable ahi tartare . Despite warning the server (and the server warning the kitchen) that one of the guests had a severe nut allergy, the scallops came covered in nuts. I like Hubbard Inn's late night bar scene but this will be my last time eating there."

  • "Arrived on time and we were seated immediately. We were a party of four and wanted a table where it would not be noisy but they did't have one. Knowing this, they said the only table was right next to the bar. This was our biggest mistake since there was a party of six that throughout our our dinner get louder and louder with each round of drinks. Outside of that, the atmosphere was pleasant, definitely for a younger crowd. Food was very good with the exception that our steaks came out luke warm and we didn't want to wait to send them back. Overall I would give it a 3.5 but there are many other places that would beat this."

  • "love the scene and the shareable small plates are really great - the scallops is a must! does get loud later in the evening as it turns more bar scene than dining."

  • "I had only been to Hubbard Inn for drinks on the weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by the lunch atmosphere. It was calm and quiet and the food was really good. Perfect place for a casual business lunch with clients or co-workers."

  • "I've been to Hubbard Inn a few times, took my cousin here the other night as she hadn't been there. Everything is good here, food, drinks, service. The decor & ambience is great, you can't go wrong here!"

  • "I went there on a Friday night for girls night. We ordered a bunch of small plates. I really liked the tuna tartare and the braised ribs. The risotto unfortunately was out so we ordered the lamb meatballs which I personally did not like. The service was fine. We then went upstairs to have another drink and the atmosphere was great."

  • "Having experienced a great lunch there in late June my thought was to give it a whirl weekday evening in the fall...the service was barely existent and the food ok, the drinks seeming tasteless or watered Might give it another try in summer...might"

  • "My boyfriend and I were visiting the city. We called to make a reservation and were told they were fully booked. So I looked online and found one. I thought it was strange but we were hungry so we kept it. We were seated upon entering but we were not quickly attended to. We wanted to share a meal because neither of us are heavy eaters. We told the waitress this and she ignored us the rest of the meal. We didn't get drink refills or any service for that matter."

  • "I had told my staff about this restaurant months ago when I waited to get a table in the artistic atmosphere. The cocktails were great, the ambiance was fresh, it was cozy and fun and happening......I guess it USED to be. Fast forward to December 23rd. Sure, not a lot of people are out celebrating on a cold Sunday night, but I wasn't expecting flat screen TVs and a football game on! I could barely hear our conversation over the roar of the game. Festive and cozy -- NOT! The Hubbard Inn has lost its charm for me and I will never be back. I was totally embarrassed that I had ever suggested we go and was even more upset that we stayed and paid for this experience."

  • "The service was awful. We waited a long time for drinks and when they finally came they forgot to bring one of the drinks for a member in our party. We wanted to do a toast so we all had to wait until the missing drink arrived. Then the guests we were hosting ordered a bottle of wine with dinner and it did not come until well after our meal. I was embarressed that I brought our out of town guests to this restaurant. The food was very good but I felt poorly treated, especially for the amount if money we spent on food and drinks. Frankly as someone who hosts clients and guests often I would never bring anyone back to this restaurant. I understand sometimes things happen, but the restaurant was dead and the service was consistently poor."

  • "We had a company happy hour here. Our reservation was for 12 people. Drinks took such a long time to come that some guests went the bar to order drinks. Waitress was hard to find most of the evening. Closing out the bill at the end of the night took over 15 minutes."

  • "Our meal was absolutely delicious. We shared the bacon-wrapped dates, crispy Brussels sprouts, and risotto. The only major downside was that it was so loud we had to tell at each other from across the table all evening."

  • "We were there with a small group of 4 guys - we ran up a $500+ bill... it would have been an $800 bill except that our waitress barely ever came to service our table and had a bad attitude."

  • "From the atmosphere to the wine to the food, it was a very pleasant night out. I am going to dream about the scallops until I am able to return for more."

  • "We requested a table for a business lunch, but we were sat next to 2 large tables of 8 people each who where very rowdy. It was hard to have our conversation. Restaurant was not busy and there where several other tables the host could have sat us at."

  • "celebrated my wife's birthday in a great window seat. Warm atmosphere on a cold damp Chicago night. We had a combination of large and small plates, the short rib and lamb meatballs were exceptional. Great craft beers on tap, pretty good wine list and great service. A really enjoyable night"

  • "Came here for Halloween's Fall Harvest menu. The first observation we made was the interior - Hubbard Inn is a beautiful space that truly takes you back in time (especially with Hemingway greeting you on your way in). Love the tile on the walls and lighting fixtures. From the menu we chose the pear/goat blue cheese salad (generous portion of cheese and whole poached pear!), scallops (perfectly cooked in a delicious sauce and great size portion), and pumpkin creme brulee (half warm, half cold). We also ordered the grilled octopus salad off the regular menu and highly highly highly recommend it. In a very unique preparation, the octopus is cut up into pieces and served at room temperature with a delicious vinaigrette and bursting tomatoes."
