On the contrary, steaks were overcooked (for me) or undercooked (for him) The sides are horrible - awful! Service was unattentive and distracted. I ordered a French wine and was served a Californian without notice of French one being discontinued! . It was waaay too bright in the dining lounge and ambience was just mot there. Will spend my $200 elsewhere. Will actively recommend friends and family against this restaurant. Will not be surprised if it doesn't survive 2014."

  • "I ordered the steak and frites and asked for my steak to be medium well. This steak dish came with fries and vegetables. The fries were ok but the veggies and steak were awful. The veggies were greasy and tasted like stale oil. Eating the steak was like chewing rubber. The steak was completely tasteless and hard. The waitress did not offer fresh pepper or steak sauce both of which were badly needed."

  • "Went to Houston's once for lunch and once for dinner. The food - for lack of a better word - sucked. We had the calamari and fish tacos. There are tons of other restaurants in the financial district that serve much better food, in a similar price range. For a couple bucks more, you can go to Canoe. Also, based on purely taste and quality of the food, you're much better off going to Irish embassy across the street or ANYWHERE else. How can you deep fry calamari and make it taste bland and mediocre? I don't know, but Houston has found a way. Would not recommend."

  • "I took my wife out for a birthday dinner. It was our first time since the renovations, and we were really impressed with what they did with the place. Great ambiance, service was first rate and the food was excellent. Only recommendation is to broaden the "non-steak" menu items, as I am the steak lover, and my wife would have liked a chicken breast dinner. Overall a wonderful night out!"

  • "I expected a restaurant like Houstons in the states. Instead, I got a essentially a bar with noisy dj music. The food was surprisingly good given the scene but I would not return. Not for a relaxed dinner conducive to conversation. You have to shout over the dj's thumping music."

  • "The blonde hostess on valentines day was AMAZING. she was welcoming, accommodating and polite. Even though she was having the busiest night and others were giving her a hard time, she catered to my group's special request and did not show her stress at all. She is a perfect example of what the hospitality industry needs. The dj was playing great music, the server was extremely polite and professional and the food was outstanding. all in all my group had an amazing valentines day dinner and experience at houston."

  • "The normally hip steak house has transformed itself suddenly. Instead of a great vibe or energy level, they have brought in a DJ and plenty of rowdy drinkers and too loud to even converse. I am ok with a good club scene but at 6:00 pm on a thursday evening?? likely would be better to set this off after 9:00 and not ruin peoples dinner. Not being an old cranky customer, simply, Houstons have forgotten what got them to be successful. Jazz it up a bit but don't forget about the dining experience. If the same atmosphere exists going forward, I likely won"t be back. I took three clients and was embarrassed the entire night. Should have just left."

  • "I recently went to Houston for the last night of Winterlicious 2014. I had made a reservation for 7:30 and we were not seated until 8:10. I appreciated that they were quite busy but 40 minutes was a long wait time for somone who had pre reserved a table. The energy in the restaurant was great - good music was playing and there were lots of people there! I very much enjoyed my meal - the macaroni and cheese was delicious, my dinner pasta was pretty good and the dulce de leche cheesecake was DIVINE! The food took a while to come out but they were quite busy and our waitress was very apologetic which was nice. Other than the long wait times, I had a great experience eating at Houston and would go back again!"

  • "Our waitress was very nice to us however she was not attentive. Our appetizers came out quickly but then we had to wait for over an hour for our main course and another 10 minutes to find staff to get us utensils to eat with. The manager came out to apologize but said he couldn't do anything about it. Then our desserts took another 30 minutes to come out and the ice cream was melted- meaning it was ready but sitting around waiting to be served. Overall, for such a nice restaurant, I would not reccomend this restaurant to anyone. Every restaurant will experience slow service at times however, the way this experience was handled by staff and management was unacceptable and rude."

  • "Service was ok. Kitchen was backed up as they were at capacity so food service was very slow. My meal was very good but my husbands prime rib was very tough and he was unable to eat it. The manager did offer us something else but we had waited so long, we just wanted to leave. They did not comp is anything on our bill. I thought they would at least comp a drink or two."

  • "Myself and four of my friends went to Huston to participate in the Winterlicious menu. While the food was very good, we did not have a consistent server and found ourselves often sitting at the empty table waiting to be taken care of. Between each course was a long awaited pause until the next and when our meal was finally done we sat at the empty table for at least 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Unfortunately I will not be going back."

  • "A group of us tried Houston on Yonge for winterlicious. We were pleasantly impressed with the selection and portion of food provided. The prime rib was delicious. Our server was nice and attentive, however she did seem very eccentric. Almost like she was on something? I don't know how to describe it, but it was like she was on fast forward. Fast talking, odd comments, and when it came time to order dessert she wouldn't provide the menu she just kept repeating the selection. However, she had a bit of an accent so I had no idea what the options were, so I just picked anything. She was a very nice girl and server, just had a bit of an odd personality I think."

  • "I have to say that after going to Houston, it was definitely a treat. Me and my wife went for Winterlicious. I had the salmon poke which was definitely delicious, followed by the full rack of ribs. Lovvvvvvvvvvved the ribs :) Finally, I capped it off with the Dulce de Lecce cheesecake .....all I can is WOW :) My wife had the Almond Mandarin salad and enjoyed that. She loved the BBQ Salmon :) . However, the flourless chocolate cake was quite rich, even for me. Definitely would go back again for the same meal :)"

  • "Went here as part of Winterlicious 2014 for lunch and had an excellent experience. The food was excellent. I would highly recommend the Houston burger and the ribs were also very nice. The service was fast and very friendly. It is a vibrant spot in the downtown Toronto financial district. Would highly recommend."

Not bad but not great. Prime Rib was crazily undercooked. Was supposed to be medium rare and it was almost blue. Got it home the next day and it looked practically raw."

  • "Food - The only issue I had was that the carrots were not fully cooked. For the time it took to make my food I would have thought everything would have been cooked. My friend had the same issue. Service- The lady that took our order was courteous, friendly and helpful. However, towards the end of our course I felt like the server was trying to rush us constantly asking us if wanted anything else after we repeatedly told her we wanted nothing politely. She proceeded to put the bill on the table while saying ''no rush'' shortly after we were done our meal. I looked around and there were numerous tables waiting to be filled - so its not like we were taking away any tables. I would recommend this place however it wouldn't be my first choice."

  • "My friends & I had Winterlicious dinner at Houston's, it was their first time there & my 3rd time. This was also the 3rd Winterlicious meal I've had this week & I can say by far, it was the best experience of all the restos so far. We were served by Stephanie and she was amazing-attentive, personable & just made us feel very well looked after. She also knew the food/drinks very well & made great recommendations. Overall, the food options were diverse for a Winterlicious menu. The food itself was really delicious. We had the ribs & prime rib at our table & it was fantastic-generous portions, tasted great. The music played by the DJ was great, added a great vibe to our meal without being obnoxiously loud. Loved it, would definitely go back."

  • "The restaurant was too loud and the service was very bad. It took over 2 hours to be served. We were 3 people and 2 of the entrees arrived and the other come over 20 minutes later! Other customers in the restaurant also had similar experience. One had to call over the manager. Could have been an off night, but there was no effort on part of management to compensate for the lack of service."

  • "I have been to Houston before and have had great food and a great time. Unfortunately, the latest experience wasn't so great. The kitchen was incredibly backed up, but we weren't warned. We had a show to get to, and had ordered well over an hour before we had to leave (and let our waitress know), but we had only just gotten an appetizer and our side salads by the time we had said we had to go. It wasn't our waitresses fault and she was apologetic, the food was just not coming. The manager saw to us as well, so I guess they did their part in at least not ignoring us. But, we had to leave and go to the show without having had any entrees. Very disappointed. I would go back for the food, but will never go back where I have an end time to make."

  • "We took some guests visiting out for dinner. With Winterlicious own, they kept the portions the samr. Service was amazing and appetizers arrived quickly. When we were done the main course the server noticed we still were enjoying our wine and said she would come by for the desert order when we were ready - fast courtious service and never rushed. The only negative was my sister in law's prime rib that was more medium than medium rare but nothing to complain about."

  • "Houston's is at Yonge St. and Front St.. That's a great location for lots of things. Coincidentally, Houston's is a great restaurant for a lot of things. We ended up having dinner from the Wnterlicious menu on a Saturday night and really enjoyed it! The prime rib and the ribs were excellent!! The salmon appetizer was good, if not a bit too cutesy. Same withe the "deconstructed" lemon meringue pie...Alcoholic beverage consumption can become quite expensive from the specialty drink menu. Service was good and it was an overall very good experience that I would recommend."
