Diner Reviews
  • "Was there with my Husband and Father for Thanksgiving Dinner. We had reservations but was told it would be another hour and that they were still seating the 3:30 reservations. The layout of the buffet was horrible as we were crossing the hall while dodging people coming in or waiting for their table. Hostess called our name and just pointed to our table that was not even set up. Had to ask a couple of time for our champagne. Will not go back even though this was an annual event for our family."

  • "We went to brunch for my birthday. The food was better than any other buffet I have been to and the view is amazing."

  • "Enjoyed being with co-workers in a great location. Great service and great view."

  • "Good Sunday brunch as long as you don't mind a long walk to the buffet table."

  • "Amazing view!! The food was good, but not as good as other brunches I have been to."

  • "I chose this restaurant due to reviews. The view was spectacular and everything else was really disappointing. When our party arrived to the restaurant, we were asked to wait 20 minutes in the bar because a large party had just arrived. We had an infant so our reservation was strategic due to feedings and sleep. We waited in the bar area and all the chairs were threadbare - quite surprising. I stated in the reservation and when we arrived that we were celebrating 2 birthdays. At no time were the birthday girls treated special - at all! All of our steaks were overcooked and for some reason our server was a manager - which he kept stating over and over - and he was horrible. No candles for the dessert- just a lousy expensive evening"

  • "Place looked more run down than I remember. Food was okay, nothing to write home about."

  • "This restaurant is stuck in a time warp, everything about it screamed 1970s, the food, the ambiance, the decor. The staff was attentive and friendly and the noise level is very loud. We had the Sunday champagne brunch and thought it was over priced."

  • "Brunch here is a very special Sunday treat. The view of The City and the San Francisco Bay is spectacular and it's fun to watch the windsurfers. The variety of food is impressive and the the quality consistently high. Service is outstanding and very friendly. Your champagne glass never sits empty for more than a moment or two! Recently windows in the dining room have been replaced, making the room much more comfortable. Tip: If you go early, there is a $5 discount. (Check with the restaurant for details.) We have been enjoying Sunday brunch at Hs Lordships for many years and think it continues to improve."

  • "First time there. Food was tasty, view was beautiful, and would definitely go again."

  • "They have a wide variety of food for brunch. I sure hope the remodel is finished soon."

  • "We were there at 5 for an early dinner. This entitled us to their sunset menu for $19 which included 3 courses. However, the prime rib was tough. Their Clam chowder was tasty as well as the cheese cake. Also ordered was the Seafood Medley and the fish of the day. Seahfood Medly so-so, Fish of the day very good. Other than the dessert that came with the early bird dinner, we were not offered a dessert or a dessert menu. I don't even know if they have one. The view on the other hand is fantastic."

  • "Tired! The restaurant interior is old and worn. The food was "okay", wine selection was weak - not a positive experience. Great view!!"

  • "We have been there several times and have always enjoyed the visit. Excellent variety of food. Celebrated my 70th BD there six years ago with family and friends. Hope to celebrate there every year and looking forward to a group celebration for my 80th. The staff is very friendly and courteous. We highly recommend to our friends."

  • "Great view of the Berkeley Marina/Bay! Loved the variety of breakfast and lunch items, including crab legs, sushi, fajitas, meat carving station, omelette station, and even a chocolate fondue fountain!! Be back soon!"

  • "One of the best Brunches I have had in many years. very large selection of foods. Great setting right on the Bay and spectacular views from almost any seat."

  • "Disappointing. The building is showing its age and needs a major update, inside and out. No hostess when we first arrived. Only three tables at 8:00 pm, yet we still had delays between courses. The French onion soup was great, but the clam chowder was unremarkable - it seemed like it came from a can. I think the waiter served my steak to another table, and they had to recook. The prime rib was fatty and undercooked. I don't think they have much of a future. Maybe they make it up on banquets and Sunday brunch."

  • "It was a success! The waiters are very helpful, they're great! I appreciate that some of the staff took time to turn on the fireplace and took our pictures after dining- we celebrated our 3rd year wedding anniversary here"

  • "I had eaten here before during a retirement party that drew at least 200 guests; and I was impressed then with the view, the food, and the service. So when a friend from out of state expressed a desire to eat where we could look out on the bay, I thought this would be a good choice. I made a reservation online for 7:30 on a Thursday night, but need not have bothered as they were only two or three other groups of diners when we arrived. Unfortunately, the bar area was being remodeled and the area of the dining room with the best views was closed; but the attentive staff did all they could to make up for that. The drinks were well mixed and reasonably priced. My friends and I enjoyed salads, pasta, chowder, calamari, and creme brûlée."

  • "We were initially sat next to a large crowded loud table (which seemed like poor planning on the hostesses part) but we were moved quickly to a quiet table as soon as we requested it. The view was spectacular though the majority of the building seemed set up for events (seemed mostly for weddings) rather than restaurant dinning. It was welcoming all the same. The side dishes were lacking in flavor: mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes with garlic flavor mixed in. Salad dressing was a bit to watered down. Considering the price per plate- I was expecting a bit more. The filet I had was to be honest the best I'd ever eaten. The wife had prime rib, which wasn't quite as amazing. Desert menu was lacking for special dietary needs"

  • "The view of the water was great. The service was excellent and the food was very good. The only reason I'd say ambiance was only a three is because they are in the middle of renovations now, but I would expect it to improve upon completion."

  • "Sunset dinner specials before 6pm include 3 courses and are quite a deal. Even without the sunset specials the food is reasonably priced given the scenic location. Loved the pesto served with the bread and butter. The clam chowder had large pieces of clam and was very good. The sunset special prime rib a good size, but had they had rare portions I would have been in heaven. Med rare is the best they could do on this night. Side dishes of garlic mashed potatoes and misc. veggies were excellent. The Filet was tender and the prawns were fantastic. Pasta primavera with chicken was a good sized portion and my pasta lover finished nearly all of it. The service was attentive."

  • "There have been several different ocassions that I have eaten at HsLordship's. Each time my experience has been very favorable. My favorite meals are the weekend brunches. As you dine on the delicious food, you are surrounded with a beautiful view of the East Bay..It is indeed a relaxing and an enjoyable experience. Barbara Y."

  • "This was my first time dining on a Saturday for brunch. I went there to celebrate my 4th year wedding anniversary. I was seated in the far end of the restaurant and had a great view of the waterfront and both San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridges. You must try the omelettes, they are very tasty. Although I had to wait 5 minutes for them to refill the red snapper and the rice, it was worth the wait. There wasn't much of a choice for the breakfast portion. They served french toast, sausage, and eggs and omelettes. I had hoped for some fried potatoes with bell peppers and onions, and pancakes too. Also, I had wished that they would include diced chicken or turkey as a meat item instead of just the ham and shrimp as the only options."

  • "My wife and I came at the end of a long day of sightseeing (and eating) for our 10 year wedding anniversary, so one of us ordered the soup, the other a salad, and we split a fillet. We expected 'forks across the table' from one plate. The waiter didn't blink an eye; when the fillet arrived; It was neatly divided between two plates and arranged esthetically. Wonderful service. There was nothing innovative about the menu. Its solid food at a solid price, cooked perfectly. We came for supper, but the Lunch and Supper menu are the same. You can have a wonderful relaxing dinner on a budget ($10 burger or $12 Fish&Chips) or splurge on Steak&Lobster, all on the same menu. :) The view was spectacular, even if the venue was a little run down."

  • "The best Sunday brunch in the San Francisco Bay Area at the most reasonable price."

  • "Although the service could have been better (the menu didn't say how big 2 of the 3 steaks were, and our waiter had to go ask the cook) the food was good. Portion sizes were above average and selection range was reasonable. The menu was not overwhelmingly original, but did contain a solid presentation of classic dishes. The ambiance inside the restaurant is OK but not great, although the large facility does make it easier to get window tables, which is significant since the restaurant sits on the water and window tables have a great view of the bay."

  • "Chairs were ripped and in poor shape. Food was bland. Place has gear potential but just feels outdated."

  • "Setting is nice, decor very outdated and shabby. Food was just OK. Service however was very attentive, almost like they were thrilled to see a new customer!"

  • "We made early dinner reservation and request for window table to view the water. Three sides of the restaurant have bay view. We were the first to be seated and were given the southwest corner window with a great view of San Fran and the Bay and also romantic for myself and my gal. The service we experienced was great. Everyone was friendly, the manager came by several times to ensure our meal was meeting our expectations. A lady at a nearby table made a request for a crab cocktail not on the menu and her request was accomodated. To me, that is a sign of great service. As far as the food, we felt it was delicious, well prepared, and unpretentious. I felt as though the staff really cared. I would recommend!!!"

  • "The view was awesome but the food was not stellar. The price of the buffet is expensive for the quality and taste of the food that you get. Our waiter was friendly but seemed too busy to flag down. Except for the view, I would rate it as disappointing."

  • "The food was incredibly good. Loved the honey mustard salad dressing, probably the best I have ever had. Came to HS Lordships as a child and young adult when I lived in the Bay Area, so wanted to try it again. All is great with the restaurant but it does need some updating of the furniture, worn chairs at the table and a bit musty smell. The food, service, and view all made it worth it. We will come back. Want to try the Sunday brunch again as it was my mom's favorite place. The prime rib was great and the cheescake with raspberry sauce was outstanding. Keep it going!"

  • "Waiter interrupted my daughter who was opening birthday gifts to push some kind of membership card on her. Talked about the program for at least 4 minutes. He had to be called numerous times for coffee refills."

  • "Sunday brunch is not good as it used to be anymore. At $35 per plate, the seafoods are limited - no oysters, snow crab legs nor any baked fish. That is not reasonable at all. With the cost, Cliff House in San Francisco offers a better selection and a very good view also. Furthermore, I could eat a lot of seafood with a lot less money at Hokkaido's buffet in San Mateo also. Hs Lordship's manager and management needs to pull together and analyze the situation or lose over 30 decades of customers like myself and my family. You also need to improve the ambiance of your place', it's too outdated! Thank you."
