House of Tricks
Quiet DinningWe wanted a special dinning experience to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed cocktails at the outdoor bar before being seated inside for our reservation. The food was exquisite, all four courses (the chef's soup - salad - starters - entree!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect CelebrationThis is my favorite place to go to celebrate my birthday. Love the unique cocktails before dinner. We had the halibut and fillet and both were outstanding and the staff is friendly and professional. Will be back soon.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this restaurantHouse of Tricks never disappoints. Fresh menu, good service and the misters help you to sit outside in the oppressive AZ heat.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat venue and menuThis was our second time at House of Tricks and it was just as good the second time. The restaurant has limited indoor seating, with most of the seating outside under canopies of lit trees. The menu is original, changes frequently, and portions are more than ample. If you get there before six, sit at the outdoor bar and enjoy happy hour cocktails and appetizers. Plenty of parking is available right across the street.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary diningI've been taking my wife here every year since we started dating, for our anniversary. The patio dining is wonderful, even in summer. They also have a large fire pit to keep you warm during chilly evenings. Indoor seating looks charming and cozy, but we always opt for patio side. The food is tremendous. There are always a few options for non-meat eaters, but when we did eat meat, their entrees are decadent.
The wine list is extensive and the wait staff is more than happy to assist in picking a perfect pairing. This is our special occasion restaurant because it is just so darn beautiful, albeit a tad expensive on a middle class budget.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary RomanceDuring the weeknights the place has a unused patio area where we spent quiet moment with each other. We enjoyed the ambiance, trees, hummingbirds and soft music in the background.
The service was excellent and the food exceptional.
The creative Kale salad was amazing.
Favorite was the duck crusted with macadamia nuts --- although all was delicious.
Wine selections were perfect as well.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem for LunchWhat a fantastic place for a nice lunch, outside in the heart of the city, but you will feel like you are sitting in the country. They food was wonderful and the beautiful gardens surrounding the restaurant were wonderful. Even on a very hot summer Phoenix day the outside was shaded and cool. Great restaurant!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe setting was warm and welcoming. The setting was warm and welcoming. The food was wonderful.
Was our first time but will definitely be back!!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxingWent for our 4 yr anniversary. Sat outside. There were a lot of people but that wasn't too much of an issue and made more sense as the night when on with the wonderful service and delicous food. It was a really nice place, better than I expected. Nice feather in the cap was since it was our anniversary they gave us a complentary glass of champagne too.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy Mother's DayWe enjoyed the Prix Fix Mother's Day special. Everything was excellent and the service was great.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThere for Mother's Day. SpecialThere for Mother's Day. Special 3 course menu. Everything was delicious. May have been the best breakfast I have ever eaten. Their take on breakfast fish and chips appetizer was amazing: lox, potatoes, creamy aioli, watercress. Their take on eggs benedict was to die for: poached egg on perfectly prepared piece of steak, on bread, with a delicious sriracha/curry sauce with just the right kick to it.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of a kindYou won't find another place like this... A gem of a place right in the middle of a busy campus university ...food is delicious and the restaurant is so charming and fun.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a treatWent with a couple of office mates for lunch. Sat on the patio. It was a nice day (about 85 degrees) and the experience was fabulous. Beautiful patio with shade from overhead trees, plus they have extra umbrellas. We all had different sandwiches including the banh mi, club and grilled chicken. Each included a side. I had the banh mi and it came with a side of sesame green beans. Yum. Everyone was super satisfied and happy and talked about coming back with their spouses.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful lunch with adultDelightful lunch with adult grand daughter!! Appreciate being able to make reservations!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good. ServiceFood was very good. Service was inconsistent as the evening went on but they were very busy with prom night and a wedding. Love the outdoor area but the flys were really annoying. would still go back since the outdoor patio is great.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOutdoor Outrageous!Cool dining experience outdoors in a unique atmosphere. Food was great as well..5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome as AlwaysThe service is always friendly and quick. The food is amazing and the ambience makes you feel like you've done something right.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMlove this restaurantWe found this restaurant on Trip Advisor when coming to Tempe prior to a flight from Sky Harbor. We have been coming back at least 4 times a year just because we love the food. Whenever we are flying from Sky Harbor or in the area for any event we have dinner at House of Tricks and we are never sorry that we had dinner here.
Menu interesting with good standbys, but always something interesting to try. The cheese board is always impressive, my big splurge!!! The Kale Saled was wonderful, even though kale is the new wonder food...it tasted great with all the goodies included.
Will be back on our next trip to Tempe..5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNice EveningWe had a great night, good service and delicious food, a nice relaxing evening!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSay outside. Had a great time.Say outside. Had a great time. The service and food were all excellent. My only complaint was that when we were seated, they did not brush the leaves and such from the table. While that is a fact of sitting outside under trees, the courtesy of trying to clear the table would have been appreciated. Otherwise, this is an excellent place that I will return to when I'm back in town.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic Dining at it bestIf you are looking for a place to take your special someone and be able to actually have a quiet romantic dinner this is the place to go. The outdoor dining under beautiful trees is like dining in your backyard garden, tables are spread far enough apart that you feel like your dining alone. The food is magnificent and the wine list is the biggest I have ever seen. This is not a place to go if you are looking for your typical fare. Lamb shank, veal and duck are on the menu and paired with complimentary vegtables. Everything from the soup to the dessert is fantastic.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't Go there enoughWe have been Phoenix residents for 22 years and our first experience at the House of Tricks was about 20 years ago...the food and service were commendable then and remain so today.....I only wish we could get there more often.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was wonderful andThe food was wonderful and I would eat there everyday if I could. The duck breast was such a treat and cooked to perfection.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a beautiful day andIt was a beautiful day and lovely to sit on the patio. Highly recommend!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOasis Near ASUHouse of Tricks is an oasis in Tempe. It is a lovely spot for lunch in the midst of a hectic day, and convenient to walk from the ASU campus. The service is friendly and spirited, and the bread pudding is outrageous!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThey have some interestingThey have some interesting food combinations that I haven't tasted elsewhere. Huge patio for dining if you like to be outside. Only drawback, a tree in bloom garnished all our food with its little blossoms.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food & beautiful patioHad yet another fantastic lunch at House of Tricks this weekend. I have not been there for dinner, but their lunch is amazing. Try the chicken tinga taco salad or the beef salad... you will not be disappointed! They also have amazing artichoke dip. Delicious! The patio area is very charming and service is always top-notch as well. Thanks House of Tricks for another great meal and service!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFollow the yellow brick road..southFollow the yellow brick road..south on N. Scottsdale to S. Rural street, turn right. Near all the cool ASU campus energy---will definitely return when in Phoenix area. Loved "that green thing" drink.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHouse of Tricks is a beautifulHouse of Tricks is a beautiful restaurant with a creative Chef. On my most recent visit, I was not that crazy about my entree. I ordered the Lamb Shank with Swiss Chard and Potatoes. These are all foods I love. The problem was, the Lamb gravy covered everything to the point where I could not taste the Swiss Chard or the potatoes. Everything just tasted like gravy. The others at my table all loved their entrees: Chicken and dumplings, Ahi tuna, and salmon.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAll treat, no tricksWe were a group of five, and each of us ordered a different lunch. Every one was superb. Lovely garden seating, great service, the whole package. The food is always fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is cozy.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHouse of Tricks is the completeHouse of Tricks is the complete package--food, service, wine, and ambiance. We have eaten at Michelin 3-stars all over Europe, and we find that House of Tricks is just as wonderful in its own American category. To have dinner with someone special on the patio, or lunch with your BGF, or a drink after work--instant peace. The night we dined there, a windstorm had closed the patio, but the restaurant was coping beautifully.
You cannot get a bad meal at House of Tricks. We have been there many times; it's the first place we take out of town visitors, which is no mean feat given the restaurant scene in Scottsdale. It's where we go for special occasions, or when we're feeling tired and down. I cannot recommend it highly enough.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolute gemThe ambiance at Tricks is outstanding! Tahnani, our waitress was very nice...attentive but not disruptive. My gnocchi was very good and nicely presented, my husband had the chicken and dumplings and said both the chicken and dumplings were dry and not much sauce on them. Overall, a very enjoyable evening and we will definitely go back!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMwaiter was a little "roughwaiter was a little "rough around the edges" but he had a great sense of humour and follow through. This place is a true gem.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHouse of Tricks was our pickHouse of Tricks was our pick for the last meal of our week's vacation in Arizona and we had never eaten there before. What a pleasant experience! We were promptly seated for our 7:30 pm reservation in the outdoor patio area, surrounded by trees and enough lighting to read the menu easily. The food was exceptional--very flavorful with attention to ingredients and presentation. Waitstaff was attentive but left us plenty of time to enjoy each part of the meal. We loved the courtyard area which had adequate spacing between tables. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would love to go there again.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood GemHouse of Tricks, hidden in the campus area of ASU is a gem. We celebrated our Anniversary dinner there and it was fantastic. We had outdoor seating, which was beautiful, breeze was cool so they turned on a heat lamp at our request. Michael our waiter Immediately greeted us with a "Happy Aniversary". We started off with cocktail, then moved onto appetizers then entrees, which were all excellent. We ended our meal with a Coffee Creme Brulee that they put a candle in and also gave us a complementary 2 glasses of champagne. This restaurant caters to all with an occasion to celebrate. I noticed a lot of couples, family, friends get togethers, not many children. I would definitely recommend and revisit again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter, Chris was great. Our waiter, Chris was great. He knew the menu and wine list and made wonderful recommendations.
