  • "They do a few things and do them very very well. Everything was fantastic - prime rib (best I've every had), salad, creamed spinach, bread (both sourdough & corn bread and the Yorkshire pudding. My mom's salmon was good too. Kind of a nostalgic thing, but the place is fun. Too heavy and expensive for regular dining but a good value."

  • "Birthday dinner party of 6, one if our guests was going to be an hour late. They refused to seat us until all of our party were there, although we had been waiting at least two hours for seating, spent a lot on drinks while waiting, they could have seated us and enjoyed a meal and started without the latecomer, but host was brutally firm about this policy and gave us no options. We askef for smaller table and they refused. We were all very hungry and drunk on the strong cocktails, dinner finally was served 2 hours later than our reservation time, because once we passed 15 minutes after original reservation time they put us at bottom of long waiting list with all walk in guests! Very salty food, drink lots if water. Not what I expected."

  • "Once again our server Cara made our dining experience a pleasure. Even now that our family is growing, with 2 kids our family was treated with respect and courteous. Dinner was delicious, my glass of wine was beautiful. The desserts we had as a treat for our friends birthday (the reason we went out) were awesome. The warm apple crisp and the raspberry sorbet OMG to die for! Again we thank you Cara and House of Prime Rib for the food and service. Keep up the great work."

Our only problem was our hostess didn't acknowledge us standing by her. Flagged down a server and she got the ball rolling. Other than that first impression We had a good meal"

  • "At with the family at the House of Prime Rib a second time in about five years, and it was as great as the first time. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, and the service was wonderful. Cocktails from the bar were delicious. Steve attended to our every need, including the many Shirley Temples for the kids. Guests who liked well done meat (go figure) said it was perfectly prepared. It is our favorite restaurant in San Francisco."

  • "Came here with the family to celebrate my daughter's birthday. With a 6pm reservation, we got seated immediately. The prices range from $39.85 (lowest price on the menu) for the basic City Cut to $42.85 for the King Henry VIII Cut. For the King Henry VIII Cut, I did not notice much of a size difference between that and the City Cut which was disappointing, but luckily you can ask for a second slice which is pretty thin as well. So the next time we come here, I will just get the City Cut. Overall, I would not come all the way over to San Francisco, fighting the traffic and finding parking which is already tough if you don't dine 6pm or earlier. I think for the price of prime rib, there are other places just as good and less expensive."

  • "My husband's family has been going to this restaurant for 50 years, and we were able to take our small daughters for their first "fancy" restaurant experience this last week. The staff was SO attentive, and friendly, and over the top professional. I can see why they keep coming back!"

  • "Food was very good but due to overbookings, they really want you to get out asap. The waiter was so busy that while he was stirring the salad that was ready for serving, he left and someone had to take over. He got so side tracked that he gave us a dessert menu twice. We all felt so rushed that it was not as enjoyable as what we would like."

  • "If you are a Prime Rib fan, then you must eat at this place. But be forewarned. Once you eat here, all other prime rib will pale in comparison. Dry Aged and cooked to perfection, the House of Prime Rib does one thing, and that is make the best prime rib. Served with their famous cremed spinach, as well as a potato and house salad, this meal is simply divine."

For under $40 you will get a large cut of , outstanding prime rib (it's all they do!), salad, potato, bread, corn bread, and creamed spinach (the only part of the meal that was 'so-so'). Friendly, attentive service, and a great bar replete with a nice wine selection. It is like stepping back in times to the days of an excellent beef restaurant. Go there! You will have no regrets."

  • "If you want good prime rib this is the go yo place. The sides are really good too. It can get very noisy so this is not the place for a romantic dinner. Huge portions and I was amazed my daughter ate her whole meat so she could get another one. The second free piece is smaller, thank goodness. I was waiting for her to go into a meat coma. Be sure to make reservations. Parking on the street is doable."

  • "This was our third time to this restaurant. We know that it books up fast, so we try to look for our reservation about 1-1.5 months ahead of time, and have no problems. Each time we used Open Table to book the reservation. You not only get the reminder via email from Open Table, but the House of Prime Rib also calls you to confirm. The food is outstanding. It just keeps getting better. The whole table licked their plates clean, so to speak. This is a great place. The only negative I can say is that they pack the tables in tight, so the noise level gets loud real quick."

  • "We had dinner late on Fri night. It was a little noisy in front of restaurant and weird that we couldn't order drinks from the bar as it irriates the bartender according to our waiter. Our waiter was kind and may not be his fault about the drink situation however this is why he was rated a bit lower. The food was outstanding and most of the evening was very pleasant."

  • "Maybe our expectations were too high based on all the hype. Overall, the food was good. The salad preparation was entertaining. The bread was fresh and warm. My sister really liked the creamed spinach. I thought it was standard as well as the mashed potatoes. She had the huge baked potato with all the toppings and liked that as well. I had the English cut (thin slices). It is supposed to come with 4 slices but they only gave 3 (and then wait to see if you want more - I'm told). It was good but I've had just as good, if not better, before. My sister ordered the largest bone-in cut and had leftovers. She thought it was good but wasn't blown away. For the price, in SF, it's a decent meal. But be aware that it's very noisy!"

He was on his second night on the job but provided done of the best service we received in four weeks of eating across America. Thanks for a lovely finish to the trip."

  • "We went to HOPR for a retirement dinner. Our team has been there on 10+ occassions already this year - we love the food and ambience. However, on this unfortunate occassion, we had the absolute worst service. Our server would not attend to us - we had to ask the bus boy to order our wine and then food. There were 7 of us and we had cocktails, 2 bottles of wine, our meals and desert; I like to think we are good customers, and this was a very unfortunate 1-time miss on HOPR's part."

  • "There is nothing modern about this place, but that doesn't mean it's bad. In fact, if you like prime rib, it is an absolute must visit. EXCELLENT food, from the tasty salad to start to the desserts at the end, but the star is of course the meat. So tender it basically melted in my mouth. Even the kids in our group liked it! The sides are either creamed corn or creamed spinach, mashed potatoes & gravy or a loaded baked potato, and a piece of yorkshire pudding. All good. Just hilarious that such an old-school place is still so popular (crowded & very lively atmosphere) - loved it!"
