Sat on the patio. It was a nice day (about 85 degrees) and the experience was fabulous. Beautiful patio with shade from overhead trees, plus they have extra umbrellas. We all had different sandwiches including the banh mi, club and grilled chicken. Each included a side. I had the banh mi and it came with a side of sesame green beans. Yum. We have been coming back at least 4 times a year just because we love the food. Whenever we are flying from Sky Harbor or in the area for any event we have dinner at House of Tricks and we are never sorry that we had dinner here.
Menu interesting with good standbys, but always something interesting to try. The cheese board is always impressive, my big splurge!!! The Kale Saled was wonderful, even though kale is the new wonder food...it tasted great with all the goodies included.

While that is a fact of sitting outside under trees, the courtesy of trying to clear the table would have been appreciated. The outdoor dining under beautiful trees is like dining in your backyard garden,tables are spread far enough apart that you feel like your dining alone. The food is magnificent and the wine list is the biggest I have ever seen. This is not a place to go if you are looking for your typical fare. Lamb shank, veal and duck are on the menu and paired with complimentary vegtables. On my most recent visit, I was not that crazy about my entree. I ordered the Lamb Shank with Swiss Chard and Potatoes. These are all foods I love. The problem was, the Lamb gravy covered everything to the point where I could not taste the Swiss Chard or the potatoes. Everything just tasted like gravy. We have eaten at Michelin 3-stars all over Europe, and we find that House of Tricks is just as wonderful in its own American category. To have dinner with someone special on the patio, or lunch with your BGF, or a drink after work--instant peace. The night we dined there, a windstorm had closed the patio, but the restaurant was coping beautifully.
You cannot get a bad meal at House of Tricks. We have been there many times; it's the first place we take out of town visitors, which is no mean feat given the restaurant scene in Scottsdale. Tahnani, our waitress was very nice...attentive but not disruptive. My gnocchi was very good and nicely presented, my husband had the chicken and dumplings and said both the chicken and dumplings were dry and not much sauce on them. What a pleasant experience! We were promptly seated for our 7:30 pm reservation in the outdoor patio area, surrounded by trees and enough lighting to read the menu easily. The food was exceptional--very flavorful with attention to ingredients and presentation. Waitstaff was attentive but left us plenty of time to enjoy each part of the meal. We loved the courtyard area which had adequate spacing between tables. We celebrated our Anniversary dinner there and it was fantastic. We had outdoor seating, which was beautiful, breeze was cool so they turned on a heat lamp at our request. Michael our waiter Immediately greeted us with a "Happy Aniversary". We started off with cocktail, then moved onto appetizers then entrees, which were all excellent. We ended our meal with a Coffee Creme Brulee that they put a candle in and also gave us a complementary 2 glasses of champagne.This restaurant caters to all with an occasion to celebrate. I noticed a lot of couples, family, friends get togethers, not many children.
