Established in 1998, Houston Avenue Bar & Grill offers their guests an exceptional ambiance in a superior setting where the food and service are outstanding and special events memorable.
Although our specialty is steaks and ribs, the whole concept of what we do here at Houston Avenue Bar & Grill is new Texan cuisine, which is presented with a great concern for detail in quality. By using many ingredients that are native to Texas area, we offer creative dishes that blend the flavors of Mexico, France, Italy and other regions into savory meals. This results in authentic tastes dishes that are both original and traditional.

One thing that I would ask is the hostess when she seats you tells you where the washrooms are located. The food was excellent and the dessert we were given for our anniversary finished the meal."

  • "This was our second time at Houston's. The place still has a great vibe to it. Unfortunately the steaks we ordered were not cooked properly. Let me start by saying I never complain but this time the steaks were bad. I ordered mine medium rare it came out chared and well done. My wife ordered medium and it also came out well. The waiter did come by to ask how the meal was and we told him about the steaks. He said the steaks look well done because of the lighting in the restaurant. It wasn't the lighting. I had to put sauce on my steak to eat it because it was so dry. Needless to say I didn't finish my steak. Thank you"

  • "Their cuts of beef are very high quality and delicious. All of there meat seems to be very well prepared but the sides and desserts fail to match up. Frozen unseasoned french fries and still frozen cake cheapened the overall quality of my meal. Service could have been better too, but it was extremely busy."

  • "The atmosphere was awesome, the restaurant was very relaxed. Our server was good. However I was disappointed with the steak. I was expecting the Keg type quality, and it wasn't there. The steak extremely thin for a NY strip, almost like pan steak thin. The steak came out very well done which is far from what was ordered. The manager came out and corrected the situation immediately and was very apologetic. We were quite happy upon speaking to the manager and server. We really enjoyed the restaurant, and we would go back again. I have to add that all other parts of our food were excellent!"

  • "We went to this location for Valentines Day. We arrived for our reservations, and were seated promptly. The evening went downhill from there. It took about 45minutes before our food came, the appetizer, calamari, was good, but both of us had steak. Neither steaks were hot, and the mashed potatoes I had were lumpy. My husband had the baked potato which wasn't fully cooked. When we were finally able to get the waiters attention for a refill the wrong drink was brought. We again had to get her attention to have our dessert brought and then had to wait almost 20 minutes for brownie and ice cream, which appeared to have been left sitting out as the ice cream was half melted. I won't be going back."

  • "My wife and I went to Houston's for a special Vallentines Dinner. Our waitress didn't seem too busy but we rarely saw her. In fact we had to ask for a refill of pop, even if our table was at the main stairs up to the serving area. Our food wasn't as good as it should have been give the cost! This restaurant is VERY expensive and quality that doesn't meet the cost. It will be a very long time before I go back again."

  • "The barrier free washroom door was not operational. Unless you have the use the barrier free facilities, it may not effect you, but it should be noted that washrooms are one of the main areas of a restaurant that are remembered. Only one of the automatic taps was working and there was a line up for it. The washroom itself was clean and bright, but with areas noted not functioning, it was a disappointment."

  • "We decided to try this restaurant during the Barrielicious, so that a wide sample of the menu could be experienced. While the food was good, it was not as remarkable as some of the other restaurants we have enjoyed during this event. As well, since we were looking forward to a romantic evening without our 5 children, we were a little disappointed at the noise level. My husband is deaf in one ear and the noise level made it impossible for him to hear our server at all. And while the atmosphere was very on trend, it was not the cosy experience we have come to enjoy with some of the smaller venues. Our server was quite personable and we did enjoy her service."

  • "We arrived and were shown our table promptly. Our waitress quickly introduced herself and told about the Barrielicious menu. I interrupted and asked about the group-on menu and whether we could chose from either. She apologized and said she would have to ask. The manager returned. I've forgotten her name (Friday feb 7 - 7 pm). She was fantastic, apologizing for some of the items not being available on the group-on menu. She explained how it was a much better value sticking with the group-on menu, and offered a substitution from the regular menu for the missing items. The food was delicious ! I was also surprised when I found my glass of wine was comped as well. Great food, outstanding service!"

They switched server before main course because the first one was going to be the supervisor for the rest of the night. Their service was not to compare to Terrylyn's service.   • "The ambiance was very romantic.I highly recommend the steak but definitely don't order the sauteed mushrooms too much pepper ...to the point of being inedible. The hostess forgot to inform someone that we were there causing us to wait ten minutes before being served and whomever poured the wine into the glass didn't realize the wine should be in the glass ...not all over it. Because of the lack of professionalism and questionable service i doubt I would ever venture there again but the steak was good."

  • "New Years is a busy night for diners and those who like to celebrate the new year. I appreciated that Houstons actually took a reservation unlike other steak houses that simply expect you to wait in line for them.....I also appreciated the confirmation phone call that I received the day of the reservation. The waiter we had was excellent; attentive yet not overly so. The music was a little much but our group was probably over the average age for the restaurant. The food was very delicious but if I have to say one negative thing and that is it was very expensive. I appreciate that it was New Years but it's like charging twice the price for roses on Valentines day. Felt slightly taken advantage of. Overall experience was very good."
