House of Prime Rib
From the salad to the dessertFrom the salad to the dessert (we chose English trifle from a nice selection), everything was excellently prepared. Service was friendly and efficient.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA True San Francisco TreatWe feel so fortunate to have such a gem so close to home. We would come here at least once-a-year and celebrate Easter; our traditions have changed and we do not come as often. We choose to come here to celebrate Father's Day this year! What a wonderful treat!!
It is a bit pricey, but definitely worth a special occasion dinner! We plan on returning this year for my daughter's 17th birthday!! The only knocks we have are that it is quite loud and you usually have to wait a bit for your table (even with a reservation), but the food and service make it all worth while.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Prime RibThe prime rib was excellent.!!!! The menu is very limited but I guess if you are going to the House of Prime Rib that is what you are going to get.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMthe best of the bestohhhhhhhhhhh all was so good,,, drinks & prime rib!!!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthdayCome here every year for birthday dinner and never disappointed! Don't expect to have a quiet conversation.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPrime rib was excellent. WePrime rib was excellent. We had the English cut and King Henry cut. The only downside was heavy on the salad dressing but some people like it that way.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA SF institutionGive this legendary spot a try and get to share an experience that many San Francisco residents have. From the salad spinning to the bowl of mints, this place is a tightly run ship.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service alongOutstanding service along with great food. A real dining experience. A relaxed 2 1/2 hour meal. Outstanding.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful service and greatWonderful service and great food. I'm not a salad eater, but I dream of the salad daily!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome steakhouse. One of the best if not the best steakhouse I have eaten at. Better than Ruth Chris and definitely better than Peter Luger's. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant was as advertised.Restaurant was as advertised. The menu is simplistic prime rib and one choice of fish. Food comes at a good pace so if you want extend your time eat slowly. The wait does not rush you but your stay can be short if eat fast6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe House Makes You Feel At HomeHad a great experience at the house of Prime Rib. The ambience, food, and service is exceptional!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBest prime rib around! We make a point to eat here whenever we are in SF. Delicious and a family tradition!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded ExpectationsMy husband and I made reservations to eat here months in advance.
I heard about this place through Anthony Bordain's No Reservations program and since we were planning a trip to SF, decided to try this restaurant out and was not disappointed.
We come from Alberta Canada, which is cattle country and we're known for our excellent beef, however this restaurant exceeded my expectations!.
The food was fantastic, with huge portions and very tasty. The service was excellent too.
All in all the experience was second to none and I know I will not find food like that here, even back in cattle country!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat for a special occasionfantastic food all the way around including the bread!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHouse of Prime RibNothing more to say about this place which is still excellent after all these years. Go there with a hearty
appitite.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSan Francisco ClassicThe food is simple but good. There are not a lot of choices -- what cut of prime rib would you like, mashed or 2-pound baked, creamed spinach or corn? Dinner is served with a chop salad tossed at your table with a wonderful vinaigrette, Yorkshire pudding and a round loaf of crusty sourdough. I had a glass of the Malbec, which was excellent. We went on a Tuesday night at 9:00 and it was very crowded, almost a little too crowded. There were a number of large parties, including one next to our table which made it impossible for the cart with the prime rib (which is supposedly carved at your table) to get close to our table so we had to stare from afar. It was also very noisy. Finally, dinner cried out for a good craft beer.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for lovers of prime ribRestaurant was recommended to us, and it definitely warrants a return visit. You will definitely leave completely satisfied and full! Service is great, and fast. Restaurant filled up quickly, so reservations are a must. Highly recommend this restaurant.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMComing from Spain to SF onceComing from Spain to SF once a year for business purposes, HoPR has become a must. Besides the fact that the PR is awesome, the rest of the experience -even the high level of "positive" noise- makes me to come back year after year.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal in San FranciscoThis was the best food we got while in San Francisco. Prime rib is pretty much all they do, but they do it to perfection. Everything I got to eat was great. I couldn't imagine it any better. The service was great, too. Attentive but not intrusive. It was loud, though. Much louder than I expected at a high-end restaurant. There were several large groups, and they were obviously celebrating. We also had a 6:30 reservation and didn't get seated until 7:00. We were made comfortable while we waited, though. All in all, it was the dining highlight of our stay in San Francisco.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOMG...!!!My fiancé and I went to House of Prime Rib on the last night of our holiday to SF to celebrate his 30th birthday - we had an amazing time!! Our server Scott was fantastic and we had a great night chatting to him and the manager Heather who originally came from the same area as us in Scotland. The meal was out of this world and it was definitely the best meal we had in san Francisco!! Our night was made extra special when Scott brought out a bowl of ice-cream with a candle on it and we all started to sing happy birthday to my fiancé. I was so glad I made this reservation for the last night of our holiday as it was the perfect way to end a perfect trip with a perfect meal. A visit to House of Prime Rib is a must!!!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMPrime Rib HeavenHave been here many times an are never disappointed. There were 6 in our party, and we all ordered prime rib. Cooked to perfection!
Will definitely return.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Prime Rib!!Excellent service and food. Affordable when you consider all of the side dishes are included in the price of the meal. Dinner choices are prime rib, prime rib and prime rib, but they do have a couple of selections for those that don't eat beef. Go hungry, you can't stop eating the salad and then the main course comes with ample serving sizes. Best prime rib we've had on our several visits. We'll be back!! Make reservations weeks ahead of time if possible. Can be difficult to get a table at times.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent prime rib dinnersExcellent prime rib dinners complete with a large salad and sides. You will leave very full and satisfied. Be sure to make reservations several weeks in advance.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA great experienceIt should go without saying, that the beef was excellent in every respect. The value of this meal including sides, not withstanding the overall experience, was very good. I very much appreciated our waiter, Jeremy, who was helpful and attentive without being overbearing. My family was treated with dignity and respect which was much appreciated .... and the food was pretty good, too!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DinnerThe restaurant is very masculine, dark woods very old school steak house. Although the dining room was filled to capacity and very noisy, the acoustics at our table of 6 made it easy for us to hear each other without raising our voices. The service was excellent and we really appreciated the fact that the owner took t.he time to stop by every table to check on the dining experience5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSF institution for a reasonBeen traveling to San Francisco for years and I can't believe it took me this long to eat here. This place is great! It doesn't really need a menu-you have a choice of small, medium or large cuts of prime rib. Meat is very tender and flavorful, cocktails are huge, sides are pretty good too. We'll return!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMPrime rib at its bestThis location is gorgeous and definitely a perfect dinner location for trips to San Francisco. If you see photos of the meat, some people may claim that it doesn't really look good, but you will change your mind from the first second when having a piece on the tongue. I simply can say that it is a soft piece of meat which has an unbelievable taste. It goes with an extremely delicious cream spinach (... and that from me as cream spinach is the only spinach I like), mash potatoes or - and that is what I would recommend - a baked Idaho potatoe with bacon, sour cream and chives. After a while they add a piece of Yorkshire pudding which is also absolutely perfect. The salad served as a starter is also absolutely delicious and not bitter at all.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticConsidering how much I love Prime Rib, I can't believe it took us this long to make it here. While we were eating I made reservations for our anniversary in November. I can't wait to come back.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic place for a celebrationWe brought our mom here for her birthday and had a wonderful time. This old fashioned establishment was warm, cozy and fairly welcoming. The host was a bit chilly, so I thought we might be in for a stuffy evening but our waiter was fantastic. He was eloquent yet funny and completed all the tableside services with grace and style.
The prime rib itself was outstanding. The sides were decent but I think very much keeping in tradition of the space. For example, the chopped salad had iceberg, which isn't the healthiest or nicest of salad options, but seemed like a traditional chophouse style salad. The waiter surprised Mom with a delicious birthday sorbet and song. They even took a photo of us-available online.
Mom couldn't stop smiling.:)5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Prime RibExcellent food at a great price. Aaron was our waiter and he was awesome.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLong Term SF RestaurantHouse of Prime Rib is a long term SF restaurant that simply has the best Prime Rib you have tasted. It is served with a large tossed salad that I have tried to duplicate, Yorkshire Pudding, creamed sinach and choice or potato and all for a reasonable price. They have a an excellent by the glass selection of wines as well as bottles. The only change to the restaurant over the years is that they now have a serious dessert menu with a terrific bread pudding and several other wonderful selections. Reservations are a must; the place is always full.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved itThis was my second time dinning at HOPR and it was wonderful yet again. The staff was great and held our table even though two people were stuck in traffic. The cocktails are delicious but nothing tops the food. My dad said it was the best prime rib he has ever had and loved it for his birthday.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding - this was anOutstanding - this was an awesome place and service was the best. Loved this place.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, price and serviceFirst time here with the hubby. Prime rib isn't our first choice but this place was so recommended by friends and family that we had to try. I don't know if because it was our first time that a little show was put on but I liked it. Watch out Lawry's!!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMJust my opinionNice, friendly atmosphere. The service is great. Everyone is friendly, from host to servers. The food is great, well rounded meals. You get your meat, vegetables, a delicious salad and either a fully loaded baked potato or a mashed potato. You also have your choice of a great desert. Their prices are not bad, considering how much food you get. Our waiter was fantastic. He had a great sense of humor and he made our dinning an even more pleasant experience. I have dined here a few times and each time it has been a pleasant experience. I would recommend the House of Prime Rib to anyone. Even the location is great, easy to get to and they have valet parking for less than it would be to park in any parking garage.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Dinner for MotherTook my wife's mother on vacation and chose this restaurant to have dinner.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHouse of Prime Rib is a Classic!Denver use to have a similar restaurant located at 17th & Lincoln Streets. It was call The Piccadilly. Denver lost this excellent restaurant and I am surprised another one of its kind hasn't sprung up! House of Prime Rib is a classic - Buon cibo, buon vino, & buoni amici (Good food, good wine, & good friends!). Do yourself a favor and put it at the top of the list when you visit San Francisco.
Outstanding!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite SpotThis has been our anniversary spot for years now! Love everything about this restaurant! Totally cool as a romantic atmosphere and kid friendly too!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPrime spot for Prime Rib!Come hungry and be prepared to take a "doggie bag" home with you.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food but very noisyI love HOPR. The food is always delicious and super filling. The restaurant is always very accommodating. The night we went there was a huge party next to us so that made it a little crowded since all foot traffic to the tables on our other side was through a tiny gap next to our table. It was super distracting but it is what it is, HOPR is crowded and popular for a reason. Next time I'll try to save room for dessert, there were so many to choose from and they all sounded good!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA Royal Feast!Come hungry and you will not be disappointed? This place is for carnivores with royal appetites. Excellent service team and friendly support staff. This is a well-oiled machine with exemplary meat! I would have liked to take my seconds home (a bit ambitious on my part but why be wasteful?). Definitely a great night!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food good price historicIf you love prime rib there is no other place better
The owner still hangs around and will walk up to your table to greet you and ask you how your experience is
I've been coming here for 25 years for my wedding anniversary and will continue to come here for many more
The bar makes Grate drinks and the wait staff is friendly and quick and love to put on a show with the salad mixing
I recommend this place to all for a great prime rib dinner5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHOPR ROCKS!!This was my second birthday dinner, and I was glad I could share this experience with my buddy, Lewis! There is a reason this place is an institution, and I will return again!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat family placeWe took our family here for a 89th birthday. Our reservations were for 5:30 and we got our table at 5:15. What a surprise for such a busy place to get us in early. My mother has not been here for many years and enjoyed it immensely so did my grand kids. The staff was very pleasant and even spent time to talk to the kids as busy as they were. In total we had a wonderful dinner.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMClassy ThrowbackThis was the first time we ever ate at House of Prime Rib and we enjoyed every second. The prime rib was so tender, I could have sliced it with a butter knife. The decor was classy and comfortable. A great place to go for special occasions.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and service but long waitThe food is very good and the waiter was knowledgeble and friendly My only peeve with this place is in spite of reservations ( good 3 week in advance and confirmed on phone as well), it took 20 to 25 minutes for them to seat us and we were only 3 people and arrived on time and this happened twice! The place is quite popular so there is hardly any standing room, they keep telling you that the table will be ready in a moment but waiting for 25 minutes with advance reservations twice can turn you off. My son loves the food here so I would like to continue eating here but ....5/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
